Finally an accurate explanation! There is a lot of conflicting information that is out there. I’ve researched this for years and I heat my wax to 200 F add FO regardless of FP and my HT is great so that tells me it DID NOT burn off. I use a coconut soy palm blend wax.

Memory Box Candle Co you have to keep stirring so it doesn’t solidify. The low temp method works for me but I think it depends on the quality of fragrance oil being used and I’m using 8% fragrance oil because I find 10% burns off for me personally x

My neice knows I make candles and I'm kinda new to it and she wants me to make her mom a eucalyptus scented candle and I just noticed that one I ordered has a FP of 143f so I was like...Damn...I have to pour the paraffin at 190 to prevent bubbles though lol. Thank you so much for this video! Very helpful. Couple of follow up questions. To confirm, you recommend adding FO at whatever temp specified by your wax, period, regardless of anything else? I know testing is key, just wondering if youve found manufacturer recommendations to be accurate for determining these temps? To piggyback on that, why do different soy waxes have such variation in what temp is recommended for adding FO and also for pouring? (I'm currently using American Soy Organics millennium wax but also bought some Well-Soy wax from Wellington Fragrance. Both rec heating to 160, add FO, pour at 115) Last question, what does the hexagon shape in your tops tell you about FO? Like I'm just asking out of ignorance, how/what does that indicate to you? I'm a hobbyist, my tops are getting better, I just never thought that had anything to do with FO, only with pouring/cooling temp. I don't expect a personalized reply to this long post, but would love to see another video on the whole FO/hot throw topic.

Hi Erica may I add something I discovered regarding flash point. Recently I had a fragrance oil with a very low flashpoint. Didn't pay to much attention to it until I did a test burn. I used 6006 8%fo and htp93 wick did my test all went good on first burn. Did my test burn and after 2hr the candle caught fire. At first I thought ok did I put fo in at a lower temp and it did not mix well but that was not the case I added it at 180. So I recreated the same candle same way and it happen again. But this time around I monitored the candle every 20 minutes by testing how hot the candle was getting. Sure enough the candle reach a high temp way past the flashpoint on the FO. Although I had a nice pool the wick was obviously to big which caused the candle to heat up past flashpoint causing it to go boom. Just thought I would throw this in there. This is the only thing I can think of that caused it unless you or anyone else has any other ideas you can share.

Thanks for this video!!! I actually just asked that same question during a candlescience live demonstration. She gave the same info but she wasn't able to elaborate on it. Your video clarified it for me! Quick question- so I'm trying soy 10 for the 1st time. Per supplier, pouring temp is 190. So do I add the fragrance oil at 185, mix it then put it back on the double boiler to heat up to 190 then pour? Thanks in advanced for your help! 😊

Hi Erica! Thank you so much for your videos! So I am new to candle making, and I have made a lot of candles but turned out that they don't really smell strong. I used Alex's method which I melt soy wax to 150F and then I poured out my FO at around 120F and then put the melted wax in my jar at around 110-115F. I bought fragrance oils at a perfume seeds store and I don't really know their flashpoints. Do you have any suggestions on how to 'remake' my candles so it can smell stronger? Can I remelt them, and add more FO? Do you think it would work? Thank you in advance!

I used the Aztec Candle Soy starter kit and per the instructions on the sheet provided. It suggest the F.O. be added at 150 degrees and the wax heated to 170 degrees. So far not bad I can't wait to do the burn test in a few days. You suggest 5 days to let the candle finish setting up? Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and am very motivated to continue my new candle making business journal.

So just to confirm, I've read to add FO in at about 180-185 degrees F, if one FO has a flash point of 170- are you saying that won't matter? Just to confirm- it won't be burned out because I'm adding it in at 180-185 degrees when it's flash point is lower?

Hi! thank you very much for the video ⭐️. May I ask you something? - I've tried adding FO in high temperature 180/185 F, low temperature 120-15- F. - I've tried 2 different types of candles (coconut and soy wax) - I've tried to lit the candles in a small bathroom. I can smell the fragrant in cold throw, but my candle doesn't give off the slightest fragrance in hot throw 😥. Can you tell me why this happened?

I've used pure essential oils but it didn't work too 😅 So far I mix 10-20% FO (as recommended by the store) on 30 grams of wax, I didn't use a lot of candles because I want to test the scent first. Am I pouring too little FO? or is my wax too little?

What do you think about using a parasoy wax blend.I really want to use a wax that has some additives like a small amount of food grade paraffin but I’m afraid that if I sell on Etsy, no one will buy my candles because the majority of candles sold on Etsy are soy.
