My son was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis as a child and was on Prednisone for a year or more and he was miserable and had side effects galore. He himself researched treatment alternatives and started as a raw vegan (ate a lot of fruit) and did that for a year and then switched to be a whole food plant based vegan. His last colonoscopy they could find no sign of ulcerative colitis and he hasn't been on medications for years. Now he is a runner and can do heavy tasks with no problem. Glad for PCRM for bringing this to public attention. My sons doctors had no clue and would've never told him about this.

you are a gem for me!! I have UC and in remission for years following a plant based diet. It is sad and in my opinion criminal that gastroenterologists are not educated yet responsible for our care. My Dr. has actually called me irresponsible for relying on food as my medicine. I am healthy and thriving !!! Isnt that the goal???? I so appreciate you, high carb health, and other doctors who promote a vegan lifestyle. Thank you

My doctor recommended I go Plant-based and I'm on day 12. Yea Me! She had me see a dietitian within her clinic and she recommended me getting your book. I just started it today, actually. This channel has been helpful for me to get my mind wrapped around the "why's" to better health. My big deal, is chronic yeast and bacteria overgrowth that has me plagued for the past few years. I've done a ton of restrictive eating with plenty of "bone broth" to boot. Really aggravating to have the whole alternative healing world promote such things. I look forward to reading your book and cookbook. Thanks for caring and taking our health in your hands.

Be careful that made mine so much worse and I was so vitamin deficient from not eating meat😢I gave up after this last hospital stay with a flare.. first thing I did was come home and start eating pasture eggs and grass fed liver, it changed my world I feel 100 times better than I did on vegetables❤

I was suffering horrible pain from costochondritis for several years. After switching to the plant based diet and adding turmeric to my food every day the pain has disappeared :)

I refused surgery for a stoma yrs ago. I went into remission from terrible malnutrition I had no albumin in my blood , very anaemic, nutritional therapy was how I recovered. As well as strong pro biotics and cannabis oil.

I pre-ordered Dr. B's new cookbook. I have to keep on tabs with all this WFPB information to stay motivated. My health is improving and that's the key despite the radical ways I treated it..High protein, High Fat/good fat and low carbs. There is so much food related information out there that it's so confusing to know who/what to believe. But, when my new doctor told me that all that meat and fat with little fruit/grains has set me up for ill health that will get worse. I'm lucky I caught things early.

I've done a lot of experiments with blending. I was blending lentils with skins and brown rice and it does change the nature of one's bowel movement. The stools were smaller. I personally think that blending somehow makes less of the fibre available to the bacteria in your colon, maybe the small particles of fibre maybe have some nutrients extracted in the small intestine so there's not so much to feed on. Obviously any fibre is better than none but I tried low fibre and it was a disaster for my ulcerative colitis, constipation and more bleeding. Wishing everyone the best of luck.

I have suffered with diverticulitis for over a decade and found transformational improvement with WFPB diet but it took many months to work up to a high fiber. IMO, the biggest concern for inflamed/injured colon is gas producing foods so beans and cruciferous veggies take the longest to carefully introduce.

I agree, but this is not the food it self, but rather meal frequency in my experience, now I eat a OMAD WFPB I dont have any excessive gas anymore, in my experience one have to eat a varied vegan diet to get a robust microbiome.

I've found Budeonide 9mg a day has stopped the bleeding for me. I'm glad to see a doctor put so much emphasis on gut health- it's astounding and quite honestly negligent how most GASTRO consultants deny the diet is important!! The food and advice get in hospital with the NHS is atrocious letting people down BIG TIME.

Just found this channel. I am on Budeonide 9mg since 03.23.24 up to today 04.02.24 and boy I don't see progress yet for me to say bleeding has stopped for me. You are lucky, glad it worked for you. I am going to still take it according to prescription for 2 months 9mg once a day and then lower it to 2 weeks after the 2 months. I am hoping the bleeding will stop. BTW how long did it took the bleeding to stop for you while taking Budeonide? Thank you for your response. I see your comment was about 2 years ago.

