Iran has guided cruise missiles with help from Russia and China which are hard to intercept as they fly below radar, but the fact they haven't used it and opted instead for dumb ballistic missiles which on impact leaves a crater and significant damage in its surroundings shows you that they were testing mainly Israel's air defense capabilities and they used this attack to send them a warning. If Israel retaliate by attacking the oil and nuclear sites, this would be certainly a major escalation and many would wonder whether this attack is seen as a justification and reasonably acceptable. That the Arab gulf countries have reassured Iran Israel will not be allowed to use their airspace to attack them is fortunately a good decision made by them.
