0:54 stall:rapid loss of lift 1:08 airfoil leading edge and trailing edge 1:22 chord line 1:37 prop wash, wind from the propeller going over the plane and wings 1:58 angle of attack: the angle between the relative wind and the wings chord line. It changes with direction of the plan 2:21 when we increase angle of attack or relative wind, we increase the lift as long as its smooth air flow 2:37 laminar flow, wind flows over and under the wing in smooth thin layers 2:40 low angles of attack the wind flows smoothly and the layers stay separated 2:57 high angles of attack increase the lift because the air has more distance to travel but it wants to flow straight back it would become separated from the top flow causing a disruption in the other flows. Boundary layer separation 3:22 4:11 stall when lift is less than weigh 4:25 altitude and weight affect stall speed but angle of attack is always the same 4:31 right before airplane stalls, it reaches the highest point of angle of attack and if it increase any more it will stall. This is called the critical angle of attack 4:43 5:18 wings are still producing some lift during a stall. To break a stall, reduce AoA and reduce back pressure on yolk

Josh , I've watched your channel for awhile now and always seem to either learn something I didn't know already or often get a different perspective on the subject than I had before watching. Love the fact that your willing to put your time and energy to make these educational videos, to help student pilots and aviation enthusiasts that may be interested in pursuing flying in the future. May your hard work bless you and your family, and maybe one day we can share a cock pit and some air time together. Appreciate your influence as an Aviation KZbinr Thanks a lot!

Yes. You must have an instructor endorsement to take the written exam.
@dannycnoble

brian, i am at a part 61 too and thought about using the pay ground schools for my PPL. but i talked to Sheppard air (who you should use for everything after the PPL) and they said there is so much info out there you should not need to pay for the PPL ground school. if your instructor teaches you right in the plane and you do your part and study (or watch this video series over and over again like i did) you should not pay a penny more for ground school than you would for a flight lesson. as Josh your instructor will sign off for your PPL. if you have a good instructor he will make you (or you can show him) some practice tests. each instructor is different but if you get consistently above 70% they should sign off on you. due to my rotating work schedule is was hard for my instructor and i to get together for me to take a practice test in front of him because i figure i why waste time on a practice test when we could go fly and build hrs. so i showed him all my practice tests on sporty's. I used sporty's practice tests for mine. i also recommend you get the asa electronic e6B and the manual asa e6b "whiz wheel". i do not recall josh having very many videos on how to use the e6b but there are several videos out there showing you how to you use the whiz wheel and having the electronic e6b will really help you learn the manual one lots faster. as even though you can use the electronic e6b on the written exam on your checkride you examiner will make you show him you can use the whiz wheel if you want to pass. so best to learn that one.. for me anyway it was easier to learn the whiz wheel by using the electronic version. be warned Sporty's is damn good but i think sporty's limits everyone who does not pay for their PPL ground school course to 75% or less on the practice test. i did about 100 sportys exams and got higher than 75 only like 5 times. but when i went to take the real test i dropped a 91. so how is it i can take 100 tests including one 24 hrs before the real one and score 16 points or more higher? to test my theory i took the sportys test within 30 minutes of getting a 91 on the real test and they scored me a 72. only way that happens is if sporty's was putting a cap on the non member scores. that said i highly recommend you use the sporty's practice exam in conjunction with josh's ground school. even though sporty's caps you it forces you to study more and you can always find your answers really easy in josh's series cause he keeps them pretty short and to the point.

Josh, just wondering about those aerobatic plane , why is it that they can do vertical take off and doesn't stall. Is it because of the air foil or the engine power?

Even those airplanes will stall. They typically have a lot more power and they are often lighter. That helps a lot.

i have a question, most of this all makes sense to me. but one thing i'm still confused on is how are some planes able to do loops while going past the critical angle of attack? is it just relying on the power of the motor? i've heard that the elevator/horizontal stabilizer still works fine past the main wing's critical angle of attack, but i would think the the horizontal stabilizer would still have a critical angle of attack so that the elevator wouldn't be functional. plus i've seen that the ailerons still work going vertical until the plane gets to slow. (on planes that are capable of doing loops.) why is this?
@FreePilotTraining
@FreePilotTraining 3 ай бұрын
Great question. It’s all about inertia. I did a few loops in pilot training for the Air Force. You have to start out really fast and accomplish the maneuver before you slow down too much. Otherwise, you could stall on the upward part of the loop.

Another great tip is a plane stalls at the exact same aft stick position every time (reference the book stick and rudder). So when next practising your stalls take note of the aft stick position right at the stall this is your stall stick position learnt it, as it will never change! It's an infinitely better indicator for stalls than airspeed which is just not a reliable marker.
@FreePilotTraining
@FreePilotTraining 2 ай бұрын
Very interesting. Thanks! I still haven’t been able to read that book yet.
@chipcity3016
@chipcity3016 2 ай бұрын
@@FreePilotTraining equally interesting, and understood by few pilots, is that the stick position not only determines precisely your stall angle but also your precise airspeed regardless of power! Example if your flying with the stick in a fixed position yeilding say 80 knots. As you increase or decrease the power but hold the stick in same position, the airspeed will only momentarily change until the fixed AOA takes over and brings the air speed back to exactly 80 knots. When I land I use the stick position to control my approach speed and petrol burn (throttle) to make the ground closer or further away. Stick position = air speed RPM (Power) = height AGL. FACT!!!!!
