Many ultra-fine shots! - The camera doesn't matter but the individuals behind & confronted with the gear. The classical film tech is able to cope with modern and will even cope with artificial intelligence in the near future as long as inspired instead of dull men make it. I've worked with Yashica6x6, too, and many other basic musts in carefully considered photography. There's no enhencement in satisfaction if you handle with a digicam - you'll be far more spontaneous and play it by ear if you decide aperture, shutter and focus and nothing else;-)))

Great lesson for new photographers it's not the MP that makes excellent images but the photographer. You don't need the most excellent and latest cameras to create with. The camera companies need to sell cameras so people with lots of money can get the new stuff but the photographer really doesn't need all the bells and whistles to take excellent photos. Thanks

Back in the day it was a bit of a stretch for me to acquire my 5D and a few lenses. They took me through Yosemite and a few backpacking trips, taught me about digital SLRs, and didn't cost me a thing when I had to sell them. Today; my Sony mirrorless is a modern day miracle but I just bought my second Nikon DSLR because I craved the old school experience: pentaprism, long battery life, feel in hand. Oh, and price. Loved your video. Thank you.

I was looking for a 5D Mk1 when I was looking to go back into photography recently, it was the camera I wanted back when I had my brand new (then) 30D - but at the time couldn't justify buying another body. Glad I didn't, as I'd be selling it for peanuts few years after, as I did - all my kit. Bought 7D last year as it came at the right price, will probably look for a 5D, as since you mentioned it - it is 12MP, but it's a full frame, never had the opportunity - no crop, more detail, less noise and much much better image quality when compared to the old 30D, much better definition. Not bothered about being 'only' 12MP, been 'enlarging' images scanned on a - now obsolete - scanner on a 386DX 40HHz PC and processing them on 486DX 80MHz - built for graphics - with a whooping 4MB of RAM. The files were merely few megabytes each, PC barely coped and we were printing them onto canvas 10x5ft and so on. Sometimes covering walls or for billboards. Don't remember anyone complaining about 'low resolution image'...

Just found your video site. Cool...I have been a LONG time Nikon shooter. I got hyped up with the new ML camera thing and traded/sold/gave away my Nikon system and went head first into a Canon R5 and RF system. I soon found I cannot afford many RF lenses. The R5 is a super camera but for me I am buying back a Nikon DSLR system. I just enjoy so much the D4s, D700 and D810. I will buy some used but in very good condition fast F mount lenses. I will keep the R5 and the 3 RF lenses I have for fast bird action and when I feel like using that system. But for me the DSLR is what I enjoy shooting with the D4s in particular. Great video and at last a down to earth photographer with no hype and good music. Enjoy those horse pictures. Oh to have my camera gear that I have now and will have again and living in my home state of Wyoming.

I used to own a printing business and I pushed my 7D images up to A1 without a problem, and I know the 5D has a great sensor and can be pushed too. Sometimes more pixels jammed into the sensor is not a good thing for image quality. On a note, my 7D has just started to give me problems after 12 years, so I bought a cheap 600D as backup and I love it.
@loneshootr3 жыл бұрын
Yep. For me, it all comes down to how well the data is captured and processed - kinda 'crap in = crap out' situation really. Sorry to hear about the ol' 7D acting up, but a well shot 600D will get the job done no worries.

A very large portion of my printed images 5x7, 8x10 and 11x14" were shot with a Canon 20D, 30D and 40D and Canon 5D MKII. I've pushed images from the 30D and 5D MK II up to 16x20" and 24x30" with no problem. I never had a client complain. If I had to go bigger I would print on canvas. It's the quality of the pixels more than the amount of pixels, and the image you, the photographer, put on the sensor along with the lens or lenses you use. I no longer have the 20 through 40Ds, but still have a 5D MK II and I use it often. I totally agree with what you're saying. I shoot people, portraits, head shots, models, graduating seniors, etc. I used to shoot a lot of weddings but stopped shooting weddings several years ago and all my weddings were shot with the above mentioned cameras.

