Singapore is a very expensive country compared to its surrounding and neighboring countries but is it actually possible to visit Singapore on a budget?? We wanted to find out so we set ourselves the challenge of only being able to spend $20 USD for one entire day, for both of us!!

Tap water in Singapore is potable and safe to drink straight from the tap. So if you have a water bottle, and don't feel like paying for bottled drinks, go nuts and refill your bottle in the toilet. Some malls also have family rooms with water dispenser in them.

Exactly. I do that all the time as a local, and have yet to die from it. There is no reason to buy bottled water, and no way one can run out of water in downtown Singapore. In fact, there are cool water dispensers in most parks too.

This is such a huge benefit! Paying for water is something that really adds up and we hate having to constantly buy water bottles

@@EoinandAisling if you walked along East Coast Park to get to town, you will have seen them at every public restroom area. There are even water dispensers designed to top-up water bottles. There is no need for water dispensers in downtown Singapore because, as others have said, one simply needs to walk into any available toilet (almost all of which are free) and top up using tap water. So you probably will not encounter many of these downtown.

If you stayed in the East Coast, you can also go to East Coast Park and cycle down to the city. If on a budget, just walk. Very pleasant connection directly to Gardens by the Bay, and plenty of toilets and water available along the way.

We did this a few days, went for a run/cycle! Its such a nice park to explore! Every time we went down it was filled with people out enjoying themselves

It's a mid autumn festival, or best known in Chinese culture as the mooncake festival 😅where it's a tradition in which we celebrated with Chinese tea n mooncake together with our families...while the kids play with their fanciful lanterns...😂💗

Pet sitting is such a great idea! What a nice way to enjoy some home comforts and maybe see a more local side of the destinations while travelling, as well as getting to enjoy the company of some furry companions!

It’s soo much fun and exactly that- the home comforts are such a treat when your travelling! The neighbourhoods we’ve been staying in have been so nice and we get to visit so many hawker centres outside the main city centre that we never would have otherwise

Excellent choice with the Ah Heng chicken curry noodle dinner. It’s a famous stall and definitely one of my must haves when I’m at Hong Lim.

Europe is by far, the most expensive region in the world. London, Paris, etc. Tokyo, in Asia.

Not arguing with that at all! Europe is so expensive but I would put Tokyo and Singapore on par with one another when it comes to living costs etc, studies also put Singapore above Tokyo but I guess it depends what you want to do in each city

Don't buy drinks from 7/11 they are more expensive as they carry a premium for 24 hrs convenience. You can buy a bottle drink from those coffee stalls at hawker centres and they are much cheaper.

Not really. Ntuc sell less than a dollar for 500ml. Coffeshop sell 1.50 n up for same thung.

Mixue is a terrible ice cream shop. For a more local and a better ice cream experience, it'll be Udders. That will cost a lot more though. About 6 SGD per cone.

@@EoinandAisling Bcos they are the typical complain kings and queens of sg. Buy starbucks but cry foul about fare increase of 1 dollar. A Spit in face at actual low income people dont get enough help/cant get help at all bcos they dont fit in the rigid government system/schemes.

We definitely could have but we were big spenders in Ireland, the biggest expensive for us would probably be putting diesel in the car haha but it’s definitely doable despite things massively going up in price
