In this video, we take a look at some interesting stories that some researchers believe not only have a basis in truth, but which may be shockingly ancient.

My favourite part about Pleiades myth is that it is implied that human always keep track of the constellation before the (possible) dimming of the seven star, you cannot say something disappear unless you noticed its existence in the first place. The way I see it Pleiades myth shows that human are always fascinated by celestial bodies and like to keep track of it, and well we still do it we are still fascinated by stars, we still love observing it.

We know for a fact oral histories DO change, because we have oral stories that were later written down, such as the Torah and the Illiad, which we can compare to archaeological fact to see the changes.

Genesis is a book so old it had to be retold through Moses because it wasn't accurately written down till then. Genesis was also viewed as a accurate historical record by many pagan nations too.

Nice video M. LaViolette. I'm skeptical about the Aborigines' remembering of a great flood. The rise in sea-level after the last Ice Age took a very long time and would have gone unnoticed. Every culture has flood stories because people need to live near water (even in the desert where there can be deadly flash floods e.g. the city of Petra in Jordan). For a flooding event to be noticed, it would have to occur quickly like the seasonal flooding patters found all over the world.

Do not underestimate the permanence of singing and dancing a story to a song. The memorization of movement, the appearance of the dance, and the words sung help reinforce each other. So despite the centuries the story remains remarkably intact. And quite frankly, it wouldn't surprise me if such ways of remembering old stories had become lost in Western Civilization by the time the Medieval period came around. Even when dancing and music is taken out of the equation rhyme and meter still help reinforce memory of telling stories. Looking at you Homer...

Stefan Milo did a video similar to this. Check it out if this interested you. Its more of an anthropological take on the topic.

What gives you the authority to speak for an entire people group? "Sioux" is as much a slur as "slav" is. My mother is Lakota-Sioux and my father is Kashubian Polish, and neither of them take offense to either terms, in fact they and I take great pride in them.
