Seeing as how well Capcom still made other crossovers in the versus series years later (Tatsunoko VS. Capcom, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, etc.), they can way better than that. They know it, they are only making excuses for themselves.

This is a pie in the sky dream but there was a series of RPGs on the 3DS called Project X Zone. It was this big crossover between Bandai Namco, Capcom and Sega. I would love them to revisit that idea in fighting game form.

My dream of "Capcom vs. Capcom" would be one where Capcom makes a point where half the cast is big, famous properties and the other half draws from their more obscure library as the "second" Capcom. Like an alternate reality where Capcom's current huge, popular characters are obscure and the ones that we view as obscure are their mainline franchises. Imagine the absolute nexus of hype it would bring from Capcom fans: "Haha, Ryu is teaming up with Nina from Breath of Fire, that's clever." "Oh, neat, Zero's back, and he's teaming up with Megaman.EXE! Cool!" "Oh, Leon is our first RE rep. Woah, Regina's back!" "There you are, Dante! Woah, he's teaming up with Gene!" @@lanaskye2380 Well if it were up to me then Sissel would have Lynne as a point character and be like a puppet who moves around objects and performs Ghost Tricks with them. The sort of "narrative" of the fight being that she died again and the fight is Sissel rewinding 4 minutes. A certain spoiler could be referenced as part of a win pose, or a KO animation, or a super move. Something minor such that people who don't know wouldn't even notice. Though a spoiler that would be less likely to be hidden would be that most likely for an interesting play style then integrating Missile into the moves would be useful.

The Archie Comics actually gave us a Sega & Capcom crossover comic. That featured franchises like Monster Hunter, Breath of Fire, Okami, Skies of Arcadia, Panzer Dragoon, Golden Axe, etc. I'm sad it only stayed a comic rather becoming a real deal video game.

After watching a lot of Matt McMuscles videos, I seriously don't get why companies are so quick to abandon a franchise because a game didn't do well. It's usually a bunch of unfortanate decisions and/or factors that may be unique to the game that failed, and not because the franchise is bad. So a Capcom All Stars might just sell if they just made a good new one.

It's not young, risk-blooded folks in these decisions usually, but older businessmen who often don't ever want to do something again if it didn't do well the first time or ended up falling on its face before. Resident Evil and Street Fighter both had their struggling recovery periods, one via a remaster and the other where they needed Sony budget to even get SFV made with next to no content in the first place, even despite IV's relative success. As a Mega Man fan still on the Capcom Test ladder, the series simply doesn't sell what they want it to, so it's been on another hiatus besides emulation collections since 2018. As a Breath of Fire fan, we got the mobile game that sold like shit, but Capcom thinks Dragon Quarter singlehandedly tanked all interest in the franchise in 2002. And those two are just the tips of the iceberg on the sheer number of franchises left dead and buried because executives don't trust them for anything but crossover material.

@@cylondorado4582 the differences is that RE and SF, regardless of having a few bad games, is a household name and is among the most popular things in gaming, even up there with Mario etc. Not many people know Breath of Fire exists or few other obscure Capcom games. Mega Man is one of the few exceptions.

I mean we saw what happened when all those fighting games and resident evil titles came out in the early 2010s they did well then they made obscure games like Asuras Wrath and Remember Me which have a following but failed financially. So I would agree and have thought for a long time that it’s best that just do a Capcom all stars and have that be MVC going forward since Marvel being now owned by Disney wouldn’t be worth trying to work with given their potential restrictions. Have CAS be their ever updated Smash Ultimate add characters and stages every year and then just keep updating it and they’d have an easy hit on their hands. Capcom being a third party alone has so many great franchises to pull from that it’s a wonder they haven’t done this yet.

Capcom has always placed their franchises since the late 1990s into tiers. In any given year, they have 1 tent pole mega-franchise get a new installment, 1-2 mid tier releases from more niche franchises, and several smaller titles that get thrown out because they felt like making it. The issue is that it developed into a caste system where the top tier recieve all the attention and priority, which lessens as you go down. You can drop down tiers in a heartbeat, and getting back up is herculean. What they need to do is put a little more marketing budget behind the smaller titles so the word can get out and they can sell better.

