i know this is a joke but: funky socks, not skinny jeans (more of a straight leg), preferably a funky but cool button up, but anthing with a fun patern is great! if you have no paterned shirts, any bright color is good! for shoes: either sneakers or boots, nothing fancy!

I know how challenging and frustrating it can be when thinking about "type." What has helped me is to shift that mindset from type to what kind of stories I want to tell that way it doesn't box me into something specific which can create so much anxiety and stress. Show up to the auditions as you. Let the casting decide from that point on.

I absolutely LOVED this video. I remember the days of prepping for an audition SO FAR OUT and now it's like "oh, yeah, I'm singing this...right?". I know it's been a year since you made this video, and I hope you're more confident and excited about auditioning! When you get to NYC (if that's the path for you), you can go to ECC Dancer calls and get to dance FIRST if that's more your thing! Also, if you haven't worked with an accompanist before your audition, try PianoTrax! I love them and they've bailed me out SO many times. Another thing is that even here in NYC, the accompanists get you. If you tell them you haven't run this piece with a piano yet, they'll often adjust their play style to give you your melody line a little bit for the first bars or so and are super, super great. Break all the legs in future endeavors!

Not necessarily. It usually depends on whether or not the show has a lot of dancing in it, and even then some characters don't need to dance. I'd recommend starting with community theatre or school productions, and see how you like that. I've been to auditions with no dancing, some theatre companies just teach a small combination, and some even choreograph a whole song. It doesn't matter how advanced you are if you, but it is helpful to be able to move well. (It is really helpful to be able to dance though. If you were looking to get started dancing I would recommend starting with a ballet class for a good technical foundation and then look into some jazz classes. Some dance studios even offer musical theatre dance classes!)

They should tell you if there will be a dancing audition. And they will basically teach you a dance that won’t be too hard unless it’s a really dancey musical with intricate choreography

Same. It's always hard finding a great audition song let along an entire collection of songs. What I find helps me is just to start with one song that I really love and use it for every audition. It might not be perfect or exactly the right style of at least it allows you the opportunity to go to the audition and show up for that open call.

I remember the first musical I did was set in the 1910s and I got the lead girl which was a child. I was in *fifth grade*. I was so confused when I got my script with jemima Potts on it. But it was fun and got me into musical theater which is the *best*. I'm so happy that I got that role and launched my way of life in a whole new way!

My school auditions are everyone sitting on risers, 1 person standing up and singing the part of the song we all have to sing (oh my god Hakuna Matata is low-key getting annoying at this point) and then we do the dance we learned and then get our names called for callbacks. I had my first audition today and almost passed out. I don't really think I got a big role but at this point I already have such a low self-esteem that it isn't shocking. I'll probably update this when the cast list comes out to see if maybe, just maybe one of the roles I wanted.
