Learn Catalan with Easy Catalan! In this video we’re in Tortosa to ask people what their hobbies are. We will also ask them what kinds of activities they would recommend us for Tortosa or the Ebro Delta.
If you’re paying attention, you will see: the Ebro river, the cathedral of Tortosa, the castle of La Suda and many other corners of the city.

Hola, Cris! Gràcies pel teu comentari. El nostre objectiu és mostrar el català del carrer, amb tots els avantatges i inconvenients que comporta l'espontaneïtat de les entrevistes. Al mateix temps, Easy Catalan també té una voluntat didàctica, i per tant aprofitem tot el marge que ens deixen les obres i els recursos de referència per a reflectir en els nostres subtítols la llengua que se sent en els vídeos. Així, en el cas de "tenda" ens hem acollit a la segona accepció de l'entrada corresponent del DIEC, mentre que en el cas de "disfrutar" ens hem emparat en els criteris de l'ésAdir sobre el llenguatge col·loquial català. Esperem que continuïs gaudint dels nostres vídeos i que els ensenyis a molta gent!

(Diguin el que diguin els diccionaris sempre hauríem de dir 'botiga') Pel que fa a l'ésAdir aneu amb molt de compte, fan amb la llengua el que els rota. Great video! One question, how come you translated "esta guai" to "es bonic" in minute 2:33?

Guay is a Spanish word that has been co-opted into Catalan. If you look at the subtitles, the person doing the subtitling systematically gives native Catalan alternatives. For example, if a person says més o menos, it is subtitled més o menys.

​@@Aberjan is right. 'Guai' isn't a accepted word (it doesn't appear in the regular dictionary). And the use of the verb 'estar' in this case isn't correct (it has to be 'ser'). Yes, we could have left 'guai' because it is in fact a very common word in spoken Catalan and appears frequently in some colloquial Catalan dictionaries. But we try and give you more correct Catalan answers and vocabulary so that is why we translated it to "és bonic" 😄

This is not a standard dialect of the language, is it? The way they pronounce the vowels and the j in jo and ja is pretty particular and different from the central variety. Plus a woman was pronouncing x as ch in the beginning of a word. By the way, it was still pretty easy to understand this amazing language!

It's as correct as Barcelona dialect, just another way of pronouncing.

Yes, Catalan is a romance language and pretty mixed betwen french and spanish like Occitane. If you know a bit of both languages you might understand catalan well ! ^^ If you want to recive information about catalan it's my mother tonge with spanish, I can help you!

I'm actually planning on learning the other three popular languages, those being Romanian, Italian, and Portuguese. The awsome part is I already how to speak a little in those languages lol! After that, I'll be learning Catalan, just for the hell of it XD

Em sona prou familiar com parla la gent. Será per el fet de parlar un catalá occidental. Estic molt més acostumat a sentir aixó pel fet de viure al sud de la provincia de València. Normalment em costa més comprendre el catalá oriental i sobre tot el balear. Però , clar, aixó sempre depén de ho que escoltes normalment. El castellá de Andalucía també em costa a voltes comprendre-ho.