Thank you for this great interview and best wishes from the UK. I was diagnosed with UC in 2010 and after being treated with steroids for two months I recovered. In 2013 I had a minor flare and was prescribed a low dose, non steroidal anti inflammatory drug which I still take today. At this time I also changed my diet and became fully plant based and I have been in full remission ever since. I continue to be monitored and my twice yearly blood work is normal with extremely low inflammation markers. I always thought that kissing developed as an extension of feeding. Historically mothers chew the food and pass it by mouth to their young children who were transitioning from being breast fed to eating more solid food. I assume mouth to mouth contact ensured that the food was not contaminated by the outside environment. Microbes are on our hands too of course although one reason to shake hands was to demonstrate that you were not carrying a weapon and planning to attack the person that you were meeting!

Congratulations on your achieving remission of UC! It reminds me that anthropologist Dr. Richard Leakey believes humans evolved eating mostly plants like our closest living relatives, the chimpanzees. Great to hear that moving to a diet that we apparently evolved to work with did the trick!

Also cbd cannabis oil full spectrum with thc helps to bring appetite back when I can't stomach anything. This should be prescribed on the NHS too

I don’t have ulcerative colitis but I do have long term gastroparesis originating with Ehlers Danlos. Now with late onset Type 1 diabetes it’s gotten worse. I even had an episode where I’d taken my insulin for the upcoming meal and my stomach didn’t empty at all. So no blood sugar to cover the insulin. Needless to say I dropped like a rocket and nearly passed out which can be deadly. I finally got blood sugar to rise by holding sugar in my mouth for several minutes. Now I wait to dose once I start to see a rise with food. But my question is: how do I continue eating whole food plant based (with all its stomach slowing fiber) yet increase stomach emptying time???? This question is for Dr Bulsiewicz in the exam room!

My daughter has UC for almost 12 years , now she's 33 years old and she isn't in remission yet, is there any chance that she probably has sensitivety to Gluten or dairy or anything else, soshe can not stay in remition?

Dear Dr Bulsiewicz, I bought Fiber Fueled and was surprised to see olive oil as an ingredient of many recipes, will this be the case in your new book too? I thought olive oil was not health-promoting and many plant-based doctors do not recommend it. I would appreciate your response. I always enjoy your videos. Thank you.

I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis im taking mezalicine 1200 a day and lasomprasole and im suffering from acid reflux im having problem swallowing foods When i drink it comes back and it like mucus very sticky my doctor is not helping my tummy feels burning , how can you help me ?

I have a large habitual hernia and suffered from GERD a long time ago caused by NSAIDs. My point is it doesn't need surgery and I suspect your symptoms are at least exacerbated by your weight. Get that under control along with a healthy diet and your symptoms are likely to disappear.

@@OlympianVenus No, and I'm on no meds. Of course the usual precautions help to keep it that way; try not to eat too late, don't over eat, limit coffee, even decaf, a good diet, regular exercise, stress management, etc. I'm sure you're well aware with all of that. And although I rarely need them, I do keep some Rolaids in the house. I looked into the surgery many years ago when I suffered badly from both GERD and erosive gastritis. Nexium took time, but it eventually worked for me over the other PPIs. In fact, I was on them for years until I weaned myself off. The surgery is fairly radical, and not all that successful. It really would be a last resort. Does your gut microbiome need to adjust to things like spices too? I’d love to incorporate turmeric in my diet, like adding it to my soup which I eat all the time. However turmeric causes colon irritability (spasms and loose stools). Is it something I should be able to slowly increase or does it sound more like an intolerance and I should just avoid? 😊

I don’t know how people eat vegetables with UC. It makes mine so much worse 😮make sure you are adding some pasture eggs, grass fed liver, fish and bone broth .. get those vitamins ❤

I cook them, mostly in the oven very well. Like 40-50 minutes. Almost like a puree form. I started with courgette, then add up butternut squash, bell peppers and sweet potatoes. And mashed potatoes without milk has really been a cure for me. I still cannot tolerate cabbage. My dinner is a piece of animal protein plus those veggies out of the oven.
