Great little video exploring the straps.Working for forty years in photography the straps can make or break a job or mood ! Getting it right is essential, things as you describe need to be harmonious and fluid.

Great video! I mostly carry my X100T cross-body with a Peak Design Leash. PD's anchor link system would actually allow you to get your camera off you without taking your jacket off. My strap is attached to the left hand side of the camera (when looking through the viewfinder/LCD) and the bottom of it through the tripod mount so that my right hand is unobstructed when I operate the camera and it is facing the ground/my body when I carry it (less chance of the lens bumping into something and it allows me to grab the camera a bit easier, kind of like a gun from a holster).

I love the crossbody strap method, especially for rangefinding and mirrorless cameras. For DSLR or heavier cameras, I'm more used to the whist strap. (not the light-weight ones, but the ones that are wrapping around the hand.

Awesome video! There's not too many people making videos about straps from what I've seen, and it's really handy that you made one. I'm more of a long strap person. I have a Pentax Spotmatic, and trying to use shorter straps to hang an SLR across my body is too short for my liking. It always gets in the way of my arm and hand when I have it by my side. I got a long leather strap a couple of years ago, and I love it.

They used to drive me nuts at first, but one of the nicest neck straps I grew to love are those silicone ones that came with the Leica T series cameras. They grip your clothing very well so you don’t need to worry about your camera sliding down your arm and falling off if you’re carrying it one armed, etc. Yes, it’s a bummer when it gets hot and humid it sticks to your skin a bit with sweat, but the security of the camera is a beneficial trade off

Nice job sharing ideas and styles on something most people don’t think about at all! For my Fuji, I use a leather wrist strap 95% of the time. I have a thin leather neck strap too, but I hate how it bounces on my chest when I walk, it doesn’t stay “up” on my shoulder, and it’s too short to wear cross-body 🤷🏻‍♂️ Looking forward to hearing more about the straps you’re making!!

My preferred setup is a hybrid approach. I have a wrist strap for when I'm actively shooting and a peak design capture clip when I need both hands free or my arm gets tired. I'm not a big fan of neck straps since my neck starts to hurt after a while and the camera tends to swing dangerosly while hiking. I also find longer straps have a tendency to get in the way of my viewfinder sometimes when taking a shot. My hybrid approach solves all of those problems. The capture clip holds my camera tightly when hiking, while the wrist strap gives maximum flexibility.

This spring I googled and googled for an adjustable camera strap. I checked the out reviews and decided on the Artisan&Artist ACAM - E25R. It's length adjustable. Bought one for myself, tried it out and found its length adjustable in a flash. My wife is shorter but it slides shorter to accommodate her. Over your shoulder, across your chest...no problem. Looked at so many, love this one. Also, the easy adjustment is great for summer with just a T-shirt, autumn and winter coats. You wouldn't have to tie the strap behind your head as you demonstrated. I paid $75 CA. You can order with ring attachment (with leather protectors) or the loop attachment.

I have my strap lengthened cross shoulder as it gives me literally every option. Though when I'm actively shooting a lot I do a super tight wrist wrap. I put a Domke strap on all my cameras as I find it super comfortable, versatile, and durable. when I wanna wear it as a neck strap I disconnect the middle clippy thing and loop it which shortens it perfectly. (that probably makes no sense if you aren't familiar with Domke straps.) ha ....and that concludes my Ted talk on straps.....

Peak Designs straps swapping across the body or to wrist strap with the clips that detach quickly and easily. One idea you might like to experiment with your straps is some guitar strings in the middle of the two layers of the strap so that it can't be cut from behind. Jacket tip was great. Security in some countries is worth considering.

(2:13) "Ich glaube das war gut" 🤣 (6:54) 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 A buddy of mine has a very cool, long, adjustable strap from Peek Design which may be used both as cross-over and a neck strap, but without knots. He can adjust the length of the strap by his needs really quick. For the most part I use neck straps. That one from the X-H1 is quite comfortable, but we'll see how I can handle the summer heat under it. Still, there's no strap that will prevent me from knocking a camera in the wall or something eventually, so for me the best strap is the one that holds the photo bag. By the way, I've subscribed to your channel AGIN, course YT unsubscribed me for some weird reason...

On the problem of wearing the strap crossbody under the jacket, and then having to remove the jacket in order to quickly get rid of the strap: The Schwalberg Strap from long, long ago. Bob Schwalberg was a writer in one of the photography magazines, “Popular”, “Modern”, one of those. He devised a strap with a snap hook inserted within the length. Unhook the thing, and simply drag the strap out from underneath. Earned a nice income from it.

I have sliding shoulder that strap doesn’t stay on, so I wear cross body all the time. Wear a jacket or shirt outside is my preference when I travel to new places to avoid unwanted attention and a bit safer. Leather strap has advantage of stay in position. My favorite strap is Vi Vance Matador SL version, I can use Peak Design Anchor Link with it, it’s braised leather so it’s soft and both sides are the same that I can slide the camera (I.e., Leica Q2 size and weight) to any position and stay there. Strap like PD only has traction in mid section, once you slide off center, it’s slippery and will slide back. Having the camera stay in mid to lower front position is perfect for hand and to avoid camera bump into things.

Best practice when using dslr and/or mirrorless around the shoulder with a neck strap ? Always tuck the lens inwards to your body, not outwards like Samuel did. Much better for not having your lens banged against people and/or other things when walking around.
