WHAT ARE SUPERFAKES (And should you buy them?)

The Chanel 2.55, a Hermès Birkin, the Lady Dior -it seems that luxury bags are everywhere. But are they all real? Some are, some of them not so much. The “fake industry” has evolved and the copies have become “better” and often resemble the originals so closely that there are rumours that not even the brands themselves can tell them apart. These so-called “superfakes” have become increasingly popular. Even though they are not cheap, online purchases via questionable websites or online groups or at physical markets are booming.
I find this development interesting. I wonder why would you go through such an ordeal for a fake bag? Is it really worth buying them? And what are the consequences if you decide to purchase a superfake. I am answering these questions and show you that there is actually a much bigger picture to this topic.

I am not interested in luxury bags but I love this channel for all the history and information. Maybe most people don't know that but Louis Vuitton lost their case years ago against a company that was creating fake LV bags because they were better quality than the originals.

I have purchased 4 super fake LV monogram bags. I use these bags as workhouse bags and they get beat up and put through a lot. These bags have held up so well it blows my mind. No loose strings, no tears, no extreme scuffs. I have been very impressed with the quality and I would NEVER buy a real bag knowing the bags I can get will hold up just as well. Some of these superfakes are such good craftsmanship, it is no different craftsmanship from an Asian person making the bag vs an Italian or French. May the ethical standards be questionable.. yes. However the ethical standard of pricing a bag that cost the company $50 in raw material and pricing them at $4000 is also questionable as well. Not to mention the workers for the large brands also are treated poorly as well with too many standards and quotas to make each quarter.

Thanks for sharing, it’s really interesting to read about your experience and the quality of your bags. I agree with your argument about the margins - it has become increasingly insane what is being charged for designer bags. Most of the money people spend on bags probably goes into the huge marketing campaigns. That was one of the reasons I decided to support smaller labels and designers.

Same! I have a super fake Fendi x Tiffany blue baguette, LV Dauphine soft GM and then a few medium quality fakes like the Dior Lady bag, LV Neverfull, red empriente LV Speedy and LV denim bumbag. They really are just as good as the original. I used to participate in equestrian sports, which requires a lot of high quality leather products like boots, bridles, saddles, etc. Even the real bags will never be full grain saddle leather quality, but the super fakes can definitely compete with the top grain leathers used by the original fashion brands. From Tanner Leatherstein's channel, I've learned they sometimes don't even use top grain leather, or they'll line the bag in plastic faux leather instead!! How is that luxury??? 😂

I wouldn't buy a superfake or any type of fake anything. For me it's a moral issue and also I buy luxury bags for myself not to show off to other people.

I‘m the same, I want to appreciate quality and craftsmanship and this doesn’t necessarily mean that I have to buy from a big brand, there are a lot of amazing independent brands to choose from

I have been given fakes and told it was real, that was a very bad feeling, I don't mind a lool for less but leave the brands off it.

The BBC and another private group that rescues women, both did documentaries on salvery in the UK and other European countries, they work in factories or even in unassuming roles like nannies and housekeepers. If the people in some of the "luxury countries" factories are basically slaves, then what is the difference between them and a sweat shop in China making fakes? And if youre choosing reputable dealers then some of those groups will even scout talent from the real designers to make their bags and teach their workers proper techniques. And if you have a good relationship with your dealer then you do actually have recourse for any mistakes made on your bag. If you dealt with a scammer then you won't be able to do much, obviously. Thats why superfakes cost more. And lastly, when major conglomerates with certain interests decide to hire political lobbyists and use their inflated prices to fund these lobbyists in multiple countries to change our laws for their own interests, not the for the benefit of the people living there, then arent they guilty of the same corruption as a superfake dealer? How is that different than other types of money laundering? Theyre funneling money for the purpose of rewriting our laws to suit their mega corporation and usually those types of laws are a detriment to the citizens. 🤷‍♀️ Just my perspective and my experience in our current political setting.

Thank you for sharing your opinion and for this elaborate comment. Unfortunately, I have to agree with you - slavery and exploitation is not limited to only a few countries, it is also happening at everyone’s doorstep - sometimes more and sometimes less obvious. What do you do - do you buy fakes or do you only buy from smaller labels where you can do something like a personal due diligence on their standards?

@@PinkLookbook Both. Nobody makes simply black and white choices. I have smaller, "no-name" local artisan bags, mid-range labels like Coach or Dooney and Bourke Florentine leather (because even the best leathers don't cost thousands of dollars in materials, labor and overhead costs, Tanner Leatherstein is a great educational channel to learn more..) If I occasionally really like a mainstream style from one of the corrupt major fashion houses, I buy a super replica. Thanks for asking about my ethical choices 😉
