One thing I always do for auditions because I’m solely telling them the truth: “Hello ! My name’s , and seconds/minutes before stepping into this room I was really nervous !” And I always seem to get a laugh out of the audition panel. If they still laugh I give an adlib of how it feels to be in front of the panel during the audition - it usually is me feeling less anxious because it’s happening.

De Generals of course! If it’s something that you’re truly passionate about. Even though it may be true for most of us, during the audition, we shouldn’t tell the directors that “acting is our passion/dream”. They already would assume so. Technically you don't actually need a resume so you could say you don't need to make one but if you don't have one it looks very unprofessional and they may not cast you I would recommend just putting your training that you have even if it's just drama lessons or something from school also if you've been in any school plays put those down too also make sure that you have a good headshot some iPhones allow you to blur out the background so it looks professional (this was a bit long but I hope it helped)

I went into an audition expecting just to stare my name and songs,sing my little ditties and leave- but when the director asked me : Tell is about yourself- I actually relaxed and was surprised! I think I might have smiled and said happily “OH, that’s nice!- or thought it. I shared briefly- my personal family situation, my job- and pulled to back to why I’m auditioning- because I enjoy watching my kids and supporting them in theatre- I wanted to have fun and audition and be in plays too. I did make the call backs and later after opening night - cast party - I asked the director what he saw in my audition and he said I had so much joy and excitement “I don’t give a d*mn, you’re gonna like me attitude, and I have fun in my audition- seemed like a lot of fun!” That helped him make his decision. I’m contrast, the next show I auditioned for my confidence was low and I didn’t have the same interacting with the directors - they just stopped me halfway through and said that’s all. So it does help to have that confidence!

@anayaweick79644 жыл бұрын
I actually have always loved this question. I usually stick an “about me” on my resume to take up space, so they usually ask something different, but my go to is “My name is Anaya Weick, I’m 14, I have 2 brothers and a sister, and my favorite sport is Laser Tag.” Absolutely random stuff about me, but it flows nicely when said energetically and with a huge smile on my face.
@marisaparis34433 жыл бұрын
I'm 14 too and have real bad social anxiety so I was wondering if you have any tips for that coming from someone my age?
@anayaweick79643 жыл бұрын
@@marisaparis3443 A quick disclaimer in that I do not have social anxiety, I just have nerves and they’re not the same thing. This is just how I went about it. When I started, I was sharing things that people could observe about me. “I’m in middle school (well, high school now), I don’t like short-sleeved shirts, etc.” Once you do that, it’s easier to share more, stranger things people cannot just observe about you. “I collect lego sets,” or “I work at a sandwich shop.” Try to stay away from things that don’t influence your personality, make you look bad, or give off too much information. “I carry a backpack because I’m severely allergic to peanuts and can’t leave home without an epipen” does not influence their opinion of you. “I have failed 7 tests in my life” doesn’t sound good, and it makes you look self-conscious. “Whenever I eat a tomato, I get an awful nosebleed.” is too much information. Save those for when you develop a relationship with the directors/cast. Just say something fun about yourself that shows the directors you are a personable, likable individual. As for social anxiety, I know nothing I recommend can “cure” it, but I do something called “The 20 seconds.” You force all your confidence possible into the first 20 seconds of your audition/presentation, and by second 21, I’m no longer nervous. It doesn’t work for everyone, but it works for me. That’s kind of all I can recommend, but I wish you the very best of luck.

When asked this question at my first professional casting call, I revealed that I was a cowboy at heart. The casting director, unbeknownst to me, was heavily into wild west reenactment, and my revelation resulted in a lasting positive first impression and subsequent friendship.
@charliesmith42476 жыл бұрын
My acting coach said not to talk about your personal life in auditions and only talk about what acting jobs you have done, so I'm a bit confused by that. If a casting director asks you "what have you been up to recently?" what are you supposed to say? Are you supposed to just say what jobs you've done because surely they can just look at your CV for that? But then apparently you're not supposed to talk about your personal life? I'm confused :(
@alicemurray16576 жыл бұрын
Charlie Smith well, don't go into the audition and start talking about your personal life, and how your day has been. But if they ask you about yourself, talk about yourself! If you just talk about jobs your have done, they will think you're boring, and don't have a life outside of acting! Just answer the questions as they come, don't think too much about it. Hope I helped a little 😊😊

@laurawatson60013 жыл бұрын
Lol recently had an interview and confidence is key. I messed up a lot of the questions asked but I stayed calm and composed. Most importantly I looked confident. They asked me at the end have you got any questions? And I said "When do I start?" 🤔😂 Regardless of how much I thought the interview had went downhill the question I asked made him laugh and he said "I like your confidence." I ended up getting offered the job later on that day. Just have fun, worst case is that you have auditioning experience. 😊

Thanks Kurt. Love your videos. You are at home in front of the camera, and you know your stuff. I'm an actor, and I love the "Tell me about yourself" question. One story that I like to tell is how growing up in the Bronx around some pretty scary people led to my successful acting career. I make sure to tell it without bragging.

He stated he was thrown a curve when the casting director said "tell me about yourself". The question threw his preparation out the window by answering improperly. The question is asked to start a conversation with you, and want to see how comfortable you are on screen.

holy moly i didn't know that this was a common ploy at commercial auditions. i don't get this at theatre auditions often, but the first couple of commercial auditions i went to they asked me this which totally threw me off. thanks for the tips.

Ehhh...I wouldn't. They're short on time and I don't think they'd like me steering the moment in a direction they didn't choose. I'm there so that they can see if they believe I'm a good risk. Remember they're risking a lot on everyone they cast.

You just put me at ease...I love this. I always was befuddled by this question, because I didn't want to go into my day and say "I'm Jessie Blink, I'm 23 lovely weather we're having." I was always pikachu faced by this question and definitely didn't want to going on to say how long I've been acting because I didn't want to seem like a workaholic. But now I know how to chill and respond.

This EXACT question was posed to me some time ago, HOWEVER i did not realize, at the time that the person asking me would add his personal feelings into the mix, because when i answered that i had been in the military 20 plus years his face waxed over and i could tell that i was not who he wanted to have any dealings with. Then he asked me how those years could possibly translate into a role for his film and why. (Ironically, It was a military type role.) I responded that when i had my platoon it was practically all acting because i had to get these young men to do things they thought they were incapable of doing. Needless to say, i did not get the role so they gave the role to a much younger gent .
