So so true!!!! Needed to hear just this. Was struggling with this. On one hand we see the goodness of reformed theology- all the sound and solid doctrines and firm grip on Biblical reality, but the lack of grace in some of it's professors, on the other we see the liberal church who is mostly about grace and love and not rooted strongly in the truth of God's word, thus losing its 'sword' and impact. How prone are we to errors. Something which seems so right in our eyes can take us away from the real thing, no matter how crucial and important and good it is. It seems to be that we are not very good in walking a straight balanced path. The problem is in us. I think this is why we need God's grace and His Spirit and Word and humble trust and reliance upon them, knowing we are not God, God is. 'He gives grace to the humble.'

"you fix your brain, you don't 'fix' the Bible" John's got the right idea here. I am surprised at his stance on divorce and remarriage, few megachurch pastors will acknowledge this as truth but he has, and that shows me that Piper is authentic in his love for the Word of God, it's people and the truth that sets us free.

@firstfreeyouth You make a great point, and I think it is good to be aware of our intellectualism. I am constantly reminding myself that my interest in doctrine and theology will not save me, a relationship with Jesus based on repentance and faith will. I hope no one takes offense to your suggestion, but would rather be convicted!

This was so true from John . True understanding of Doctrine and Gods word are vital but in our zeal for defending the Bibles every dot and comma some reformed teachers can become graceless because the truth without grace makes things black and white devoid of understanding for another christian that may not have there theology as perfect as there own. None of us could understand scripture except Gods spirit illuminated it therefore Paul writes why are you acting like what you recieved came from yourself or intellect. He rightfully warns us not to become puffed up one against another.
@davidwang72124 жыл бұрын
I agree. reformed theology is way doctrine-centered rather than the person of God-centered. if we want to meet God personally, we need to approach Him in Spirit and truth. The Spirit is empowered when we see with eyes in heart God's love and holiness from the gospel. We need to experience Him in Spirit and by Spirit, not only in mind.

It is easy to read Galatians 1:15-17 and see that Paul "[immediately]...went away in to Arabia..." without remembering that he was one of the top students of Jewish law and history of his time. We read also 2 Timothy 3:15-17 "...that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work". In our zeal to spread the Gospel, we must also know just what that Gospel is. How can we do His work, if we have not learned which work He would have us do? However, I believe John Piper has nailed it!!

I think what Piper is trying to say is that we humans are idolaters by nature. What we do when we are alone is what reflects how much we love God...not what we do in public. We can fool anybody with our behavior/preaching/defending if we don't practice what we preach. How do you recognize someone who loves God? By their fruit. They don't get easily angered when others don't agree with them as shown in this forum. We no longer love each other...we argue with each other and Satan loves it. God bless!
@KISStheSON...6 жыл бұрын
You're preaching to the choir!!! You don't know what is in the hearts of the people writing in these comments...Love is what drives me to comment on false teachers. Yes, how do YOU (a human being) recognize someone who loves God?..."by their fruit". But, God knows us by our heart! So, I am not out to "fool" anyone or am I easily angered, if that is what you are implying. I am well aware of Satan's love of you tube arguments, but we MUST expose the false teachers!!! Peace.
@kaboom90816 жыл бұрын
Isn't that what we all do? preaching the choir? I'm not judging anyone nor you sister. It wasn't personal. I'm just trying to figure out what Piper is saying here that's all. God bless!
@KISStheSON...6 жыл бұрын
Preaching to the choir was a joke!! I gave up trying to figure out John Piper and I stand by my original comment...all the things he accuses people of doing is LOVING GOD!...It's absurd to believe otherwise. Idolatry is forbidden when we idolize someone other than God. Evangelizing is loving God. Defending the faith is loving God. Preaching is loving God.Only Satan would could believe otherwise. Only Satan would lead "someone" to believe that such things are wrong to do and NOT us showing our love for God. I love God. He saved a wretch like me. The LEAST I can do for him is preach, evangelize, and defend Christianity by writing about his true Character in youtube comments!!! Unfortunately, Calvinist's don't know the One True Gracious God and it's because of these false teachers spreading this heresy...God bless you as well!

THANK YOU!!! As soon as we stop looking to the Scriptures as we have been told over and over, then the subjective, experiential heresies take over. Watch yourself John Piper! Who was it that prayed, sanctify them by the truth. Your word is truth. That would be Jesus.

I find it funny that a lot of Christians throw Calvin under the bus. All of the reformers agreed on predestination, election, salvation by faith, etc. The one thing they disagreed over was the nature of the sacraments.

All of the Magisterial Reformers the Protestant Church has propped up. Be accurate. Scholars during the Reformation such as Phillip Melanchthon, Conrad Grebel, and Balthasar Hubmaier and others rejected Calvinism. Actually Hubmaier was murdered by downing by your “Reformers” for standing up for believer’s baptism and separation of church and state. So, if you’re a Reformed Baptist, you would have been killed by these men you view as heros. That’s just a fact of the matter. You might want to dig a little bit deeper before saying “all” Reformers.

All the sorrow I went thru was the Bible was not my primary source for truth. I make no apologies for eschewing the emphasis on experiential religion over a more rational realization we judge our doctrine by scripture even if the conclusion does not make us happy. God gave us a brain to use and a heart to feel. A teeter totter is only balanced horizontal to the ground the same is true for theology and the Bible.

Corona is a crown or garland bestowed among the Romans as a reward for distinguished services, whereas crown is a royal, imperial or princely headdress. Revelation 6:2 And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer. The white horse was given the Corona is the picture! Another point was made by Dana Ashlie, that the bowmen wasn't given arrows.. She felt that meant that only in appearance was a threat perceived! But the Corona is defiantly there, and here! And we are in that day.

Covenant Caswell actually it says when the perfect comes which is the cannon of scripture which gives us ALL THINGS PERTAINING TO LIFE AND GODLINESS
@yeoberry5 жыл бұрын
Jason Harkness : Total nonsense. It says no such thing. One of the main themes of the Nee Testament is the second coming of Christ. There’s no prediction of the coming of the canon of scripture. You are inserting that idea into the text, thus twisting scripture. The passage says that when “the perfect comes” then we’ll see “face to face” and we’ll be fully known. Scripture doesn’t have a face and it’s a person to know us.

When your doing theology theology becomes your God. Reading the bible and harkening to his voice constantly reading and harkening isn't theology it is living. Talking about what is said to you as you read the word to someone who doesn't read is like foreign language

Piper should ask himself this fundamental question - Is the doctrine of God found in the scriptures both systematic and consistent in nature? If it is, then we cannot be too focused on systematization in the understanding the truths of God's word - indeed the right division of scripture will be demonstrated on the basis of that reconciliation. If, on the other hand, the word of God is NOT systematically reconcilable - well, then Piper's got a MUCH bigger problem on his hands. So which is it?

If you want to know what God says and thinks then search the scriptures. Jesus said you do greatly error not knowing the scripture nor the power of God. Theology creates Denominationalism. Read forever and all times. Constantly repeatedly. You will be a massive problem to them who are theologically trained. They just don't know it.

John Piper, When I listen to you, it sounds confusing. Let me say, you have forgotten more about Christianity than I know, as well as the average Christian knows. For me when you speak as you are doing in this video, it sounds to complicated for me, I am a simplle man. I can understand when a preacher teaches from scripture, but for me personal opinions turn me off. Then again I suppose I have faulty opinions as well. GOD BLESS YOU.
