Jörg Schäfer how was the exam?
@jorgschafer26896 жыл бұрын
It depends on your personal skills, abilities and expiriences. In general you can say: the 3 single test for the MCSA as far not as hard like the last one for the expert. Its really hard even with years of practise. So don't undervalue it. Currently im working on my second MCSE for productivity.

Even the pre entry level exams are not for free. With self-study you only have the exam costs. :) You can write the exam in any authorized test center or in an audit online session. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJOTgHp_fZJlg68

I am a CISSP, this test was a monster, but it was all in one shot. The MCSE and the prerequisite certifications end up with a lot more questions than the 250 CISSP questions, and the overall time is close to the 6 hour CISSP mark. Mind you, they are certifications in different practice areas, I am just comparing over all test time. I have know many MCSEs that have made me feel relieved that I only had to take the CISSP.

Hi I have the CompTIA A+ and 2 years of entry level IT exp. my current role is a Jr. SA under an SA that manages me. I am interested in getting CISSP so I can enter the realm of CS risk management....but what I am wondering is should I get MSCA as well and pair them together or is that redundant If I can just pass the CISSP and maybe throw in the CompTIA security + ... I have no mentor so any information from experienced veterans of the industry would be much appreciated.

This comment comes from someone that's been in the business for over 15 years as sysadmin. While certs are good entry point to pass through HR's pile of paperwork, to keep that great job, comes down to being able to connect A to B under pressure to solve a problem. Many of these people do not talk about this, but I have seen many MCSA, MCSE, CCNA(P)s people being let go, due to lack of expected knowledge from their certs where they had no clue of solving a problem in this industry. Moral of my story: Do not think a cert will KEEP you on that job - EXPERIENCE WILL. And for that to have, you need to continuously push yourself on the job as well as in your free time. That lack of self-motivation is what makes many people lose their job regardless of having a cert or not. And that consistency to be self-motivated is what actually delivers in this industry. No other certification can actually surpass that. Period!

While self motivation is important, I blame whoever was in charge of that newbie for not properly guiding him to the right path. In the IT world, nobody is really truly a master of all but we have our own area of expertise. It is the job of a team leader to identify each team member’s weakness and guide him so that he can get the right amount of knowledge and be more proficient. If you have seen the new IT staffs get fired all the time, I would look at you and other team members for letting them fail like that. Most of the IT stuff is not rocket science. It can be learned if someone is available to teach them or even guide them to the right resources. I think the fault is mostly on you if you knew what the problem was but failed to correct it as a team member.

Graduated uni 2019 with MS IS.. can't get a job, b/c too generalist. Looking into MS db certs, b/c I already know SQL Server & T-SQL. The problem is that MS keeps reinventing the certs. The 2016 certs are going to get replaced by their 2019 cert roadmap that re-configs the cert program to be role-based instead of technology based. So, I can either get 2016 MCSA in SQL Dev, DBA, BI ... or wait for 2019 certs to come out. But, the data certs for 2019 are basically Azure Data Engineer. It's like SQL Server is just .. gone. MS is making a big push for cloud. I'm sort of torn.

I am looking to pursue the MCSE Data management and Analytics, I have to do a few MCSA certs first but I was wondering should I do a MTA database fundamenetals before doing MCSA???
@therandomdot25634 жыл бұрын
No. MTA is very barebones stuff, and nobody in the industry cares about MTA's. When you pass an exam as part of MCSA, you are an MCP (microsoft certified professional) in that skill. EG: If you pass the T-SQL exam (which involves more T-SQL then the MTA), then you're an MCP in T-SQL. You don't get an official badge or piece of paper, but you can claim to be an MCP on your resume. Once you pass the 2016 SQL Server Development exam (the other exam for the MCSA in SQL Server Development), then you get the MCSA. After you have an MCSA, you pick an additional MCSE elective exam to take, pass it, and then you get the MCSE. If you're smart, you can just pick an elective exam that's part of another MCSA.. so when yuo're all done, you get 2 MCSA's (4+ MCP claims to fame) and an MCSE. For instance.. if you took T-SQL, SQL Dev you'd get the MCSA SQL Dev. For an elective exam for MCSE, I think you can take Power BI.. but, if you also take Excel exam, you can end up with an MCSA in BI Development (Power BI & Excel) and you'll have the MCSE, too. It's kind of designed to be like college, where you go "if I just take a few more classes, I'll have a minor, so might as well."

I happen to be one of those "completely new to IT" people. I'm not sure how to learn all of this. Can you elaborate more on what you were saying a little after 2:10? Like...what are "comp t certifications"...and what's an 'A+' and how do you get these things? I'm an extreme beginner and I have no idea where to start.
@AD-oc3kq7 жыл бұрын
Otsdrs else CompTIA certifications are like entry level certifications that are really good when starting out in IT. The A+ is the certification showing that you know the basics (hardware design & software configurations). The A+ is split into two test, the 220-901 that deals with learning the hardware components of computers, and the 220-902 is the software portion. A good pace to start is Professor Messer. He has videos here on KZbin going over everything on the A+ exam. He's thorough and insightful. It would also be wise to pick up a book about the A+ as well, such as the ExamCram book. There practice exams, flash cards, and lot of resources online for these certifications. These exams can be taken at any time, but the do cost a good amount of money (but you can get discounts). Do your research and study. If you need more help the CompTIA subreddit is very helpful.

Yeah, especially since nobody in the industry cares about the MTA. The MTA is just very rudimentary stuff. A person can take an exam for an MCSA, and list themselves as an MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional) in that instead, and it would carry more weight. EG: MTA in T-SQL is so basic it won't get someoen a job using T-SQL. But, taking the MCSA exam for T-SQL involves more stuff, and person can say they're MCP in T-SQL (even if they don't take the SQL Server Dev exam to finish the MCSA in SQL Server Development).

The MTA is a standalone cert. and is not a prerequisite for MCSA or MCSE. It's basically an intro into fundamentals and is a good starting point for beginners. You can go straight to MCSA if you're comfortable, and also important is MCSA is a prereq to MCSE.

That depends on which MCSA are you trying to get. I got my MCSA: Windows Server 2012 and MCSA: Office 365 study materials mostly from CBTNuggets and the official Exam Ref book. Recently I got my MCSA: Windows 10, but most of the study materials were books. And now I'm going for the MCSE: Cloud platform and Infrastructure and is between Pluralsight and Microsoft's OpenEdx.

First you have to decide if you want to go for the 2012/2014 MCSA (Which is focused on a on premise SQL mostly) or go for the 2016 SQL MCSA (Which is focused more on a Azure cloud-based SQL). I would recommend 2016 for a future-proof certification. For the MTA and MCSA there is no renewal (They are valuable until the software/OS for which you got certified is around). MCSE used to have an every 3 years renewal process but that have changed a couple months ago. Now for you to get most MCSE's you only need to pass 1 exam (Of many) and every year you need to pass another one from the same list to maintain that specific certification.
