I actually really enjoyed Bewitched and have rewatched it many times over the years, mainly because I hardly ever see Nicole Kidman in a distinct leading role, and she's simply lovely in this.

Honestly, this is the best video I've seen on youtube all year. I love your comedy and your approach to a string of pretentious and fake intelligent video essays that have come about. Thank you for making this video!

I love Bewitched. My dad was born in 47' and my mom in 51.' My family had cable television on and off, and growing up in the late 90's/2000's, and reruns were accessible. It's hard for me to watch any movie currently without putting myself behind the camera, which, I think, is good and bad. I find it hard to focus on the storytelling vs the technical aspects, but I relish the effort the cast and crew put in. Both the show and the movie and fantastic. Meta in just fine 😂 Original story telling FTW.

Love the review. Loved the film.. It was not what I was expecting but better. The most significant scene for me was the opening credits which you cannot find on KZbin likely because of music copyright. The song was "City of Love" by Persephone's Bees who do have a music video here. [watch it!] What was really unique was the way magic was performed in the film, with CGI allowing anything in a film nowadays; even back in 2005 the effects used in the film was impressive because they relied on practical effects with a small amount of CGI blended in. These are portrayed in the opening credits and it's too bad that everyone cannot see this. The portrayal of magic in this film had a most singularly unique restrained design that left you wanting to hit the rewind button to see how it was done. It was pleasurable. And this video is spot on about what the film was actually about.

I liked this. I got reminded of this movie, which I hadn't seen, and stumbled across this to kind of give me a bit more insight into the movie. I am a HUGE fan of the bewitched original (it was one of the very few queer subtext representations of its time) but when it came out, I was 17 and just wasn't down for romcoms with nicole kidman and will ferrell. Also I was like, "Bewitched as a romcom? Like what?" I do think, in retrospect, that the marketing for this also killed the interest. If they had focused less on the romcom and more on the "we actually cast a witch in this reboot of bewitch" concept, I would have dived in headfirst... but as I recall my youth, I just remember... "it has something to do with weirdly remaking bewitched, but is.... also basically bewitched if they didn't start off married..."

I remember hating this film when it came out, probably because it was my intro to Will Farrell (I liked the real witches pretending, the (rest of the) cast was great, I liked the tv reboot idea, Farrell was Too Fucking Much and brought down the entire thing). Thanks for making this, showing there's more to appreciate about the film. I might have to see it again to reevaluate.

Will Ferrell and Nicole Kidman were such an odd casting choice for this movie. Liked your take on how Bewitched was about the making of a movie within a movie and Hollywood reboots
@CultPopture3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Amanda, and yeah I think Will Ferrell's character probably needed to be played by more of a Himbo lol. Like Jon Hamm or someone hot but capable of comedy. Thanks for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed the video ☺️ please consider subscribing if you haven't already 😎

I generally agree with your analysis of Bewitched and using it as a metaphor for Hollywood's position today. . But I don't agree with one example--that the issue with Luke was that people wanted more of the same. It was that they didn't find the change in Luke's outlook to be believable. The thing with working in an existing franchise is that you have to thread the needle between something new and something old. If you use the same characters, they have to feel like the same characters, even while you try to use them to tell a different story. When it comes to stuff in the same universe, people simultaneously want the same thing AND something new. You can fail in either direction.

Appreciate this comment, thank you for speaking your mind! I think I also agree with what you're saying in general, but I felt like that balance was achieved with TLJ Luke. Thank you for watching! Please consider subscribing if you haven't already 😎

Except Star Wars fits your point in the other direction. It is as if the makers cast the "bewitch" spell on the audience and double downed on it instead of having the realization that the character does in this movie. It was made with what they wanted to be popular rather than what was popular. The hollow feeling that the character experiences is what most of the fan base feels. It did not push new boundaries except within its own series. Instead, it brought the boundaries from other mediums to the previous one.

This makes me feel old. Bewitched was utterly awful and one of a string of dreadful Ephron films. If anything is guilty of nostalgia, it is pretending that this mess of a film is some type of unearthed masterpiece. Watch more movies, bruh!

Hahahah I watch plenty of movies! Check out the rest of the channel as proof! I actually say at the start of this video that it isn't an undiscovered gem or anything like that. I'm not saying it's an unearthed masterpiece.
