I really think that the head line should be changed cause I for one didn't get an answer to what Navalny really thought! I've read about his 15-point plan for post war Russia in where the topic of Ukraine was addressed in The Moscow Times on March 7, 2023. There you can read that Navalny thought that Ukraine should go back to having its internationally recognized borders of 1991. "There's nothing to discuss", he added. Why isn't anyone addressing this? At least mentioning it? Everywhere I look, people are so stuck in his statements from a long time ago.

Changing generals before the next phase of the war is probably going to be a good thing. The first general has done a very good job and he has probably set things up where a new guy coming in can get right down to business. Let us not forget that 24 months heading an army who are fighting for the existance of one's county is exhausting and putting someone else in charge who has fresh ideas and is not war-fatigued sounds like a good idea. We have to remember that President Zelensky has also been running the show for 24 months and the amount of death and destruction and fear and rage and all that goes with being the Commander-in-Chief is taxing to say the least. All we know is that the war rages on and the next few months are going to see things getting ramped up to levels never seen before. It is time to be solidly supporting the Ukrainain President. Since he became a politician Navalny, as any intelligent person, grew as a person and developed his views with experience. He had said many inappropriate things but he admitted his mistakes and declared his views in his manifesto last year. So, stop judging him on his old statements, he evolved since then. As to Yulia Navalnaya, cut her some slack, it has been less than 2 weeks since her husband was murdered. And during this time she had to deal with lots of problems, like helping her mother-in-law retrieve Alexey's body from his prisoners' claws. Not to mention grieving. Major reason to fire Zaluzhniy was his disagreement with USA/NATO view on war and, of course, lack of progress on frontline. Meanwhile two most successful Ukrainian operations (in Kyiv and Kharkiv regions) were planned and conducted by Syrskiy. So he is more than worthy of chief position. And if it helps to get better relations with partners and get more support, it is very good move for Zelenskiy. Zaluzhniy also has bright future ahead. Nobody said anything bad about him, he can continue military career or go for politics, either way people will support him.

This guest's opinions are just a little "off," particularly about the switching out of the generals. The outgoing general WAS fundamentally trained in the Soviet style: he was NOT a paragon of a NATO or any other kind of western officer. Attending a few NATO workshops does not make him western. Sitting on his *** until late June 2023 was a disgrace: NATO wanted him acting decisively back in late April 2023. I think Zelensky was told that his general's smug inaction was not acceptable. The incoming general was also in command of the brilliant defense of Kyiv city and Hostomel Airport: give credit where credit is due. That was the first big victory for Ukraine that made us all dare to believe that Ukraine could survive. I can't put my finger on it, but her agenda is different. She insinuates more than she informs, but projects this ugliness on to other people, and even thin only as rumors. "A lot of people say..." and "Some people think..." A poll in Ukraine revealed that most Ukrainians sensibly DON'T want an election and possible change in leadership in the middle of their struggle for survival. Even Ukrainians who liked the outgoing general also supported Zelensky. Like I said: there is something "'off' about this old woman's heart, her agenda is obscured.

I believe that the Russian army should leave Crimea (and Donbas), and the regions should be occupied by UN international (non-Western) peacekeeping forces. Not by the Ukrainian army. Then after 6-12 months, the UN should conduct referendums in both areas, giving the people the chance to choose their own future, without compulsion or intimidation from either Kyiv or Moscow.
@crocolagerfelden6142
@crocolagerfelden6142 3 ай бұрын
That doesn't work like that. Crimea has been under occupation for 10 years now, lots of Russians moved to Crimea over the years and many Ukrainians left. If you do a referendum with any small or big majority of current residents voting for Russia, you would make it clear that illegally annexing territories is worth the effort, because forced russification will do its job and "legitimise" occupation over time. This is why international law must be upheld. Moreover, many Russian minorities in the post-soviet space are there due to forced russification during Soviet and Tzarist times and therefore Russia can use it to lay claims on these territories, too. One other example, Kaliningrad, is mostly Russian because ethnic Germans were forcibly removed after WWII. You cannot simply solve these issues with referenda, it only makes the case for further conquest.

@@crocolagerfelden6142 : Any Russians that have moved to Crimea since 2014 should not be allowed to vote in the referendum. They are not Crimean citizens, they are Russian immigrants (foreigners). Only people who were residents of Crimea in 2013, as confirmed by local government records, and who can prove that they are residents of Crimea at the time of the referendum, should be allowed to vote. So Russians who have moved to Crimea after the Russian takeover can't vote, and Ukrainians who have left Crimea since 2014 and have not yet returned can't vote either. Hence the 6-12 month delay before any referendum to allow any Ukrainians who fled the Russian occupation enough time to return home before the referendum.

@r4zn8ib7j : Yes - a UN-run referendum, not a Russian-run one. However, the result would achieve nothing, since Germany would not accept Kaliningrad back (because Poland would be offended). If Kaliningrad were not to be Russian any longer, then Poland would claim it, not Germany.

Sorry, but as a Ukrainian I respectfully disagree. Crimea is internationally recognized Ukrainian territory. People are free to move out if they do not want to live in Ukraine. It is clear to anyone following international politics. Why should we trust any of their “peacekeepers” or referendum watchers?
