Haha I always feel like Dutchies don’t think about wearing a helmet while biking, because biking isn’t necessarily seen as a sport or activity. Just as an extension of our legs, lol. Dutchies almost bike before they walk! And you wouldn’t wear a helmet while walking around 🤷🏼♀️ When biking becomes sport (mountain biking, etc), people do wear helmets. Interesting observations! Always so much fun to hear someone speak about ‘your’ city ✌🏻

I’m wondering if you would consider doing a video about life in Amsterdam vs life in Berlin, seeing as you’ve now lived in both (and Lilian mentioned being from there). I’ve lived in Amsterdam for 4 years now because of university + my girlfriend is from here, and am looking for Master’s programmes in the Netherlands as well as in Germany. Soooo many of my friends are packing up for Berlin!

I always love hearing people’s observations of my city! How is the winter compared to Toronto? Amsterdam is definitely not known for its food scene but there are some nice vegetarian gems. Hope this helps! Arabic/middle eastern: Mana Mana, Mitts, Bardak, Hummus bistro, Traffic Vietnamese: Pho 91, Viet View (de Hallen) Greek: The vegan pita from Vleesch Noch Visch (‘neither meat nor fish’) is SO GOOD Italian: DOPE makes great vegan pizzas, must try the ‘Flower Blossom’ with potato Fast food: Vegan junkies, their loaded fries are good Mexican: Cabron

I've lived in both Toronto and Berlin. Now living in Amsterdam. I must say, this is one of the most difficult places I've ever been to for food. It's just so expensive!!!!!! And lack of variety. Toronto and Berlin are (in the food category) unparalleled to Amsterdam. Sorry! I still love and adore Amsterdam.

The reason why shops don't accept credit cards is that credit card companies ask too much money. The Dutch banks did it cheaper and kept the American companies out.

Please don't refrain from expressing your true feelings about things, don't be stopped by comments, you're doing the right thing. Amsterdam is truly charming, but its greatest charms just aren't in its dining options.

Yees, because you like Indian and veggie food, you want to eat food with nice flavors from the ex-colonial countries. We have very good Surinamese Indian cuisine as they have a long history in The Netherlands. So if you want “indian” food you want to look for “ Indian from Surinam”. Lalla Rookh for example is a great one(better than Roopram) And when it comes to vegetarian you want to go for indeed Indonesian(long Dutch colonial history) or Surinamese Javanese restaurants(long Dutch colonial history) restaurants as their cuisine also has a lot of veggie options and they have a more established place in the Netherlands. If you’re eating Nordic/Dutch veggie food it will be very bland. “Bird” (the small one, theres a big one in front of it) its the best thai place of Amsterdam! Very local. . “Yemaya”-Surinamese Caribbean Vegan food! “Rotishop Gieta Surinamese Takeaway”=incredible surinamese Indian food. “Taste of west”-Caribbean Surinamese food. In general Surinamese restaurants have a lot of vegan/veggie options with tons of flavour as the kitchen is made up of different ethnicities Javanese, Chinese, West African and Indian :) “Warung Spang Makandra”- also Surinamese Caribbean.

Amsterdam is always playing catchup in the food arena. Toronto has a much more vibrant food scene with Korea Town being around for forever, and you find boba everywhere! Food-wise, a lot of other countries is better, and more reasonably priced than The Netherlands.

Indeed the infrastructure makes it safe enough to not need a helmet on the bicycle. Leaving injuries due to other accidents, as you mentioned. But that makes me think. There are more (head)injuries in car accidents, so it would be logical to have all people in cars (not just the driver) to wear a helmet. There are also accidents happening in house, so people should wear a helmet at home. Especially when taking a shower, lots of accidents there. (I suppose it's safe enough to take the helmet off when sitting on the couch). You might trip over something while walking, so wear a helmet. So in short: accidents can happen any time any where any how, so allways wear a helmet. Wearing a helmet only when you are cycling is an illusion of safety.
