I have SO many stupidly ridiculous stories, inventions, movie ideas, etc. that I started and never finished. One night I had an idea for a flying machine thingy that you could sit in- and I spent all night calculating weight, how many grams one balloon could lift, etc. It's crazy.

I'm so glad I watched this video. I used to write my thoughts every day. I remember being less stressed. Maybe writhing is a way of venting. If you have anger issues take them out on a piece of paper, it certainly worked for me. Going to the coffee shop 2-3 times a week by myself, is very relaxing as well.

I get the best ideas for my art from being tired because I think more spontaneously and I haven't got the energy to judge if my ideas are too weird or impossible to do. Obviously it's not healthy (especially for school days) but doing it on a Saturday night to think of ideas works for me. :)

I so totally agree with this - that's why blogging is so inspirational. I blog twice a day, once with a book review, and once with a word search puzzle, or with a solution to that puzzle. This habit I can keep going even during my busiest periods of work as a copy-editor and back-of-book indexer. Not only am I comforted by this regularity, but also it helps make me realize where my goals and aspirations lie, which is most definitely not just in the daily grind.

Travel. And I don't mean going very far. Sitting in a bus, listening to music, staring out of the window, I tend to be more inspired for some reason. Also, in the past, I was always the most creatively energized by math class? Which is strange. But I wrote so much in my math classes, it's quite silly.

I don't really have a routine, as my schedule is not very uniform, but in the last few years, I got used to exercising as often as possible in the afternoon after school, then listening to relaxing music, before I go on working. I'm in school, but I'm currently taking part in two musical theatre productions, having a main role in one. It's more than stressful. So I need this routine to calm down a little^^

My routine when in a process of writing: Right after lunch or dinner, sometimes both, go to a the field (I live in the edge of a city), always the very same path. It takes about 40 minutes to complete a round in that area. Sometimes I just walk as a robot, still thinking about the actual topic, but sometimes I observe a plant or a bird. Then I try to identify when I am already at home. It is so great, helps relaxing. Sometimes I take camera too, and shoot the same landscape in an always diefferent mood. It is fun also then to see those pictures and compare the changing nature of the very same landscape. I found these 40 minutes walk is enough to relax but not too long to put your actual work off...

When I get stuck partway through writing a story, I'll force myself to write something, ANYTHING, to get through that particular passage. I can always go back later & revise. Alternatively, I'll take my camera for a long walk & toggle into photographic mode. Sometimes the best way to solve a creative problem is to leave it alone for a while. The subconscious never stops working on it.

I don't personally think that one has to take advantage of certain tricks in order to be creative. I believe that the creation process is all about observing things around you and keep your mind constantly active, because in this you are actively capable of abstract associations. You don't need any kind of habit or routine for that, which can actually drain away the mood and make you not want to do that anymore. Well, at least this is the way it works for me ^^
