Singapore is really expensive for the big things, like house, cars, hotels etc. For food it's really cheap compared to a lot of developed countries.

5:20 That... Is called 'Soup Dumplings', aka 小笼包 (Xiao Long Bao)... Its traditionally eaten with Black vinegar and thin slices of ginger... But, you can swap out the vinegar for soy sauce if you want to... But for correction... NO... Black Vinegar is not eaten more often... Its still light soy sauce...

The British surrender of Singapore to the Japanese took place at the Old Ford Factory though, not at Fort Canning. Pot stickers is also a correct term. It’s a direct translation of the Chinese name 锅贴. Glad you figured out $50 is doable. Singapore may be more expensive compared to the region but isn’t too expensive compared to elsewhere, especially if you know where to go.
@ThePassportCouple2 жыл бұрын
Hi Melvin 👋 Thank you for letting us know, we really appreciate it 🙌 And we are glad to hear pot stickers is an acceptable translation. We weren't totally sure so thank you. And $50 is more than doable. There is so much more to do for free in Singapore than we originally imagined (and great stuff too). And the food at the Hawker Markets is so good, period, let alone for the price point it is sold at. We fell in love with the cuisine there 🇸🇬💛 Thank you for watching and for leaving such a great comment 🙌

You are right, buying power in Sg is pretty high, much more so than we ever expected. Hawker centres were key to the challenge and even outside of this video, we sought them out every time we went out. They are amazing, both in price and quality of food. Singapore is an amazing place 🇸🇬💛

Not sure why you say Singapore is the most expensive country, when Europe has a much higher cost of living. Most of the food you eating in Singapore are our typical hawker centre where most of the food are reasonable priced. Breakfast at ya-kun (coffee and toast) are also our usual hang-out place. Considered that most of our food source are imported, its already consider cheap for eat-out, you cant get food at Europe or US at SGD 4-6 range. But neverthless, enjoy your trip and the attractions, and the food. :)

Thank you so much for this thoughtful comment, we appreciate it 🙌 Our goal with this video was to show that, even though Singapore is perceived as a very expensive place to travel, it is actually a very affordable, and AMAZING, place to travel. While there is a lot to see in Singapore, we could have just sat, and ate, at different Hawker Centres every day and been very happy. The food was so good 😀

I think being the most expensive country is only true if you adopt the lifestyle often seen in the western culture (owning cars and houses, partying and drinking). Using public transport and eating at local hawker stalls has already brought down the cost substantially compared to other developed countries. Eating out in Singapore can even be cheaper than buying groceries and cook for yourself.

@ThePassportCouple2 жыл бұрын
Hi Nat 👋 This is a great question. I can't speak for others who are creating such videos, but for us, there were three reasons. First, capping our spend forced us to seek out, explore, and enjoy some things we may not have typically done in Singapore. Now that we did, we are glad we did. Second, many people think Singapore is too expensive to visit, but our goal was to show that there is so much more to Singapore than just the "expensive stuff" and that it is a great place to visit, even for budget travelers 🇸🇬💛 Lastly, we have created and posted 157 videos on KZbin, but have never created this type of video. So from that standpoint, we had a blast making a different kind of video. These are just our reasons, but thought we would share. Thanks for watching 🙌
