Well done. I enjoyed it. It was just the right length. In 2010 I was in Seoul for an internship. In the drawer of my nightstand at the hotel was a book about Buddhism, kind of like a Gideons Bible. I remember the passage about how everything is impermanent. Life is like a river, it's waters ever flowing. Even the river stones will one day be worn away, ground down to sand, and carried out to sea. We can try to fight the flow of the water, or we can float down the river and be one with the journey. In 2017 I got married, and someone very wise told me that changes in life can sometimes feel like mourning. It is not death, but it is loss never the less. I was leaving my old life behind, with an urban family, and starting my own. The excitement of infinite possibilities was closing, but new doors opened. This year my second child was born. And I can't tell you how true it has been. Denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance, I feel like my wife and I have stepped through a lot of it in the last 5 years. I'm not the person I was back then, that person is gone. I have a mortgage, dependents, schedules for drop off and pick ups at daycare. Seeing that waffle maker, and those shoes hanging from powerlines brought back so many wonderful memories of college. When I reminisce about the freedom of the old days I remember it in my body like a tingle on my skin or a lightness in my step (or maybe it was just the humidity of New England summers). The seasons of life are ever changing. Every stage of life has it's wonders and rewards. If we cling to the past then we might forget to appreciate the present. Live in the moment.

Beautifully done. Some will say they are just shoes, but fuck those people. They have been part of your journey through pivotal moments and they became a part of YOU. Letting go is hard, but this is a beautiful send off. We gotta let go of the things that are fading.
