As an Indonesian, i used to have this global mindset of 'American dream' where you can get everything you want. Great education system, healthcare, public facilities. High salary job, unlimited connections to the people from all over the world, etc. Nowadays, i am grateful that i grow up and live as Indonesian in Indonesia. USA right now, on their way to ruin. From gender problems, lgbtq+, students debt, very expensive healthcare, racial issue, and many more. Moneywise, USA still offer a lot of opportunities than my country, but a lot of other aspect of life, like safety and happiness, Indonesia is way better. This is my own opinion though. I hope, with power and influences that USA has, they'll soon come to their sense and doing better in the future.

as indonesian myself, i also glad i lived and grow up in Indonesia, its just like living dream if we lived as middle class people. While USA only benefit for people who lived on high class. Housing and health care problem I think is the main problem there. Why do people on there preferred for being homeless even though they still got job with decent salary? is it because of housing regulation on there? I'm glad in Indonesia we do have "kos-kos an" (I dont know how to said it in English) but its basically sharing house place that's helps student or worker who lived on different side of area to sleep. We could paid it daily or monthly it depends on the owner itself. its mostly affordable for people in here and we dont have to deal with bank tax or any third-parties company related.

Public facilities and USA are phrases that do not go in tandem I'd say. The decline of USA is more of a capitalism problem and less of a "social issue" problem, based on what I observe. A lot of people in the USA are so afraid of anything that can even be suspected as "socialism" that they would rather leave things unsolved / unattended.

@@MrRainierSaluActually, I've heard a lot of Americans are "jumping ship" so to speak and are leaving America all together to be citizens in Europe or the UK or Asian countries that will not accept them but will accept them for work and their taxes owed. It's very interesting times being in America. It is true the lower class continue to get lower and the rich continue getting richer, and we do have constant propaganda thrown at us by our own people and government officials, however, America is still a powerful place for a reason. Yes it may be a bit difficult living here and making a good living, but if you get a little luck and the right timing, you can do anything successful and live a good life here. I'd take living in the US over anywhere else right now. Maybe in the near-future I'd like to move to Japan or Korea, but those countries are flawed. Indonesia itself is also very flawed in the legal and justice system.

Honestly my view of america has changed a lot through the years, when i was a teenager, i saw america as this utopian like country where everything is modern and far better than any countries and all the people are very smart and beautiful lol, but now as i grow older and with social media and stuff, i realized that america is not all that great, they actually have a lot of flaws and problems that developing countries don't really have, talking about the healthcare system, the homeless people, the racism etc

Do you seriously think that Europe is not racist also and have homeless people. the only reason European countries have “free healthcare “ is because America subsidizes most of their military spending also America leads the world in medical innovations

I agree with you, people in the U.S tend to buy tons of medicines to take care of yourself when get ill just for not going to the hospitals because of the expensive treatments. Also i got you about racism, cops in the U.S kill many black people for no reason at all.. at least i have seen a lot of News affirming a black person dies just because of their color by cops. Also homeless people, especially in NYC, if the U.S was that great it wouldn't have to happen right? Also a lot of teenagers think "america" is the best, mocking about other countries and saying rude stuff and acting disrespectful. Sadly i have an image that all teenagers are like this, super annoying and toxic, i have this image cause i've ever known someone nice and who respect others and other cultures. They feel so smart even not knowing good geography.

There's definitely homeless people in Europe, though you don't see them in large numbers like you do here. And racism in Europe is more open and direct. In America, even if someone is racist, they usually won't show it, because of social stigma and also laws. Whereas in Europe on the other hand, they don't see racism as a bad thing, so no one is gonna gang up on you if you say or do something racist. It's also easier to be racist when the government has your back. The UK is maybe the only exception.

I think how someone will experience the USA will vary greatly by region, socioeconomics, religion, race, education, and other factors. Most Americans have nothing to do with Hollywood and what is produced is often very generic and non-realistic. However, it’s primarily meant to be entertaining not necessarily educational. Some people don’t like strangers asking them a lot of personal questions because they are suspicious of the motives.

