@kazakukogalniceanu2600 it's been a while; the results were not encouraging. Things always seem more achievable when watching someone with talent. I won't give up because I do enjoy it, but reality can be a bitter pill. I wish you continued success in your work. God bless.

Just wanted to say that I value these tips and supplies so much. I started practicing and bought some very cheap things to start with. When I wanted to get more serious I found your video and bought the brushes and water pan you suggested and I can see such a huge difference! The brushes glide so smoothly and the paint is amazing! I'm definitely going to continue investing in some of these suggestions as I progress. It'll be scanning your other videos because I'm looking for some good detail brushes.

🌸Hi Allison! I am definitely still trying to retrain my brain for watercolor. It cannot be approached the same as acrylic or oils - it’s a whole new ball game! My frustration has been the blending of colors that I didn’t intend to blend, the loss of white spaces & not being able to paint over my mistakes (like oils & acrylics). Practice practice practice- watercolor takes practice- the more I do it the more I realize I need to. I have become much more “thoughtful” as I paint, I have to plan ahead my white areas and have patience to allow one layer to dry before jumping in with more paint! The paper recommendation is so true- it is the most important factor in my my frustration level and my satisfaction level! Using 100% cotton and wood pulp side by side is truly an eye opener! I am looking forward to learning more! Thank you for the free course- it’s so helpful! I’m looking forward to your future watercolor course!😉👍🏼

I can sympathize with your watercolor struggles!! I struggled the most with those when I started too ~ colors bleeding into each other unintentionally, not being able to cover up my mistakes, and forgetting to preserve my whites. I still struggle with these today but not as much. Like you say, practice! And YESS to planning out your painting first so you know where your whites are. It's easier to mess up when you don't have a plan! Thank you, Hannah for your ongoing support!! It means a lot to me!

Thank you for posting this! I’m still very inexperienced with watercolor. I’ve only attempted them a handful of times because they intimidate me so. My biggest frustration is buckling paper. I’m sure that has a great deal to do with the paper that I can afford not being the best quality. But maybe you have some tips on how to make the most of budget friendly papers for beginners? What we can do to minimize this? Also, what do you use to do your base drawing so that it doesn’t smudge with the water, or show through underneath the color?
@AllisonLyonArt5 жыл бұрын
Hi Cassie! I'm glad you found this video helpful! Paper buckling is a main problem with low quality papers, but there are some things you could do to help ~ tape down all sides with masking tape, try to avoid wet on wet technique (wetting paper first and then applying paint), and avoid multiple washes of paint or applying multiple wet layers of paint. And as for smudging, I try to make sure my pencil sketch is very light. If it's too dark I will erase until it's light enough. I wouldn't suggest applying a fixative since this may negatively affect your painting and paper. I hope this helps you!

Nice video! Can anyone tell me how to open the Fabriano pad itself?? I unwrapped it, but it's got some industrial strength tape or whatever around 3 sides of it. Please help. :)
@AllisonLyonArt2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you got a block. On the unwrapped side (or sometimes there’s a small area unwrapped) use an exacto knife to tear off a page. I wouldn’t take off the whole wrap as that will dismantle the whole block. First paint on your paper then take it off with the knife when you’re done. The block is used so you don’t have to tape down your paper to keep from warping when painting 😊
