100%. With much more media the attention on artists (as well as actors etc.) is more spread out than previously. Growing up in ‘90s UK Princess Diana and the Spice Girls dominated the news cycle (one or the other would feature on the front cover of tabloids), but that focus on a small number of individuals/groups couldn’t happen now as the general public have a lot more choice of what media to consume.

I listen to a lot of Bruce Springsteen and I've recently got back into listening to Taylor Swift. I think it is interesting how they both, but very differently, somehow perfectly capture the angst and simultaneous optimism of the human condition.

Bruce has a very humble and wise perspective on his monumental place in rock history; despite his own enormous talents he doesn't hesitate to admit he benefited from an industry golden age whilst fully endorsing and empathising with new generations. Springsteen fan since 77 and this is my take on it : the people who are still into music have artists like Swift, Halsey and Lana Del Ray - the rest can obsess over social media and image. History shows us which group of artists will still be making music 30 years from now.

Billy Joel compared Taylor Swift to the Beatles. Many misunderstood what he was trying to say. Taylor Swift is a great artist among many artist in our days, just like the Beatles were the best artists among others in their days. I appreciate legends giving credit to young talented artists.

The Boss and McCartney both have this same perspective of embracing good, new things. Words and music will always sound different, evolve, slam the brakes, hit the gas, experiment, become more complicated, and become more simplified. That's the beauty of expression. Bruce knows that. Curmudgeons only slow their own development and minimize their own life experiences.

I'm a dinasor. Taylor Swift is incredibly gorgeous and I'm sure extremely talented as she sells (when tickets can actually be sold..) out stadiums! I'm totally embarrassed to say I can't name one of her songs and I'm a musician that's been around a long time. Of course that's on me for not staying up with things....all on me.

I don’t think rock is gone. Music hasn’t been a priority in school. Rock to me is a young teen’s anthem. Hard to have rock music without a lot of kids learning to play.

What he said in the beginning is the most important thing. People don't cherish music the way they used to because there are so many forms of entertainment now. And once self driving cars become a thing, music will be largely dead compared to what it used to be.