I find Haley to be more honest, knowledgeable, culturally-sensitive and humbler than other Americans who’ve made an appearance on the channel. Such positive vibes from her. Well, Violin is also more worldly than most Indonesians so it’s good to see someone like her representing us. Unlike her, many Indonesians consume American pop culture, crave for American modern products, and secretly long for American lifestyle but won’t admit it because they were taught by their religion to hate anything that’s not part of their religious community.

Blue collar job workers in the US are paid really well, so there's really no need to have a college degree and accumulate so much student loan. For example, garbage truck drivers are paid an average of $80K, long haul truck drivers are paid over $100K, electricians & plumbers are also paid around $80K.

When people think of the USA, they should use the example of Russia. A Russian living in Siberia has very little in common with a European Russian. In Wisconsin, our state capital, Madison, is quite a bit like California as far as the people living there, but the rest of the state is much more conservative. It makes it very difficult for any American to speak for the whole country, or for a foreigner to completely grasp the scope of it. For example, there are videos on KZbin of German POW's being transferred to the states during WWII, and suddenly coming to the realization that they had zero chance of winning that war. As far as education, people here in Wisconsin, aside from office work, work in farming, logging, foundries, papermaking, etc., so we need welders, electricians, lumber inspectors, machinists, millwrights to fix things like cheesemaking equipment, mechanics, etc. None of these careers require a four-year degree. But our system keeps pushing everyone to go to university to get degrees and too many people pick majors that there aren't a lot of jobs for. They end up taking a lower paying job they didn't need a degree for and have trouble paying off their student loans. This is what's primarily wrong with our education system.

People need to know about the wealth inequality in the United States, which has been growing since the 1980s. For people with low incomes, it can be much harder to attain the "American Dream" than for middle class or wealthy Americans. And even for the middle class, having a high standard of living is much harder than it used to be. Educational costs are high, housing costs are high, health costs are high -- even the prices for used cars (essential for living in most places in the U.S.) are high. Mental health problems and drug addiction are becoming more common. All of these issues tend to challenge younger people and (some) racial minorities more than other groups. U.S. life expectancy is actually declining. Consequently, when some Americans hear that people from other countries want to come here to boost their education or gain more wealth, it can lead to some resentment that people from elsewhere are coming to compete with them for jobs and education, limiting their opportunities to get ahead in their own country. Most people will welcome foreigners as individuals, but there is a growing sense that immigration may be making life harder for people already here. This is not unique to the U.S. btw -- there is growing resistance to immigration in Europe, as well.

My uncle and I were just talking about how we think a lot of the problems stem from a lack of financial literacy. That part of “education” doesn’t get talked about as much. He and I have both made our share of mistakes but we grew from them. Some people don’t. For example, one reason used vehicles are so high for some people is because of the interest rate they are paying which doesn’t even go to paying for the car. I had a cousin who years ago was paying the same monthly note amount for her clunker that I was paying for new car because of the high interest rate. Whenever I have a loanI always make additional payments directly to the principal because it saves me money over the life of the loan by changing the principal to interest ratio more quickly in my favor. I’m sure banks hate me.

I do actually curious about tipping culture in US but they dont talk about that in video. why tips culture is a thing in US? I know its to give respect for their workers service as whole but isn't that making middle class - low class people hard to "treating themselves" after having work to just enjoying meal without thinking they have to PAID more than they should have. in Asian we mostly doing tipping for kindness purpose, its not as burden or anything. (also sorry for my bad English, its just my opinion as my curiosity about some problem in USA that we dont have)

Kinda funny though, after a lifetime of being told to fit in, the moment you start job hunting, everyone wants to know what makes you different. Talk about a mixed message, right?

