When I was dating, there was so many women who just couldn't carry a conversation, or would be on their phone the whole time. If you're not interested I get it, but at the bare minimum try to be polite and finish the date, then when we're done if you don't want to continue dating that's fine. But what makes it more confusing, is the number of girls who would appear completely dismissive, and or disinterested, be on their phone, not contribute to conversation, but still want to date. ??????????? So 9/10 I never knew if a girl was interested or not, as they'd continue not talking much, playing on their phone, but still want to go on dates. I'd give the benefit of the doubt and say maybe she needs time to open up, but more often than not if I felt like I was the one putting in most of the effort trying to converse, I'd just stop talking to her. I was also dating this one girl, and one time she was sick (I've been over to her place many times before) so I dropped her off a care package of stuff because she told me she didn't have any medicine. She called me a creep. For the longest time I felt like a massive creep doing nice things for girls, like I was "trying too hard", but eventually I found a woman who really appreciates the little things I like to do to show affection. People really don't realize how their comments can ruin a person's self esteem.

My spouse also came from a very poor family but we both broke the cycles with excellent careers. He is a networking engineer and we settled in a tech area. The date I wish I could have walked out on was my first ever date. Guy I’d been flirting with in class asked me out. We decided to go to Griffith Observatory for an event. I drove and on the way there I asked if he had the tickets (he said he’d take care of everything) to which he responded “Oh no. I thought we’d wing it.” Turns out he got the date wrong and we were stuck in traffic for two hours. I decided I didn’t want the drive to LA to be a total loss so I suggested we check out the Santa Monica pier. We get there he starts acting like he’s five, literally jumping up and down in place and pointing out every little thing to me. This was when I contemplated ditching him in the restroom, but I didn’t want to be a jerk since I was his ride and we were really far from campus. We went on the ferris wheel and they gave us glow sticks. He poked me in the cheek with it so many times, even though I asked him to stop, I nearly threw it into the ocean. At this point the date has lasted 4 hours and I hate everything. I try to drive him back to the dorms but he starts whining that he’s hungry. I have no idea how he got me to stop at IHOP but I did. While we were waiting for a table he started giggling. I asked him why and he said “I really want to attack you.” Wtf. He later clarified he meant tickle attack but still, nope. I leave then and take us back to the dorms. I literally run to the front door so I can lock him out, but a good samaritan opened the door for him. He walked up to me and said “I just want to hold you.” Then proceeded to put his hands on my shoulders while holding me at arms length and staring at me for a good 60 seconds. Then he said bye and left. I really wish this had been some sort of fever dream but it is sadly true. Needless to say my new dating rules are: everyone has their own transportation and it doesn’t last much longer than 2 hours for a first date.

I thought my worst date was bad...till I read this. wow, that sounds like the worst. With me, I met the woman, sight unseen...she had no picture, and almost no info on her profile. She contacted me and wanted to meet immediately and, being dumb, agreed. We met at a sports bar. The woman was 20 years older than on her profile. She says it's her birthday. She then proceeds to get sloppy drunk, and I got to enjoy a 2+ hour monolog on how many 'young bucks' she slept with, her various extreme and ugly political/social views, and her bragging about the various car accidents she had been in. Eventually I convinced her that I had to go...but she lived in the city so I walked her to her apartment building. Then I had to fend her off, and get her to accept that I was not going to spend the night with her. Blocked her. The next weekend I got a text from a strange number. It was her. She said that she was on her way to my apartment (how did she find out where I lived?) and told me that we were going to have sex whether I wanted to or not. I was terrified. Then I thought about how odd it was that she found out where I lived. And even odder that when she described out evening together, she got what drink she had wrong. Not even the worst alcoholic forgets their drink of choice. The texter was my friend and her husband, f-ing with me.

How to do a first date correctly (one of the ways)- Go to a public place, like McDonald's. Drive there yourself. This way, if there's no connection, they're psycho/stalker, etc. You can bail. Pay for your own meal/drink. This way, there's no "I paid for your drink/meal. You owe me!". This is what my ex girlfriend did on our first date. Together for a year and are still friends 😊.

I walked out on my fiance once. My anxiety is ridiculously bad and historically is triggered by big red fire alarms. Just their potential to go off and scare the shit out of me is enough to set off an irrational panic attack. You can say "it won't go off" all you want, but after living in an apartment building where they went off at least once a month, and just general school that had fire drills every month, I KNOW that's a damn lie. They get triggered randomly by the fire department to test them and the staffs response to an emergency. Patrons will NEVER know when to be prepared because it's random by default. Only the fire department knows it's going to happen. AAANYWAY. We went to a place called "The Third Alarm Diner" in Sanford, Maine. Go on give it a Google, its exactly how it sounds. Spent ten minutes in there, had a panic attack and had to leave her to breakfast alone. She brought me back a smoothie ❤️

Yeah, my first date was about two years ago. I'm a supposed adult. It was a bit awkward but I thought we got on well. Shy Italian guy. He seemed surprised that I don't drink alcohol. I was in high school and had a guy start spending a lot of time with me. He was into nerd stuff, plastic models and put up with hanging out with me in my 100+ degree garage while my parents had drunken fights. So i asked him if he liked me since he was putting up with my dysfunctional family and hot as hell sanctuary space to spend time with me. He said "hell no" and packed up his stuff and left, never hung out with me alone again all senior year. So prom comes around and i am going with gf as lesbians. He out out of the blue asks me to be his date before i can make my date public to our friend group. I apologized to him and told him the nature of my date. He was genuinely disgusted with me and never spoke to me again. Oh well, he missed out big time. My gf became my 20+ year wife and i wondered what became of him.

I met girl at a coffee shop and she was very attractive and we were getting on well . About 30 minutes into the date she tells me she's easy to get along with, that all I needed to do is do whatever she said....and she wasn't kidding. I put 20 bucks on our lil table and told her to keep the change.

We all know she will end up wrinkly, probably ill and not so mobile and alone. Hopefully the sweet man will either find a decent lady or adjust to and be happy being single, having realised he CAN like and love himself and be his own validation. Better to take up a hobby, sporting interest or volunteer once or twice a week for something genuinely of interest. Maybe animal rescue, forestry or woods maintenance etc. At least their will be mostly decent minded people there.

More or less walked out on a date I had earlier this year with somebody who also just talked in single words and seemed more occupied with the drink they brought than with me. I assumed we were going to go to them but it turns out we could not for a reason they never gave. They suggested to just walk but it already felt super awkward. It was dark, they started walking and on a hunch I decided to stop. It took them like fifty meters or more until they noticed I had stopped. At that point I just told them I am not feeling it and stopped the date.

I hated all of these but the one that got me most was the fetishizing of black women. Im not the type to barge in on the talk of race but that deeply disturbed me. Black women shouldn't be a fetish. I never went on a date, but i have jumped straight into relationships instead of actually getting to know them. Now i prefer dates first (but still hvant). I was telling my guy bestfriend about the bfs i had and guys ive met. He was surprised and said i ran into a lot of messed up people.... yup. Im really empathetic, its not a gift, its a curse.
