Here I have explained how the calcerous skeleton of corals are formed by Coral Polyps which are tiny animals. These coral polyps give shelter and protection to microscopic algae Zooxanthellae which carries on the process of nutrient recycling and photosynthesis. Corals are of two types - Soft corals and hard corals. Reefs are formed on hard corals.
Corals are also thriving in Cold Waters. The corals thriving in warm water require clean and clear water and excessive pollution, disposal of civic and industrial waste, nutrient and sediment loading may kill the corals.
