Captain Josh! Now that I hear there's a pilot shortage, your videos Josh have been helpful in my journey to make my childhood dreams come true in the civi aviation world (passed military aircrew testing, but if stars don't allign still since before pandemic with the "changing budgets," civi is still great) as I've been saving money from my current software job to get back to a flying career if affordable. For the FAR 91.103 acronym in this video, it could be a pneumonic for "what does any pilot do in a preflight action?" A pilot WANTS Fuel. Then, it's a more intuitive acronym. I flew gliders back in 2012 in cadets at 15, had a few unfortunate life events I don't control up to my undergrad, and I'm cleared from an AME for a Category 1 as of meeting them last week most likely unless suddenly revoked. Failure is good! If that gets represented through my long-term career, I'm grateful if all the volunteering; learning from the updated materials including your visually clear and architecturally pleasing videos; and marks from all the exams are enough to reflect the merticocracy. Josh, keep making more videos and I hope to become like you to whatever extent that the stars allign.

I promise you, if you don’t make the military, you’ll love the civilian side just as much! Love your acronym. A Pilot WANTS fuel. I’m going to use that. Thank you so much! I’ll see you around!

@@FreePilotTraining Great video, sent it to my PPL students that have their rides coming up soon! One thing I'd suggest is that instead of your WANTS acronym, look into NWKRAFT: Notams, Weather, Known ATC delays, Runway distance information, Alternates, Fuel Requirements, TOLD. Covers a bit more info and also translates directly to instrument rating :)

My Dad was part of the team between Lockheed and later, also a key integrated avionics and more, electronic defense, Comms, etc contractor, when the first integrated avionics suites were placed on the AC-130s. That was also when the USAF - and Lockheed - first “fully realized” the previously unknown “extent” of exactly how high fidelity (sensitive) radar tech actually is. Previously the analog driven monitors had been the limiting factor. And so , “Stealth” was born.

Great question, I’m actually going off some of the various websites I read on this one: if you read 61.113 it says that (b) A Private Pilot may, for compensation or hire, act as pilot in command of an aircraft in connection with any business or employment if: (1) The flight is only incidental to that business or employment; and (2) the aircraft does not carry passengers or property for compensation or hire. Now, I’m not a lawyer OR and FAA representative, but I would say that if you fly aerobatics and get paid for it, that flight is INCIDENTAL to that employment. You just can’t carry passengers or stuff when you do that. There might be an Advisory Circular that clarifies. I’ll have to research that more.

In my career as a flight paramedic we(the pilot) occasionally time out away from our base. When the next shift comes in it could be a 3 hour drive each way to change out. As a PPL am I allowed to be on the clock for the hospital and fly the next crew down and the off going crew back to minimize out of service times?

I actually don’t know the answer to that. Maybe someone can respond that might know for sure. The fact that you’re carrying passengers makes me think that you can’t do that

Hi Josh, I'm an airman who has struggled getting a medical. Can you please make a video on the FAA medical application process and exam? I don't want new student pilots to get deferred and have to go through months of paperwork and expensive tests like I did. The FAA's way of doing things is slow and outdated. Student pilots need to make sure they can pass their medical before they jump into training. I wish I had heard that advice when I started. Flight schools may not tell you this because it stops you from spending as much money with them.
@FreePilotTraining
@FreePilotTraining Жыл бұрын
Great idea. I talked about this a little bit on my Private Pilot Breakdown, but that would be something good to mention. I’ll have to admit, I’m kinda weak on that whole process though so I’ll have to do quite a bit of research
@EvanKelly391
@EvanKelly391 Жыл бұрын
@@FreePilotTraining Yes please do. No airman should assume they will get a medical because they feel healthy when they take the exam. The FAA asks about your entire history. The infamous “have you ever” question on the application. I wish flight schools would require pilots to get their medical before training. Even if someone does their research beforehand, the rules change.

Doesn't 61.113(b) allow for a private pilot to get reimbursed for business travel? I know that the flight basically has to be solo and can't be carrying cargo for compensation. And the business I'm carrying out can't be the flight itself. E.g. I'm taking a trip to meet with a customer of my bakery. I thought I was allowed to get the expenses reimbursed by the business for such a flight. Do I have that wrong? Oh! Oops, I should have kept watching before I commented.

It’s kinda late but I need some help please. So I have a question pertaining to the far part 61.109 with meeting the dual cross country requirements. It states “training must include at least- (1) 3 hours of cross-country flight training in a single-engine airplane; (2) Except as provided in §61.110 of this part, 3 hours of night flight train- ing in a single-engine airplane that in- cludes- (i) One cross-country flight of over 100 nautical miles total distance; and (ii) 10 takeoffs and 10 landings to a full stop (with each landing involving a flight in the traffic pattern) at an air- port.” Does this mean I need 3 hours daytime cross country training and 3 hours of nighttime cross country training? Or 3 hours in total between day and night?
@FreePilotTraining
@FreePilotTraining Жыл бұрын
Great question. You need 3 hours of total cross country training. Night time cross country training can count for that. You also need 3 hours of night training, and part of that is a 100 mile cross country. So if you knock out 1.5 hours of cross country training during the day and 1.5 hours of cross country at night, you’ve met that requirement
