I neglected my jujube without water for the entire year and the branches all dried and dead and I knew it was dead for sure. However, in the beginning of this year I started giving it water and amazingly, it is alive. It is the most viable plant out there that I know of. Every garden should have one of this plant.

For years i dreamt of getting Sugarcane but it was super expensive. Earlier this month i stumbled across a seller selling air layered Sugarcane + free shipping voucher (the seller is across the sea). She is in pot now. It'll be awhile before i get the fruit but i don't mind. Honey jar? Oh my, need to start seaching...

Does any of the jujubee self-polinated? Do you prune your jujubee at all? Thanks!
@johnnysworld-backyardorchard3 ай бұрын
I read online that jujubes are self-pollinating, meaning they will produce some fruit without another tree nearby, but they perform better with cross-pollination from another jujube. I read somewhere else that jujubes are partially self-pollinating. Thus, I believe even if you have one jujube you may get some fruit but to get a lot of fruit, it is recommended you have more than one jujubes for cross-pollination. Also, I don't really prune my jujubes as I do other fruit trees. Thank you for your questions and thank you for watching!

Is the sugar cane jujube self fertile? Do I need mother variety for it to make fruit?
@johnnysworld-backyardorchard2 ай бұрын
I read somewhere that "Sugarcane is a cross-pollinating species although selfing occurs at low levels." So it definitely does much better if you have another jujube close by. You can cross pollinate with another jujube variety. Thank you for your questions and thank you for watching!

@@johnnysworld-backyardorchard thank you so much for your reply. I just got a li jujube. I’m still very confused about fruiting time. Some websites say January to March, others late summer to early fall. When I lived in California, jujubes were everywhere. I am in Atlanta area now and don’t see them at all. Should I expect them to fruit in atlanta?

@@ForTheWin2007yes. Got a few fruits last year (first year in the ground). Have a bunch of fruit this year (second year in the ground). It was a bare root tree, 4 feet tall, Li variety. Got the tree online from Isons nursery.

The picture at 0:40 is not the real GA-866. GA-866 has an ellipsoid shape, where the two ends are smaller than the middle part. I have a four-year-old GA-866 and it's the best variety that I have tasted: GA-866, Li, Lang, Shanxi, Honey jar, Sugar cane. See kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpOcfXV8Z6ynkNU

Why certain varieties does not have seeds. I have Thai jujube. It is large as the Li jujube and harvest, you don't have to wait to turn red or brown. You can eat them green sweet and foamy texture. I've grown them from seeds. It is 25 ft tall, not too much thorn. I pickle them while green, last several months in the refrigerator. The more water, the more bigger than the Li jujube.
