03/10/2024 from a very aged grandmother...I have many grandchildren. A couple of them receive Christ after I shared the gospel with them. The Holy Spirit Led them to receive Christ. One of these is a gay person whom I love with all my heart. Some of the others I'm not walking with the Lord. Attending the wedding is not condoning their lifestyles. It is letting them.know that I will always love them. Each knows exactly how I feel about their sin as I am on the Lord's side. I have spoken the truth to each in love. My not going will not change them but the love of the Lord through me might impress God's love upon their hearts. I would totally agree with all.your comments.

Thank you for your statements. I agree for the most part with you . The Christian community at large has been truly un-Christian concerning this matter. If I knew my son was in a strip club drinking and watching strippers, I would not hesitate to go in and sit down with him - not to have a beer and watch the show - but that a "last-ditch-effort" might persuade him to abandon this behavior. This is not the same as supporting the behavior. This is not the same as attending a gay-pride parade. At some point, the loved one may have to be abandoned - as God "gave them up" (Romans 1:24 & 26 & 28) so would the loved one have to be given up. Draw your own line - yet sin not. ~ Jude 22-23: "And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh." A fireman enters a burning building in hopes of pulling someone out of it - thereby saving a life. Only those who are properly trained and fully equipped and prepared should attempt to get so close to the flames. It seems the critics of Alistair Begg are not so strong in their faith but are quick to condemn. Alistair Begg is unmistakably a man chosen to teach. He will continue to be one of my 3 top favorites along with Charles Spurgeon and Derek Prince.

In his speech explaining his position, Alistair cited the passage where the Pharisees criticized Jesus for consorting with "sinners". He also made the point that he might not give the same advice in a different situation. In my view, Alistair's critics were being very Pharisaical, MacArthur chief among them. I am also very disappointed in "Family Radio" for dropping Truth for Life, Harold Camping's station that led others to sell all their goods in anticipation of Rapture that didn't happen.

Thank you for sharing Alistair's comments in context. I appreciate when someone digs in to discuss the nuances amidst the black and white. LGBTQ lifestyle choices are sinful, yes. Believers are called to be light in this dark world, yes. How we try to live out these truths will always be a challenge. Romans 14:4-5 4 Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand. One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. One other thought as we enter"Holy Week", I am reminded that Jesus reserved His harshest condemnation for those who set themselves up as judges.

Thank you for this perspective. As I have commented elsewhere on this issue, Pastor Begg was taking the long view in his counsel while his critics were taking a short-sighted view of self-righteousness. Maintaining a relationship to keep an open door to speak the gospel into someone's life should be our goal. I had a similar situation with my daughter and we did not condemn nor condone but addressed her confused friend by his birth identity. By staying in the game, so to speak, we were able to affirm his true identity and they are now married and he is daddy to two granddaughters. Saved? Probably not but the story is not done. But had we taken the self-righteous judgmental position...who knows where it would have gone.

In Matthew 7 the ultra pious people come to the judgement seat expecting to hear well done, yet Jesus said I never knew you! They answered didn't we prophesy in your name (in other words shared truth) . You seem to be so short sighted you forget what Jesus reiterated, I desire mercy not sacrifice. Did he say you will know mine by this that they have impeccable doctrine? No he said you will know them by their love for one another and Does it profit us if we love the ones that love us? No ! You are to love those that revile you. As for the Luke warm you need to understand context. He is warning about a church that was comfortable and rich, only the rich had hot and cold running water. Do you think worse was not happening in the Corinth Church? Paul said I have heard you are doing things not even the Greeks dare to do. We are to expose the unfruitful works of darkness by contrast of our love. The penalty for adultery and homosexuality was the same , to be stoned. That said Jesus told those picking up rocks to stone her, he who is without sin can cast the first stone. It is clear in Romans it is because of his great kindness we are led to repentance. If preaching at these people was successful then they would be converted

YOUNG MAN, WHICH IS MORE IMPORTANT, THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE GRANDMOTH-ER AND GRANDCHILD, OR THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE GRANDMOTH-ER AND GRANDCHILD ON ONE SIDE AND GOD?
@jamesnoggle2661
@jamesnoggle2661 Ай бұрын
The relationship between God and the grandmother is very secure, and she will not jeopardize it by her attendance. Her actions will prove or disprove God's love to the grandson. She is the very representation of God to him. If she goes, it speaks love. If she does not, judgment. Mercy triumphs over judgment. Christ ate and drank with sinners, and we can follow His example. He gives sinners MANY YEARS to repent.

You make a great point. Like Begg, I believe JMac made a statement based on what he believed to be possible. Since there are no scriptures for or against his views, it’s kind of neutral. However, it can be a controversial statement. And this is not the only statement he has made that people find difficult to understand.

Not show judgement and disdain especially to those of the house of GOD. “Love covers a multitude of sins”. By which Law are you judged? By none… Jesus paid yours and their complete penalty. If it was Allister Begg or the self righteousness you exhibit. It is not Allister that Matt 7 pertains to. The people in this passage were all about what they did , not what The sovereign Lord had done for us. It is by his love and great kindness that lead to repentance not your impeccable doctrine. If you are going to quote the I never knew you then you might look at that passage deeper. Jesus is judging the self righteous there and I hear a whole lot of self righteous people weighing in on it.

I am in no way saying that Alistair Begg should be cancelled, but I do believe he gave this grandmother poor advice from a pastoral perspective. I believe we all stick our foot in our mouths on occasion. The problem is he has doubled down on his mistake and is not willing to listen to the wise counsel of other pastors. That is pride. I don't think this mistake should completely erase a lifetime of faithfulness to God, but it should serve as a warning to be careful what counsel you give as a pastor. You can be compassionate and still stand on God's word.

@@futuretech2330 I do not believe that a presence with a grandchild and a gift to that grandchild, a Bible is participation in the sin. That would be like any Christian watching shows with sinful content, listening to music that is sinful, attending a restaurant that serves alcoholic beverages. Serving God by showing kindness, compassion and love to a person who is not a Christian, is what we are to do. Showing that love of Jesus and God’s glory might lead to the person accepting Jesus’s offer of salvation.

@@KarenPurdy if you can't see that you are buying into and playing along with a sinful lie, the whole idea of an lgbtq wedding falsehood, simply shows you haven't thought through this whole issue. the whole group of people attending such an abomination is sinning together and participating in a sinful activity. any christian who willfully participates (attends and goes along with the whole ritual) is also guilty. if you think you can attend such an evil thing yet not participate, you're fooling yourself. you may have good motives, but you lack biblical wisdom. listen to the wisdom of your brothers and sisters. think this through this subject instead of just thinking you must witness to someone for christ by joining in with their particular sin. jesus never, ever gives us an example of what you are arguing for. name one instance in the bible where jesus or an apostle joins into a sinners sin or sinful activity in order to "witness" to them. you can't.

So, a person's feelings govern whether or not we decide to do as God has instructed. Would it not be better to take a stand for Christ? No, we must make sure people are not comfortable in their sin. I agree with you with one difference: there is nothing we can do to make a person either feel convicted of their sins or make them comfortable with them. Conviction comes from God- He is the only One Who can change hearts. No one is saying that homosexuality is right and that it’s okay to support people who engage in that behavior. The point is: how does our ATTITUDE towards our enemies show that we love them DESPITE our disagreement?
