Of all the aspects of Salmon fishing the Great Lakes, electronics is the one that is so under utilized. Majority of Capts/Wkd Anglers only use 2D sonar but Side Imaging is such a valuable tool. Do a split screen with 2D and Side Imaging and use the SI to scan your sides for bait balls. Once you identify one, drop a waypoint on it and then circle the boat around to pass through it. You'll catch fish. Another thing that is next level is using Livescope in a trolling setup. You can actually see your spread and see fish coming up to the baits. It's something a handful of folks are using in this way that obviously wasn't intended to be used in but it works. Great episode gents.

Livescope works decent but the ps 31 panoptics transducer is a better option for salmon trolling
@ChiCityYaker3 жыл бұрын
@@406life why is that?
@406life3 жыл бұрын
@@ChiCityYaker lives scope is designed for water less than 50 foot deep, and has a much higher frequency than the original panoptics. The lvs 32 transducer has a 20° degree beam as well Wich is pretty narrow. The ps 31 or original panoptics has a much wider beam and is better for deep water. The ps 31 is used by some great lakes captains. If you want more info there is a fish hawk podcast on just that topic.

Gave up on my Fish Hawk after loosing one probe. I use Fish Hawk TD temp probe hooked to downrigger, drop it all the way down to the bottom, read it, see where thermocline is, start fishing. Bob, Salmon Catcher Fishing Charters.

best advice.... when going thru harbor and channels stop and look at whats going on. tells u if fish are in skinny, been in skinny, moving out of skinny, runs starting etc. once window opens for skinny leaves all that water open where its not touched. when it closes or beginning to close gives u the jump to get on the next push coming from the south.

Your gonna want to get someone on that uses a Garmin Livescope. You set it to see all your lures, fish coming into lures, striking missing hitting. Amazing!

Seems like you are trying to keep panoptix/livescope secret , is that true , or are you not upto the panoptix game changer?

Not at all. This video is a couple years old. I ran panoptix last season and will be running both Livescope and panoptix this season. Stay tuned for lots of new videos talking about both.

I was wondering what is the most common airmar transducer for great lakes fishing
@Reel2ReelOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
Not really sure. Most of the new graphs use a specific transducer to get all of the features.

Never marked much on sonar salmon fishing till they started with the heavy lk trout plants. We have tournaments thousands of pounds of salmon came across the scale no one was marking fish. Fish hawk is the deadly weapon really should be outlawed works that good. That thing starts acting up it's like fishing blind ..

Appreciate the video! I just wonder if any of the Captains are concerned about their boats electronic signature ? And what steps they may have taken to improve or correct their signature? This could be a fascinating topic. I also wonder as a separate but similar topic if sound or vibration is a concern? In Florida some charter boat captains wrap a tennis ball around their downrigger line .

When I'm heading out in the big lake and get up to faster speeds, my fish finder will not read depth of water or show arches, however it will maintain the speed over ground, then finally after I slow back down to trolling speeds -it starts to read correctly. Is this a common issue or potentially a transducer placement relation or does this happen to everyone?

What kind of transducer?
@westmichiganfishing96133 жыл бұрын
@@Reel2ReelOutdoors It just hit me when you asked that, I have a Garmin transducer mounted on the back of the boat but there's also a thru-hull puck. I just did some google image searching and I'm thinking that the transom ducer must have been from an older finder the previous owner left on when he upgraded to a newer fish finder. So I also seen some thru-hulls needing outside the boat adaptors to read depths at high speeds, doesn't that defeat the whole thru-hull concept...lol. Must be it. Thanks for helping get my wheels turning in the right direction.

If it is at all a bumpy ride out the Lowrance will frequently act as you described. When I got a new one it helped to relocate my transducer but i still see the problem when it is too bumpy on the way out. Tight lines to all.

@@Reel2ReelOutdoors ...alright, I'm on the boat and the thru-hull is disconnected and my Garmin Striker 7dv does have a transom mounted transducer. we are thinking about upgrading to a Garmin 1242xsv chartplotter/rador combo and of course you have to buy the transducer separately. The come in many different styles, multiple frequencies, low, mid and high chirp....any idea of what is better for higher speeds?
