How times have changed for me. In 2020 for my 60th birthday I had planned a vacation to Bali and Australia. A lot of it was going on my CC to be paid off by overtime at a later date. Then, we all know what happened and it was cancelled. Fast forward to now. I have booked a cross Canada train trip and luxury hotel stays next year for my 65th. I have not travelled anywhere since I was in my 30's so basically it will be the trip of a lifetime. I have a fully funded sinking fund for a business class flight to the east coast, hotels, train tickets and extra. I must mention that I have no debt, a good emergency fund and retirement investments.

I’m a flighty attendant so pretty much a professional traveler and I’m 💯 with George! I always take the laundry bag and use it to collect my dirty clothes. I NEVER mix my clean clothes with my dirty clothes while traveling and I also can’t stand my shoes to not be bagged (or I use shower caps on the bottom of them)!

1) Don't rent a hotel for friends unless they pay you up front. I've been burned too many times. 2) Be aware of resort fees, parking fees, wifi fees, etc. when selecting a hotel. Surprising, I've found luxury hotels tend to nickel and dime you more. 3) Bring refillable water bottles. Spending $5 for a bottle of water adds up. 4) Getting a room with a kitchen, or staying at a hotel with complimentary breakfast can be a huge savings. 5) Most importantly, budget for extra spending so you can relax! I normally have a problem spending $15 on a cocktail, but it's not the end of the world. Just go for it 1 week out of the year.

I traveled for years for work. Stayed in Hilton branded hotels (work payed). The more expensive the hotel, the less you get without paying. The Garden Inn gets you coffee in the lobby and free breakfast. The Hilton branded property you pay for everything.

So happy to have Lindsey back! But her mic needs to be on all the time. Her laugh is GOLD!!! Also driving two days to spend a week with my family at my parents house and doing just a few local touristy things and the trip is still around $1000!! Also I’m for sure a total planner where I research what we can do and eat and how much for each but then just let them all play out as they happen. I for sure want slow mornings lol.

Traveled from Colorado to Tennessee for the Total Money Makeover this year. Ended up driving to Illinois before and after just to sleep at grandparent's house to save money on hotel stays. Definitely was a trip, but was incrediblely refreshing to my soul and motivating for my financial journey. Can't wait to return next time and make it a vacation once I'm in better financial shape! :D

I've kept each vacation expenses in a spreadsheet for our family of four. With our net worth increases comes an increase with each vacation. Back then it was driving to National Parks and camping in a tent and cooking our meals and sandwiches. Now we are flying more and teens who eat more and desire more experiences which may cost more. But I guess the memories and experiences are priceless for us. I was raised poor and vacations was not in the vocabulary.

I love doing this because people rarely do it and I just imagine the happy smile on someone's face when they get to my room. Last family trip to Myrtle Beach we saved on Money and cooking by heading to Costco and grabbing some fresh fruit, breakfast and lunch items and a few of their premade meals that can be thrown in the oven. We still ate out about half of the dinners but we didn't have to "cook" dinner. We were happy and saved quite a bit of money.

I always bring a trash bag or I take the hotel laundry bag for dirty clothes to bring home. When we plan a vacation we save for everything and we do everything on that vacation that we want to do including eating out. We take one a year and we go big. The vacation that was ok but very expensive to eat and sight see was Niagara Falls Canada. I went, I saw and did everything there was to do and I have no need to ever go back, it was my least favorite vacation we have done.

It was my first time doing an all-inclusive resort. I had an absolutely wonderful time. Me and my wife spoke about returning back to the Maldives in the future. One week was not enough. Next time we will do a week and a half. The island resort I went to is called Siyam World. I highly recommend it. 🙂👍🏽

I haven't taken a vacation in a bit because of debt payoff. I started planning my next vacation and realized how much prices have gone up on things. My last few vacations have been road trips which end up cheaper. So adding a flight and rental car has definitely put this vacation as the most expensive vacation I've planned and that's with 9 days at a resort paid for by my boss for my 10 year anniversary at work. Doing a full two weeks, so the remainder is hotel stays, plus rental car, flight, activities, and food.

Experiences over stuff: Just paid cash for a 17 day vacation in a Europe for my family of three. Amsterdam, Paris, London and Belgium. Delta paid for my tickets (company travel points). Everything else was cash saved and much bargain hunting. Didn’t have to scrimp on meals or destination sights. Came back $3k under budget with that cash still in the savings account. Wouldn’t trade it for anything. Daughter is 16 and we don’t have that much easy time with her before we’re broke paying for college 😅 Don’t EVER rent a car in Europe (we didn’t). Public transportation is easy and cheap. Parking will kill you (one hotel was $40/night).

Living in Europe now because of the military. We’re literally on our way home from Croatia as I type this. We’ve been traveling around when we can and I will 100% say every single time we don’t plan ahead our restaurants and we decide to just find something, it’s crap. Then we’ve wasted money and it makes me so mad. Food is a big experience in traveling and experiencing cultures. I want it to count and I’m done wasting money on terrible restaurants. We’ve saved money and eaten wonderfully when we research. I’ve decided to be the travel agent and let spontaneity happen with snacks or experiences as we’re doing the walking around/exploring bit. 😊
