Great informative video! I'm getting two 4tb m.2 nvme drives with HMB 3.0 and Dynamic SLC(pcie gen 4). Paired with my ddr5 64gb 6000mhz ram, I'm assuming windows 10 will be able to utilize that ram and achieve good sustained writing speeds. Fingers crossed I didn't make a mistake with this purchase! In my budget, I had the choice of two 2 tb drives with dram or two 4tb with hmb 3.0 & dynamic slc. I was just thinking twice the capacity(and I definitely need 8tb of storage) for the same price is well worth a 10-50% decrease of read/write speeds, considering these are all incredibly fast. I think 7000 read/write is incredible, but not that much better than the already impressive speeds of 4000+.

@@syarifairlangga4608 I'm mostly happy with my build. But I wish I had bought at least one ssd with dram. I've been having stutter issues with most games after prolonged play, and suspecting that its suffering from the limitation of the hmb ssd's speed declining over time

@@saften1 what ? i think dramless ssd wont affect stutter, because game only use Read speed and not write speed

I recently bought an HMB SSD (Samsung 990 EVO) for my 2022 laptop computer, but apparently the laptop is not compatible with HMB. The motherboard is Pcie 3 and has Intel RST drivers, and that may be incompatible with HMB. The read speeds are excellent but the write speeds are a little slower than I expected. Still fast enough for my needs. My advice is if your computer has Pcie 3 for the M.2 slot, then stick to an SSD with DRAM cache.

you can change to AHCI, btw 2022 laptop already support HMB

@@syarifairlangga4608 Thanks, but it's already AHCI. The Intel RST drivers are a nuisance. They can be removed, but then I'd have to reinstall Windows from scratch, and it's not worth it. I just moved the Samsung 990 Evo to a different computer that doesn't have the RST drivers and used a different SSD in the laptop.

Does a 2.5 inch SATA SSD supports HMB ? Or this feature is exclusive to NVMe SSDs ? So if you buy a DRAM-less 2.5 inch SATA SSD it won't support HMB no matter what ?

SATA SSDs won't support HMB, HMB is exclusive to m.2 NVMe SSDs. Front side bus is very fast compared to super slow sata it wouldn't work. Samsung evo nvme uses hmb now and only has dram for Samsung pro and cost much more. Samsung evo sata still has dram

Why arent you guys advertising the 2tb 2230s more? It seems to me like under almost every comment section of videos discussing steam deck ssd upgrades, a 2tb ssd is always part of the discussion, and you arent trying to capitalize off of that? Pretty odd.

SSDs with DRAM will perform better but HMB is far better than SSDs that do not support it in terms of speed. Some SSDs like small form factor SSDs do not have room of a DRAM chip so HMB fills that gap but if you had a choice between an HMB ssd and a DRAM ssd in a form factor like a 2280 then I would chose a DRAM SSD.
