If you look at that 'lid' with the longest measurement top to bottom ('0' shaped), it clearly shows a back view of a knight riding his charger in bas relief - so it looks like it might have been a brooch.

Metal detectorists seem to share a common condition with amateur astronomers. We tend to catch “aperture fever,” the symptoms of which include an unceasing desire for larger snd larger telescopes. Once you catch it, there’s no help for you.
