Respected Scottish preacher Alistair Begg, who has pastored Parkside Church in Cleveland, Ohio since 1983, recently sat down with Institute Deputy Director Simon Calvert to discuss how we should respond to attacks on biblical teaching in the form of so-called ‘conversion therapy’ bans. As you’d expect, he focused particularly on the role of preachers in preparing their congregations for life in the real world.

Seek the truth, and the truth will set you free. Free from anger, hate and prejudice. Which is opposite of what Jesus said was the most important commandment...."love your neighbor as yourself". Satan has lied and deceived us.🥲 His mission is to destroy any kind of loving relationship. Some are helping him in his mission.😞 Some consider it a sin, but not Jesus, nor the Bible. TRUTH We've misinterpreted the context of biblical passages in the past. Passages of the Bible were used to condone slavery, elevating men over women, and anti-semitism. The history of Christianity and large elements of the Hebrew Scriptures evince beliefs in a God who seem to bless a great many things we would deem today as sinful. Incest, polygamy, genocide, slavery, just to name a few. And divorce, which was considered to be a sin back then, seems to be acceptable today. Extensive research has shown us we have yet got it wrong again. The context of homosexuality in the Bible has to do with lust, not love. For instance, in the passage where it states, "a man should not lie with another man", we go back and look at the translation. The precise Hebrew words in Leviticus 20:13 actually states that the text prohibits a "sexual" relationship between a “man” (ish in Hebrew) and a male (zachar in Hebrew), not between an “ish” and another “ish".In ancient Greek culture, in that world, there was a popular and common social custom of men of a certain class socializing with younger males - in a context where mentoring, socializing, partying, and sexual activities would or could occur between the two groups. These specific words - “men” and “males” - were used precisely in descriptions of the Greek custom back then because, at that time, only men who were of adult age and of sufficient substance to own land, vote, and marry, could legally be called “men.” Those who were too young to vote, own land, or marry could only be referred to as “males” under Greek law. So since man>male is a specific term referring to Greek pederasty, then its use in Leviticus 20:13 would make that verse a prohibition of that practice, and not of homosexuality in general. That would also mean that there is no such condemnation anywhere else in the Torah (Leviticus 18:22 also uses the word zachar, rather than ish). Similarly, if the verse was meant to refer to adult homosexual behavior, the style of usage in both Leviticus 20 and the earlier Leviticus 18 would require that ish>ish be used, not ish>zachar. The fact that “isha” (woman) is used in both Leviticus verses adds to this. “An ish should not lie with a zachar as he would with an isha” makes less contextual sense than “an ish should not lie with an ish as he would with an isha". Since in its Greek meaning that “man>male” signifies a pederastic relationship, and it is this that the Leviticus verses outlaw. Therefore, the correct interpretation of the original text would be, a man shall not sleep with a boy as he does with a woman. When it was translated into Hebrew, they wrongly changed God"s word to man and man, since they had no pederasty custom. We also have the romantic relationship between Jonathan and David. One relevant Bible passage on this issue is 1 Samuel 18:1: And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. (KJV)[20] Another relevant passage is 2 Samuel 1:26, where David says: I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan: very pleasant hast thou been unto me: thy love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women. (KJV)[21] (Why a woman? Because women are the only love we have that involves sex). The story of Ruth and Naomi in the Book of Ruth is also occasionally interpreted by contemporary scholars as the story of a lesbian couple. Here is a brilliant BISHOP and biblical scholar, who spent a long time researching homosexual passages in the Bible. He has been on many TV programs, including many on ultra-conservative Bill O'Reilly's show. He gives many sound reasons why we got it wrong in the interpretation. He also found slavery, the elevation of men over women, and antisemitism to be misinterpreted. And not only this Bishop, a Biblical scholar, but the Pope has come out in support of the LGBT community as well. Telling Christians they need to ask the LGBT community for forgiveness and apologize. He also said that they need to be integrated into society. I have taken the time to pray and research on homosexuality, and abortion, to make sure I get it right. I am not trusting my eternal soul to someone else's interpretations. That is the lazy way to be a Christian. These decisions will impact other people's lives tremendously. They should not be taken lightly. But unfortunately, if there is no close relationships with an LGBT person, people find it hard to find love in their hearts to make sure they get it right. The Holy Spirit has spoken to me about this and has brought to me this research and helped me understand it. I have prayed many times to make sure that if I got it wrong to please tell me, but I have always gotten reassurance in return. Basically the Holy Spirit says that when you look Through The Eyes Of Love you can't get it wrong. So here's where he has led me on other scripture as well. Corinthians 6:9 and 1 Timothy 1:10 sound very convincing in including lesbians and gay men in the most dreadful lists of depraved human behavior imaginable. The fact is that the word translated “homosexual” does not mean “homosexual” and the word translated “effeminate” does not mean "effeminate!” The English word “homosexual” is a composite word made from a Greek term (homo, “the same”) and a Latin term (sexualis, “sex”). The term “homosexual” is of modern origin and was not used until about 100 years ago. There is no word in biblical Greek or Hebrew that is parallel to the word “homosexual.” No Bible before the Revised Standard Version in 1946 used “homosexual” in any Bible translation. The word translated as “homosexual” or “sexual pervert” or some other similar term is Greek ἀρσενοκοίτης arsenokoites, which was formed from two words meaning “male” and “bed.” This word is not found anywhere else in the Bible and has not been found anywhere in the contemporary Greek of Paul’s time. We do not know what it means. It probably refers to male prostitutes with female customers, which was a common practice in the Roman world, as revealed in the excavations at Pompeii and other sites. When early Greek-speaking Christian preachers condemned homosexuality, they did not use this word. John Chrysostom (A.D. 345-407) preached in Greek against homosexuality, but he never used this word for homosexuals, and when he preached on 1 Corinthians 6:9 and 1 Timothy 1:10, he did not mention homosexuals. Here's Also, “Soft” does not mean “effeminate.” The word translated “effeminate” in 1 Corinthians 6:9 is Greek μαλακός malakos and means “soft” or “vulnerable.” The word is translated as “soft” in reference to clothing in Matthew 11:8 and Luke 7:25 and as “illness” in Matthew 4:23 and 9:35. It is not used anywhere else in the New Testament and carries no hint of reference to sexual orientation. Malakia (μαλακία) in 1 Corinthians 6:9 probably refers those who are “soft,” “pliable,” “unreliable,” or “without courage or stability.” The translation of malakos as “effeminate” is incorrect, ignorant, degrading to women, and impossible to justify based on ancient usage compared to the meaning of “effeminate” today. The Bible was first written in the ancient languages of Hebrew and Greek and … not translated into English until 1611. It had been translated into Latin, French, and German prior to being translated into English. None of these translations ever mentioned homosexuality as an interpretation of these Greek words.