Ingrid needs to not be shoehorned into a franchise like she was in Street Fighter Alpha 3. If she went back to being a key player in a deadly plot like she was in CFAS, I'm sure she would have been a more accepted. If we can forget about a MvC game at the moment, Capcom should really focus in an All Stars crossover fighting game, considering the TONS of characters and franchises it has created in all these years. Also another MegaMan X, Onimusha, Dino Crisis and Rival School installments would be good. Another new horror, side scrolling and Hack n Slash franchises may be a good deal, considering they are starting to test more chances with projects like Exoprimal and Pragmata.

The issue is that if Capcom goes it alone, they’re in a weird situation where Capcom as a brand isn’t as strong as the sum of its parts. Maybe it could be a great entry point for a F2P fighting game from Capcom. That said, I’m not sure we should read too much into the “one last time” thing regarding MvC2. Arcade 1Up has cabinets to sell, after all.

I agree. However , I think that is doable. If they re-use the Code Holder concepts , re-use MvCI Capcom’s assets and insert other characters, people will follow. Naturally, it will not have the same appeal as playing Spider-Man, but it will build itself up steadily, with the MVC and CVS fans , alongside the other franchise’s fans that will try it out. In a way , a far safer attempt than the whole hassle of dealing with licensing.

Just look at that Chocobo Racing game, people expected just a mid budget new full game release, but were turned off by the appearance of microtransaction models.

I've been fighting people on this since MvCI. I think Capcom's still got some serious talent in their fighting game division (more evident now that we've seen SF6 in action) and they just need a project where they don't need to run everything through a second party like Marvel. But everyone wants Versus Games. Everyone want a do-over for Marvel 4. "What's the point of a Versus game if it's not a crossover with other IP?" And yes, I've had Fighting Jam thrown in my face as the reason why this idea can't work. It's not just the Capcom higher ups, but the fans as well. Gotta break these mindsets.

I'd expect maybe if they pulled some Nintendo characters into it there'd be an influx from that fanbase, but the aim is very much just a Capcom All-Star game, but with the potential for a bunch of crossover on top of that. Popularity-wise, it'd be pretty niche but the right crossovers would at least create a buzz for it.

I feel like one of the issue is that production costs and times for a big game are so high now that comapanies would rather focus all their ressource on the one big game they have in a given genre. In Capcom's case, this mean Street Fighter as the only fighting game. They should realise that having a smaller scale project on the side can be a plus. A new Rival School wouldn't have to be a big triple A experience.

I think you could absolutely do a Capcom Monsters crossover game. Resident Evil x DMC x Monster Hunter x Darkstalkers. No need to worry about a crazy worlds-colliding crossover story for the singleplayer like MvC, just write a few good horror stories that intertwine the different franchises because you can put almost any monster in a monster story.

Funny I was just thinking about making a video on how a new 3v3 mvc with just Capcom characters would be fantastic right now. Since the last real effort (mvc3) Capcom has had a TON of franchises either come into existence or get fantastic revivals. They have more than enough to easily fill out a 50 character roster of both fan favorites and deep cuts, and we haven't really had a game that has the energy of mvc3 in a long time. Here's to hoping we get to actually play dmc5 Vergil in a fighting game that isn't just a mod

having 3 characters for each capcom franchise already fills up a roster significantly, i think it would be a super smart move ngl. especially if they continue doing old game collections, put these characters more available to be discovered. smash has made many people try the games the have reps for, the same could happen here, even if in a way smaller scale

The best time in history for Capcom VS is right now. Crossovers are HOT, hotter than they’ve ever been. Marvel crossing over with itself, Fortnite, Mortal Kombat getting all the guests, of course MultiVersus, and so many other examples. If Capcom ever did want to try their own All-Star esc game again, now is the best possible time before people get burnt out on “Everyone x Everything”

