Thank you for explaining this simple solution to the problem of positioning the arms of the Deceased. I spotted these hanging on the back of the door when I watched your Preparation Room vlog and I just couldn't imagine how they would be used. I had always assumed that the arms were positioned immediately after embalming and before the limbs stiffened as a result.

Kari, I was told by a person working at a funeral home once that when a person is dead, in order to position the body correctly in the coffin they usually need to snap or even break the bones. Is that so? I can believe it because once you are dead, the body becomes rigid and hard.

So once you have the arms in place...then what? Is the deceased shown with these under the clothing? If not, how do you get the arms to stay when you take the hooks off for viewing?
@squalli12972 жыл бұрын
The hooks are used to "pose" the hands in front bodies before & then removed after each body is embalmed. The embalming process fixes, stiffens, or freezes bodies into position to display a pleasing appearance in caskets.

@barbatloosenutproductions20272 жыл бұрын
I do believe, by the time the deceased is placed in the casket or before the viewing, the embalming fluid has "set up". This leaves the deceased ridged enough to hold it in position, and the device is removed.
@genevieveberthiaume11932 жыл бұрын
I'm going to add my comment here, since it's somewhat related. If the arms are having a hard time staying where they're supposed to be, then after that device is removed, what keeps their arms in place? I saw the comment by "Barb at Loose nut productions". Is that what happens? The embalming fluid sets up? I'm guessing that the arms don't stay in place due to rigor mortis, because I remember you saying in a different video, that rigor mortis only happens for a short period of time, about an hour or two after death, and that after that, the body is loose again.
@squalli12972 жыл бұрын
The hooks are placed while features are set & bodies are posed before embalming. The hooks are removed after embalming when the tissues within bodies are fixed or stiffened into position from the process. The hooks are reusable.

Is an extremely practical device to keep arms in place It is useful in the preparation As well as The eventual viewing of the family or friend that passed away during the funeral service The Vocational of a embalmer Is always been considered weird Creepy and unconventional Over more than a hundred years unfortunately in modern society However These " caretakers of our family and Friends" that have passed away Their services and their helpfulness leave us with a positive State of Mind When viewing family or friends that have passed away when viewing them at a funeral service without them Seeing a family member or friend in a very tragic physical state Especially after a sudden death an accident A long stay in the hospital because of an illness These caretakers of the Dead bring decency, cleanliness and loving last images of our loved ones and Friends I personally will have no shame in entering this type of vocation If I was able to enter a vocational training program at a younger age I will have no feelings of regret knowing that this is truly an honor To serve people and their family , Friends in their grief-stricken saddest moments of their lives And bringing positive images and feelings of closure