"that saved a wretch like me", making it clear that we would ALL be doomed if it weren't for the wonderful love and amazing grace that God has for all sinners. I agree with Alistair Begg that if things go on the way they are, it won't be long before some Christians are sent to prison for simply standing by biblical teaching on sexual relations, gender etc. But none of this should surprise us. Jesus warns us to expect hatred from the world (John 15:18-25). When that happens, we need to love those who hate us (Luke 6:27).

Jesus never told us to condemn same sex love. I follow JESUS. Not man. RECENT DISCOVERY OF THE MISTRANSLATION OF HOMOSEXUALITY IN THE BIBLE The discovery in the early 1950s of the Dead Sea Scrolls has led to reevaluation of text in the Bible. The Dead Sea Scrolls are the actual 950 manuscripts of the original text of the Bible. To date, this is the closest proof we have of the original text. Most of what we relied on before was copies of copies of copies and interpretations sent down through the centuries. “The NRSV Updated Edition sets out to be the most literal translation of the Bible available to date with its clear use of unambiguous and unbiased language. The new version gives English Bible readers access to the most meticulously researched, rigorously reviewed, and faithfully accurate translation on the market done by dozens of Biblical Scholars. It is also the most ecumenical Bible with acceptance by Christian churches of Protestant, Anglican, Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, African American, and Evangelical traditions.” To prevent any claim of bias, each book in the Bible was assigned a different group of biblical scholars. If the entire group agreed that there needed to be corrections, it was sent to the editorial board where it could be either rejected, excepted, or modified. Therefore, being put through a very strenuous process.

People love to talk about Romans 1, but who brings up Romans 2? Is it not pride, after all, that is the greatest sin? How about "Love Therapy"? Not as "cure" (which it always can be, of course), but as prevention (an actual education, not just chastisement). And not just for the sin "de jour", or someone else's sin. If we should apply what we know, should it not apply to us all? All of it. Just one thing: To love.

