I'm not the first to say it, but at 9:35, it is a track frame and rollers for a large P&H mining shovel. The car itself (PHMX 4428) belongs to the builder, P&H Mining Equipment. The heavy welded-in brackets and I-beams to hold it in place was neat to see. Pay attention to that, modelers.

The heavy metal on the yellow bulkhead flat car came from Komatsu either manufactured in Milwaukee or coming from an East Coast port. In the last month several of their cars were seen going east empty to apparently pick something up that came over by ship. The reporting marks are a reflection upon the previous owner of the car P&H Harnischfeger cranes which was purchased by Komatsu

Is the NS coach at Strasburg because they just acquired it or did someone send it there for restoration? And to which rail line do those bilevels in Burlington belong to. Also, it's nice to see that kid dressed up as a locomotive.
@00Zy995 ай бұрын
No idea where those bilevels are going. They probably came from the tourist railroad in Saratoga, NY, that folded a while back. Those are Long Island Railroad C1s. The C1 was the prototype for the main production run of C3 bilevels. Of course, the two types are not compatible (different HEP systems), so the C1s became oddballs and were retired early, getting scattered to various tourist operations around the Northeast.

When a whole passenger train is the only freight, do they observe the freight train speed limit, or can the open it up to the passenger train speed limit?

There is an exception if you are stopped not actively performing any safety sensitive tasks, only then, if the other crew member agrees that you can use your phone, you can use it. Question, the engines that are at the end of a train, are those manned by anybody?
@NW6115 ай бұрын
No. those are what are called DPU’s (Distributed Power Unit) but some times they are manned. But that’s usually on short line railroads.
@wesdog89755 ай бұрын
@NW611 thank you
@desw91465 ай бұрын
At Horseshoe Curve the rear helper sets (two engines with cabs outward) are usually crewed, because they only stay with the train for a short distance. They assist with power uphill and braking downhill. Elsewhere, as per NW611's reply, they're controlled by radio from the leading cab.

Why do they run the steam engines backwards all the time at Paradise?
@kennethhanks67125 ай бұрын
No turning facilities at Paradise so engines in reverse to there and run forward return to Strasburg (so a 50/50 split). This means forward facing engines for the crowds at station. Also incidentally with grade up to Strasburg makes it easier to maintain boiler water level over crown sheets.
