"When dealing with quantum systems involving multiple particles, each particle does not have its own wavefunction, rather there is a single wavefunction representing all the particles." -- This was such a helpful thing to explain for a layperson like myself. I don't think I've seen this clarified in other videos, though perhaps I had missed it. Either way, thank you for clarifying that point.

@pyropulse Isn’t the Copenhagen interpretation technically still viable? It interprets the waves as collapsing into a single discrete state which is said to be a particle. Even if it isn’t a very ‘good’ interpretation in my opinion, I think it’s still viable one.

@@EugeneKhutoryansky Why does the wave function rotates?
@Shenron557
@Shenron557 4 жыл бұрын
@@theunknown4834 The wave function does not actually rotate. The rotation is shown to represent the real and imaginary parts of the wave function. Look at the axes' labels in the animations. Its kind of like this: To represent a real sine wave, you need two dimensions (lets say X and Y). If an imaginary component is also added, you will need an extra dimension to show the imaginary part. In the simple cases shown in the video, the real and imaginary components combine together which seems like a rotation. For example, if you plot the function exp(i*t) on a complex plane where t goes from 0 to 2*pi, you will see a vector rotating in the counter-clockwise direction.

To keep watching these videos the christyun war on science education has to be won. Removing science from the classroom and replacing it with bible study is part of the christyun right's plan to put woo back in the curriculum, crosses on walls and prayer as an instructional tool. When I was beginning my education in the late 50's America led the world in most fields of science and technology, and students from around the world were desperately trying to get an American education. Trumpists have put an end to that.

1:44 "When dealing with quantum systems involving multiple particles, each particle does not have its own wave function, but rather there is a single wave function representing all the particles." - That's profound on so many levels.
@Guido_XL
@Guido_XL 4 жыл бұрын
And yet, it makes so much sense, even if you have no educational background in this science whatsoever. Of course, waves will interfere with one another. That's what waves do, be they of an elastic, electromagnetic, or probability nature. The scholars of ancient times were not foolish at all when they intuitively proposed the universal music of nature. They had not yet the capacity to begin to grasp quantum-mechanics, but they already sensed that waves were vital to the total concept of it all.

i am just in 12 standard but i have read in my curriculum about atomic orbitals hybridising and making molecular orbitals! is it similar?
@ll-oh2gz
@ll-oh2gz 4 жыл бұрын
@@UzairKhan-qd3xu Yes very similar since the atomic orbitals can be described using wavefunctions. They can be combined symmetrically and antisymmetrically as well. These wavefunctions can be found using Schrodinger's equation and by making a few assumptions to simplify these complicated calculations to give answers (which will be approximate but still quite accurate).
@mb2776
@mb2776 3 ай бұрын
@@UzairKhan-qd3xu probably. meaning we can't describe it mathematically yet since that's only feasable with a particle in box, with the schrödinger equation you'll get the orbitals of the hydrogen atom and afaik, people were able to describe helium with it but moleculs are still to comlicated because of relativistic effects and gravity

The explanation using the symmetric and antisymmetric wave functions strengthening or canceling each other is used on various physics channels, but here it is nicely linked to the visualisation. Especially the zero probability alongside X1=X2 was very enlightening for me. Very well done, thank You!

No one,and I mean really no one explain these concepts better than Eugene Khutyryansky! I wish I had a chemistry and physics profesors in highschool that could explain at least 1% as of what Eugene explaining... But alas... my love for physics is now fulfilled in YT from one of the best physicists in the world,of which I highly regard Eugene as the best profesors of them all.

Well, the concept of the wavefunction is a method of describing _how_ nature behaves. Then, trying to describe _why_ by leaning on this description misses the point. A more profound description would instead emerge from a field theory were the concept of "a particle in a box" is a misnomer. The concept of a particle emerges from a measurement and its subsequent decoherence. Without such measurement it is pointless (!) to talk about a particle.

I went through that..hang in there. You can pass those May I suggest.. 1-Hang out with the 'A' students after class. 2-Any questions or doubts, always discuss them with the TA's or professor everyday if necesary 3-Get a tutor. 4-Solve 'extra' problems and repeat the problems you already did (it becomes a reflex). 5-Learn to love math and physics like a puzzle, make it a game. 6-Make it personal, don't let it beat you. Never give up. 6-Remember- Your brain is the same size as Einstein's was.

Thanks for the compliments and I am glad that I have increased your interest in physics. Yes, the way physics is taught in the classrooms is very unfortunate. They take the most facinating topics in the universe, and manage to make them completely dull and uninteresting, and make people want to stay as far away as possible for the rest of their lives.
