Remove the "Page File" from your SSD's and that will reduce the amount of unnecessary read/write/deletes from your SSD's daily. Toss a SATA spinner drive in and make it house the "Page File" because a standard hard drive is much more durable in the long term for Windows systems given how much data can be written and erased by just browsing websites and watching KZbin.

Alternatively, install 2x as much RAM as you think you'll need and disable the page file. While you're doing that, turn off hibernation as the hiberfil.sys file will eat your SSD lifespan.

If a DRAM SSD is advertised as 7000 mb/s read/write. And a DRAM-Less SSD is advertised as 7000 mb/s read/write as well, would there be any difference between the two?
@AbhishekKr1902
@AbhishekKr1902 11 күн бұрын
Even though both SSDs are advertised with the same read/write speeds of 7000 MB/s, there are still some differences between a DRAM SSD and a DRAM-less SSD: DRAM SSD: Faster Performance: DRAM provides a faster cache for frequently accessed data and mapping tables, resulting in quicker read/write speeds and lower latency. Consistency: Offers more consistent performance, especially in random read/write operations. Higher Power Consumption: Consumes slightly more power due to the additional DRAM chip. DRAM-less SSD: Cost-Effective: Generally cheaper as it doesn't include a DRAM chip. HMB Technology: Uses Host Memory Buffer (HMB) to utilize system RAM as a cache, which is slower than dedicated DRAM but still effective. Lower Power Consumption: Consumes less power compared to DRAM SSDs. In summary, while both SSDs may offer similar advertised speeds, the DRAM SSD will likely provide better performance, especially in tasks requiring frequent random access. The DRAM-less SSD, on the other hand, is more budget-friendly and still performs well with the help of HMB technology.

DRAM is great however your average consumer coming from a 5400rpm mechanical hard drive, upgrading to a DRAM-LESS BX500 is going to be extremely happy with the speed increase in general! It is not going to be a huge deal to them, nor would they even notice unless you said something.

How does also improve overheating? (as not having DRAM, or worst as it will require to more bottlenecks). In conclussing, does it make sense external DRAM-less NVMe for video editing? Thank you!

SATA SSDs run around 550MB/s and M.2 NVMe SSDs without DRAM can do triple those numbers meaning faster transfers and copying data, plus some workflows need higher speeds than 550MB/s as the data rates can be higher than this. Also when building a PC, it can be much easier and cleaner to install an M.2 NVMe than a SATA SSD. Of course we recommend if you can get an SSD with DRAM like our Sabrent Rocket which is very affordable, then we would recommend that as you will get better longevity and speeds but some setups like in laptops for example it may not be an option

is 50gb typical? I would be surprised if that was an average write load for a computer not doing much. However, they do have many ssds with endurance of about 600tb. That would take quite a long time to use of even with 50gb per day, or 100 gb per day.

@@jacobnunya808 600 TBW is just the warranty numbers the manufacturer promise, its not real, my SSD has 800TBW rating but HWinfo tell me that its drive life remaining is 44% after just 90TB write. If Hwinfo is accurate then this drive will die in the next 2 years which by then already exceed 5 years warranty. I have another older SSD which is a true MLC? it also had DRAM and the DRAM write is over 150 TB but the SSD host write is only 35TB and HWinfo shows 99% life remaining See how big the difference? 50GB write into the SSD by OS seems typical, my other PC with the MLC SSD just only using as HTPC had 150GB+ written in 2 days but it mostly goes into the DRAM cache so no problem my current PC have 200GB written in 40 hours, not doing anything special apart from gaming and downloading to HDDs i advise download the latest HWinfo and check for yourself, older version could not see the DRAM writes it always only show 7GB or something, people that own a SSD with DRAM will only see about 5GB write per day before this because everything goes into DRAM.

Bear in mind guys that the bigger the storage the more TBW cycles an SSD has since the more space allows the SSD to put data in different parts and reuse the same parts more rarely. Also with an SSD is really bad filling it. The less free space you leave the less the life span since it has to move around so much data and when it is full is has to move around everything and use everything. So when you buy an SSD always give your self some extra space and assume you are buying a smaller capacity than what it says on the box. For example i bought a 2TB SSD. I really wanted 1TB but i bought 2TB just for that since this is gonna be the SSD hosting my OS and i want it to last long. If i ever feel the need to store more i'll only go as much 1.5TB at most so i can leave it some space.

@vajraentite133
@vajraentite133 Жыл бұрын
What happened is there are no real tangible difference that average users can feel using gen3 or gen4. So people went for gen3 for the cheaper price driving up the demand. Higher demand drove up the prices, leaving low demand for the gen4's. Which made me able to buy a 2tb WD770 for just 80 bucks.

DRAM SSDs are extremely necessary if you choose it as a main drive to boot your OS. Without DRAM, it could potentially take a bit longer. Here in India, SSDs with DRAM cost only about 3-4 dollars more than DRAM less drives. That's the reason I never looked at DRAM less drives. Even if yo only want to store games or media, I still recommend you choose the better option. It just unleashes the full potential of using an SSD.

I reproduced this problem a number of times with multiple MX500 drives, multiple SABRET USB to SATA adapters on multiple PCs and I always get this catastrophic data corruption. I updated the firmware to the latest available and contacted Crucial, but they are not interested in this issue.