I mean, I love Japan and Japanese culture, and I'm not even Japanese, but I will say that if I ever were to live there I'd want to live outside any major cities. The problem with that would be that a lot of the really solid jobs are found within the cities not the smaller towns. Another problem Japan has currently, that I hear from Japanese friends, is that they're fixing their justice system but it is going to take a long time. There was a case involving a girl who abused younger, underage, girls and boys and was forced to go into the sex offender registry, but then was released from custody off good behavior after she spent 4 years behind bars. Not too soon after being released, really only months, she went out and did it again and they then caught her and put her behind bars for 15 years. A lot of Japanese criticized the system for allowing to let her walk freely when she hadn't really learned her lesson and hadn't paid her dues to those girls she brutalized and sexually assaulted. A lot of problems in that country right now.

"Cause if you don't have a degree? What are you gonna do if you don't have money." This is a very old and bad way of thinking. Trade jobs are the way to go. In fact, I'd recommend those more than going to universities. No debt. Trade jobs are hurting for workers because of the mindset of go to "college to better you're life." They also generally have very good pay. The only time I'd ever recommend higher learning is when you're going for a STEM field job.

I agree for the most part. I went to college mostly because my parents and most of my older relatives went to college. I grew up middle class and wasn’t even thinking about the “better life”. My mindset was this is what people from my family do so I need to do this. I never thought about not going as an option. I was never actually told I had to go, but I knew I had to go if that makes sense. The only question was where.

@@anndeecosita3586Trust that it is better for having a degree. At least when it comes to better paid jobs in a administrative level. Do you want to have that promotion and be making a 100,000 a year salary and being a high-level manager? Do you want to be working your way up the ranks much faster than without a degree? Then you'd want that degree for the chance of making more money. Statistically proven that those who come out of college and DON'T stay at home with their parents have a much tougher time financially finding work in their studied field. I went to school to study writing because I've always been a very strong writer. It helped to strengthen my resolve in wanting to get published and wanting to get stronger as a fiction writer. I'm still writing and still looking for an agent to get my books out there.

@porainessemundao, depending on you if how you feel not confident or not either, if people tell you to dislike US then you can follow them or not that your option, not ours. But let me fill you in on the United States. The average American does not have ill will toward every nation in the world, but there are always those few who despise certain nations for no good reason. In fact, many young adults and students have a strong desire to go abroad in order to broaden their horizons and experience other cultures. In the United States, you are likely to encounter people of many various cultural backgrounds. Examples of states with particularly high levels of diversity are New York City and California. Although my birthplace was the Philippines, I now call Texas home. Texas is home to a sizeable Hispanic population. We all ignore the United States government because we have an extreme dislike for many of its governments. The United States has both positive and negative features. We do not hate Brazil that we do adore Brazil. You mentioned that the United Nations, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and other international organizations all dislike the BRICS countries. They hate the United States too, and you know that those people and their governments exist.

I was frankly surprised to read that people tell you the U.S. is the "enemy" of Brazil. In fact, the U.S. has never had a conflict with Brazil in its history. In fact, the U.S. and Brazil share similar histories as American countries that began as colonies and are confronting legacies of slavery and racism. We are more alike than we are different. Moreover, Americans generally have no ill-will toward people in other countries and primarily want to be left alone to live their lives the best that they can. The U.S. had a short period of imperialism but that was more than 100 years ago, and it has nothing to do with current-day life in the U.S. I think most people in the U.S. would value good relations with Brazil and the other BRICS countries, but we are daunted by what appears to be growing hostility from them.

I think it's a fair question... it's just asking if they've ever visited the country before. Lots of people form strong and mostly untrue opinions about the US from media they've consumed and have never actually visited here to prove if what they believe is actually true. I can definitely see the parallels of how it could be a difficult question or touchy subject, but to me, it's not an insulting question.

As the American woman in the video said, there are a huge number of beautiful natural places to see in the U.S. and many national, state and local parks to visit. Our natural beauty stands up well to most other countries. Plus, our cities have excellent restaurants, museums, concerts and sports venues. And we have a ton of theme parks, amusement parks, etc. The U.S. is full of distinctive regional cultures and foods, varied scenery and friendly people. Not sure why anyone visiting here would be in "boring offices" though.