I don't think a "Capcom Mash Up" game needs to be tried again right now per say. I think they should explore a similar direction that SNK took, that eventually led to KOF. KOF wasn't a mash up, but a conscious new series, that created a combined universe for Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, and a number of other lesser known games like Ikari Warriors and Psycho Soldier, and then made a series. That would be cool. After all, they already have the ground work. SF, Final Fight, Rival Schools take place in the same universe. They could add Slam Masters to the mix, then since unique characters like KOF did, with Kyo's team and others. Hell, they could resurrect the lost characters from All Stars like Ingrid and others, but make it in a more grounded universe with a episodic sagas like KOF and it could be 3v3 or 2v2

I still believe in Darkstalkers. Take the same flying leap that Ono convinced Capcom to take with SF4. Put resources behind it and make it dope. Really play up the monster angle and the wackiness. Put Morrigan and Felicia in Fortnite to draw attention.

I would've bet on a new Darkstalkers game because it's the equivalent to SNK's Samsho, a relatively popular series that is a quite a departure from their mainline series and hasn't had a sequel in a VERY long time, but they could completely throw everyone for a loop and out of the blue collab WITH SNK for CVS3. either way, I don't think we're seeing a new teaser, let alone trailer for a new fighting game from Capcom in at least 3-5 years from now.

X Tekken had some good ideas that could be toned down & made into a very legit sequel. Keep chargeable super but eliminate early release for ex move so you have to fully charge putting yourself in peril to pull it off, & make that the only way you can do a regular super. Now super bar is for cross over attacks only. Add a separate gauge for ex moves/tag team mode. Also no more lame chain combos, instead mp+mk to tag in, which can be done instantly & used as combo extender but is on a cooldown timer so you can't do it all the time. Also give each character 2 gems & they can be activated whenever you want, not on auto. (Plus dump money into some graphics)...& you got a winner.

Capcom is truly back to their glory days. We cant forget that it is thanks to Capcom that the fighting game community grew and was maintained as it was today. It was games like SF II, 3S and MVC 2 that brought millions to the genre. It was Capcom games that championed EVO and many other fighting game events. And my fellow 80s and 90s kids wont forget how Super Ghouls n Ghosts, Onimusha, Power Stone and Final Fight played a huge role in our gaming childhoods and the industry itself. The iconic series we grew up on that still evolved into monsters of franchises like Resident Evil and Devil May Cry. And that still go strong after 25 years. Now also enjoyed by a totally new generation. From the arcades to home consoles and PC. From Megaman to Monster Hunter. From Breath of Fire to Dino Crisis. Its been an amazing time and Im excited for more to come. As someone who has lived and experienced it from the beginning I can say confidently that Capcom is one of the most influential video game companies of all time. They went through their dark ages in fighting games and it was a bleak time. It is true. But they overcame and are back to their Capcom glory. Ignore the people that hate no matter what. They are like so many on the internet miserable and insignificant. People that are negative out of fashion and trying to get approval of the minority that is the angry mob. Nothing more boring than trying to be pessimistic all the time. To anyone hyped for the new age. I cant wait for 2023, SF6 and a new age of Capcom games unfold infront of us. The future looks bright. See you all in the arenas, brothers and sisters. Time to play some good video games.

I've thought for a while Capcom should do some kind of "Capcom Vs the World", basically a MvC style game with a bunch of Capcom characters, but then let other companies pay for the privilege of being included rather than the other way around (they would ostensibly want to do this as a form of advertising for their own property, imagine as part of a new movie release or something they arrange for a free DLC character in this game, or one that comes from a code you got via purchasing a movie ticket, that kind of thing).

I mean, the obvious answer is the return of Saturday Night Slam Masters. My unlikely dream aside, what you say makes sense to me, Max. Honestly, always seemed weird that when Capcom doesn't have a "Vs" tag game on their lineup, they don't just go into their existing IP alone. There's also all these sci/fi, fantasy, and horror elements that Capcom could easily knit into a kind of "new world" with existing characters featured in new ways. Alternate universes are all the rage, so imagine something like... super fan service-y, a Dmitri-led Umbrella setting up in Metro City and the planet has since become a mutant filled world with characters like Zombie Buster Mega Man, Monster Hunter Dante, and ex-S.T.A.R.S. Chun Li all trying to stop him.

