My 76 year old elderly mom is the exact kind of Kamala voter Hasan talks about in this vid who is afraid to put a Harris/Walz sign in her yard because magats are inherently unhinged and violent. We moved to the suburbs in Connecticut over the summer. Before we moved, I checked the last few elections and it's a left leaning area by some margin (60/30). But around September a bunch of people started decking their houses out in Trump gear. Big banners, flags, the whole works. But there were no Harris signs anywhere. A week later, we put out a yard sign for Harris/Walz. Nothing big. We're quite a bit to the left of the Dems, so its not like we're super enthused. I caught someone fucking with our sign a few days later and aggressively shooed him off my property. Since then a shitload of Kamala signs have gone up. Like more than half the neighborhood. And our direct next door neighbor, an elderly couple in their 80s, gave us some fresh baked bread and thanked us for making the neighborhood feel safe. There may actually be a shy Kamala vote. I wouldn't have believed it until I saw how things are in the suburbs.

What I find extremely concerning about trump voters is that he is openly in favor of authoritarian policies and runs his campaign with some of the most overtly racist people in the country, meaning that for a trump voter those things are at minimum not dealbreakers. I technically qualify as a quiet Kamala voter. I'm sure conservatives think I'm a raging liberal and would assume that's who i voted for but in reality, if my state hadn't turned purple with so many northerners moving here, i would have voted green. The Old Testament, ok. But I am convinced many American Christians today could learn so much from the New Testament. All the hate, vengefulness and Pharisee-style religious hypocrisy has made it almost irrecognisable from what is actually written in that book. Preaching radical pacifism, modesty/poverty and egalitarianism in America today will get you a lot of bile and requires a lot of courage. Not saying the Church in all of its forms hasn't caused a tremendous lot of suffering or the Bible should carry some moral authority but some of what that hippie Jesus allegedly said is still very relevant to this day and to have some quotes back in hand to confront these hucklers with is great fun and probably not a bad method to get these people to doubt their bigoted worldviews.