Hi Alexander - I enjoy bird photography also and I too use the 55-250 - good lens but as you say, more reach is useful. Because of some unfortunate events happening in 2021 (not like.on your side, man, I hope you are getting to a much better spot. You deserve it.) I just finished gassing up my 5D for an outside event tomorrow. I was going to use it for an evening dinner event tonight but ISO HI (3200) is pushing it a bit. I can use flash but I’ve never used flash on a 5D and this is not time to experiment. I wasn’t 100% sure I would use it tomorrow but you have given me confidence to go for it. I’ll have a backup just in case. It will make great images; just hope there isn’t too much operator error. I have never had a problem with its 12 fat MP.
@loneshootr3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin, thanks for the comment brother. As long as you have a reasonably fast lens - nifty fifty 1.8 STM for instance - you should be able to get that ISO down some. My advice (for what it's worth) is to take your flash. Get your shots best you can without flash so you know you're covered - then start experimenting with bouncing flash off walls/ceilings etc. At worst, you'll get valuable experience. At best, you'll get some bangers. Drew
@kevinl14923 жыл бұрын
Opening up the aperture helps get more light but you need decent DOF for group shots. People at the edge of a group hate being out of focus and you can only use flash sparingly because it bothers people (in a small room). So lots of limits. I sold the two 6Ds I used to use. I may have to buy one back.

Honest video, good man. I believe every photographer especially amateur, should have an honest hard think about what camera delivers the results they’re happy with, and not get sucked in too deep into the market hype when new technology comes out…. unless you absolutely need the upgrade for your work that is. 👍 Think how much money you would save and spend that on glass rather than the latest camera body 🤔
@thenexthobby2 жыл бұрын
I count two EF-mount film bodies among my list of gear I should get rid of but don't want to get rid of, so I still gravitate to Canon for that lens compatibility ... and truth be told there are worse things in life than sticking with Canon. Currently using a camera you're not supposed to use for fast action (a 6D). I won't pretend it's ideal, but it does bring success. I've always been curious about the first 5D -- for exactly the reasons you cite -- but when I last looked a while back they either weren't priced right or were too beat up. I'm sure they'll pop up in another late-night eBay search eventually. Cheers.

5D Mark I? Not as shocking as you might think. I mean, personally I've never used the 5D Mark I myself, but its flim-like quality is something that has always intrigued me myself. In fact if I should find a used one in a store then I'd probably buy it on the spot. However, to only use the 5D Mark I? I'm not sure about that. The ISO performance is probably not the best which would be an issue if I should ever start shooting underground Metal-gigs in tiny clubs with awful light again, but in other situations with enough light? Sure! Why not! I'd have one concern about the 5D Mark I though, if I was a pro which I am not. Spare parts. It is an old camera and all models still on the market probably shot thousands and thousands of pictures which increases the chance of the mirror having to be replaced at one point. So yeah, as a 2nd camera for special occasions? I'd love to try it, but as my main work horse? I'm not sure about that.
@loneshootr3 жыл бұрын
Breeg2011- yeah I hear you, it certainly isn't the right choice for everyone. It's just the right choice for me at the moment, with the type of work I aim to make. If I have some action to shoot - I have a 7D which has been up to the job no worries. When it comes to low light, I've never had an issue with a 5D to be honest - I use 1.4 or 1.8 lenses and things work out ok. Having said that, if it's at all possible I use strobes if I can. As for spares - I don't worry. I use two bodies at all times (one cost £90 and the other £180 w/grip) - if one goes west I can get a couple more. Yeah, that 5D mirror thing - I only buy 5D bodies that have had the factory recall mirror mod. (easy to spot with the body cap off in ebay listings)! My first 5D I had years ago - that one spat its mirror out... I glued the sucker back in and it ran thousands of shots after!