The problem is, not everything needs to be triple A. Make solid budget titles. Everything doesn't need to sell 5 million plus to make money. Capcom leaves so much money on the table by having this mentality. These games will make money simply due to how long they've been dormant. Not to mention how much money they'll make on re-releases over the years. Just balance the budget on expected sales, and make sure the gameplay is good. Its not hard.

Project X Zone fighting game. doesn't have to actually be in the series, just talking about the concept of Capcom, Bandai Namco, and Sega in one game. the original 2 games were RPGs focused only on the less "cartoony" characters after all, but that excludes some of the most iconic. of course it would take a miracle of cooperation

I think Capcom Vs. SNK 3 makes sense cause SFVI's Mechanic and Animation can be used to make a New Groove System for Capcom. Since you can make SFIII, SFIV and SFV based Groove using the base animations of SFVI's mechanic

But all other all-star games have appeal because of the characters involves, Multiversus have WB's, MvC had Marvel, Fighterz had DBZ, Smash have Nintendo chars. From a character standpoint currently the biggest appealing characters from Capcom are SF's or DMC's, maybe Megaman because nostalgia, because RE and MH are terribly popular but not because the characters, RE7 was the most popular of the new ones and had a brand new character. Then you have a bunch of purely nostalgia characters, but I don't think any company would bet big bucks in something purely based on nostalgia, when they do pander to nostalgia are with mid-lowish budget games like Octopath Traveler, and Capcom Fighting Jam was exactly that.

I was kind of thinking of what other franchises Capcom could do a VS series with (specifically western stuff), and I legitimately think "Street Fighter Vs. Skullgirls" (Maybe even "Darkstalkers vs Skullgirls") would be awesome. It's not like Skullgirls isn't already a MASSIVE MvC2 homage and I doubt they'd have any major licensing hurdles to jump. I think seeing Skullgirls characters in the RE engine would be blursed, but maybe we could get some of the characters from the kickstarter poll that didn't make it in as well. It might also gain some traction for them to make another Skullgirls season and have Chun Li or Morrigan as a guest character in Skullgirls. I know most people aren't going to ask for, or even want, this and it probably wouldn't even sell well if it happened. But, I think it's a wonderful dream to have.

Just a suggestion, but maybe capcom SHOULDNT do other triple A fighters. Consider how beloved more indie games like skullgirls and battle for the grid are. Maybe making smaller fighting games without huge 3D graphics and tons of extra modes aren’t necessary. Maybe put effort into the game (unlike fighting jam) but don’t make the biggest budget fighter of all time on a risky ip

I think the best way to tackle this is how Multiverses is handling things. FTP, Build The Roster, Create Enough Assets after a couple of years and then take those fighters from each franchise and reboot the franchise.

In a perfect world I would love to see Darkstalkers come back and developed by Arksys but I know the chances are slim to none. I think they're just going to focus on SF6, I doubt upper management would want to spend money on developing another fighter. The only way I see it happening is if they gave it a small budget and made it free to play.

Just make it have the budget of that new melty blood game except avoid the flaws that game has rn. Free 2 Play isn't as simple as people make it out to be, a F2P game needs content and fan support to survive. It'd be lower risk to just make a relatively good looking mid budget Darkstalkers game that hopefully doesn't make any controversy.

SF6 has quite a few thing indicating they’re testing the waters for another Vs game: * Combo meter can now go past 99 hits without auto-prevention or glitching. World Tour combinations can include more varied and wild moves. * Tag-team functions in world tour allowing for bigger combos as well * Collab costume events like TMNT in SF6. EDIT: Terry and Mai are to be in SF6, to boot.

Capcom should DEFINITELY focus for the their next fighter after SF6 on a vs game of only Capcom characters. While I would love a Marvel game, and a bunch of people would also want CvS 3 (CvS is before my time), a Capcom only game would be better in my eyes because then Capcom would have as little licensing issues as possible with other companies. They can instead dig deep into the vault of their own IP and start generating new hype and fandoms for these old characters, which could lead better into more projects in the future.