Kindness and compassion toward sinners does not include supporting sin. The well established position of the Church has been to love the sinner and hate the sin. Whatever the sin. Same sex marriage by definition, is sin. It's impossible to separate sinner from sin in this particular case. Someone tell me: what is the Tavistok reference, and is that the same thing he is mentioning when he talks about a letter written? I don't know about any of this, and want to find out. Thanks in advance.

Tavistock was a clinic which was closed recently for encouraging young people to undergo sex change without proper checks or reference to parents. Letter was from Church leaders to Scottisg Govt about proposals around 'conversion theraoy' that could hinder the Gospel

@@michaelcarson9624 Thank you so much for your reply. I hadn't heard anything about it. I want to look into it. I am happy to hear the Church leaders are being pro-active in fighting this gender ideology weirdness.

Mr Biggs, you are the first pastor that has shown any kind of compassion , understanding , and a realistic view of people that are not mainstream, this feeling or being compelled to be different some people childhood issues have driven them to change some just have that desire it comes from within there DNA it must be so hard to understand why? Stressful depressing embarrassed just an opinion.

I have a couple of questions Alistair. 1 Why is God creating imperfect children and how do you know all babies are not perfect? 2. How do you know that God said that? 3. How do you know that Paul and John and other writers of the scriptures have accurately deciphered God's words. 4. How do you know you and other English deciphers of the scriptures know your interpretations are correct. 5. When did you get permission from God to define the meaning of perfect. Voltaire who may have been the most honest and compassionate man wrote that when Christ said to his disciples Go ye and preach to all nations, he was not talking to priests and bishops, he was talking to ordinary men.

If I may. I can only truly speak from my own experience and from what I have seen. I was raised a Christian, but as a teen the world seemed so much more exciting and interesting (that hugely wide road! Right!?). God never left me despite a path through huge darkness as I pursued beliefs in New Age (Praise God for saving me and many brothers and sisters from this deception). His faithfulness is absolutely apparent and obvious to me. But without that, the world remains that “matrix” of deception. There are many issues particularly caught up in the LGBT that don’t want to acknowledge themselves, the help that is needed rather than what is going on. But we all know we are living in the end times, right!? That’s not to say don’t be saying this or covering it, I just wish it was perhaps acknowledged a bit more rather than speaking about it like these things are a surprise to awakened Christians, who see the times we are living in. Although I appreciate this too, is called to be done in love but even when done so, I think it’s shakes people. A vast understanding many just aren’t ready for. In a world where you can be whatever you want to be, many can’t comprehend that there is a real God and the truth of things that have actually happened in worlds history that are not only denied but hidden. Thank you for this interview 🙏🏻

It is influential because it is taught in school and framed as being "kind" and a way for ppl to be their "authentic selves" through pharmaceutical, social and surgical intervention. All which have devasting and life threatening effects on a persons health, destroying the ability of natural reproduction. Any one opposing it is being framed as being "hateful" or "bigoted" and in some places doing so is grounds for being fired, having children taken away or is punishable by law.

As an ex-baptist, and now a full law-keeper, this conversation illustrates why all of God's laws will remain intact until heaven and earth pass away. Jesus didn't do away with any of his laws - and neither should we. So - have you ever considered tithing biblucally? Observing the biblical Sabbath (not the Catholic day of the Sun)?

Glad to know some people believe the word of God is a book to the sick and afflicted. In Corintians says even some of the people were the same. Its a matter of God is perfect God,just and Holy we must listen to him with ears to receive his command. We must stay with the Word and God will do what is neccseary to help thosae who will be saved. To God be the glory.

I've always respected Alistair as an orator but this is just propaganda. It, in point of fact, IS COERCION. If you set up a system that fundamentally is built around the concepts of an authoritarian hierarchy, the mere existence of that asymmetric power dynamic induces coercion. It relies entirely on convincing an impressionable young mind that there is something wrong with him or her. The data, by an overwhelming margin, supports that conversion therapy increases rates of depression and suicide. How could it not when someone is forced, through an expectation of submission to authority, to reconcile the chasm between what they are told they should be and what they know themselves to be on the inside. Western evangelical Christianity is toxic.
