Well, I've done motion graphics for at least 10 years or so. My early teens were full of video editing for an old youtube channel I deleted ages ago so that's where a lot of my experience came from. I use Adobe After Effects for all of my videos and I create a good chunk of my assets in PhotoShop when I need something specific. I use Hexels to create sprite gifs and upscale them to an HD resolution with no artifacts. The fonts I use are just fonts I really like lol like the AppleKid font is from EarthBound to match the visuals, and my personal drop shadow font doesn't exist anywhere else, at least not in english text. In terms of tips I can give, honestly... I've never been good at teaching that sort of thing but all I can say is, never settle for less when editing. Keep working on the same few seconds even if it takes you hours, until you're satisfied with how it came out. I always go for 1080p 60fps compositions. A lot of the extra motion graphics I add are just to add depth to the footage so it's not stagnant or boring. So keeping things in motion or animated will always appear more interesting than staring at a still image for a long time. Whatever you find visually pleasing or portrays your personality really. Hope that helps a little. Overall, just have fun with it. If you notice mistakes you make, use that to improve for next time, never let it discourage you. If you ever feel like "Oh I could do this way better if I did it like this instead" then you're on the right track. Growth is the best part of doing something you enjoy for a long time :)

0:33 I don't play games just from my childhood. Granted, there are many older games I just won't touch, like most of what Atari had to offer, but nostalgia isn't the only factor. A love of retro games can come in different flavors and while it *helps* to have grown up with the systems and games, it's not really a requirement. I never played the Dreamcast. Didn't even know what it was until I was in college and the system and Sega's whole aspiration for a successful console line were dead. I know, random tangent over a small comment, but it annoys me that people don't appreciate that these games offered a lot beyond nostalgia. Some of them are genuinely just really fun to play. I don't care what system you play it on, Tetris is always going to be fun to play, and whether you play Chrono Trigger on the SNES or the DS or an emulator or on Steam, you're going to have a fun time, because it's a great game. And no matter the version of Super Mario Bros. you play, if you're into sidescrollers (which for the most part, I am *not),* you are still getting a solid, enjoyable experience, because they're well-made games. Obviously a remake makes it better. Super Mario All-Stars beats the original versions by miles, visually, but the introduction of the Generation 6 remakes of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire didn't suddenly make Ruby and Sapphire and Emerald worthless to me. I think they look amazing to this day, but the style is different. There's a reason so many indie games focus on pixel art and old PS1 graphics (for horror games). It's not just nostalgia, though they do long for those days, and it's not just because the games are cheaper to produce, but of course they *are.* It's because they think the games look good. And they do. EDIT: Just to put it another way, I don't listen to 80s music because I want to relive my childhood. I was born a decade later. I just think the 80s culture has great appeal. Lots of people do, which is a large reason why Stranger Things got so popular. Getting achievements for these games seems like a really cool feature. I've only recently started to appreciate achievements as a whole after working so hard to get to nearly 100% achievements in Halo MCC (there are a LOT). I don't obsess over it, but it's something cool to work towards, and since RetroArch offers connectivity with the feature, I'm thinking of taking advantage of it when I eventually get an RG35XX Plus or similar handheld.
