The story behind that Nami Color Page is Hilarious. Oda originally drew the strawhats together with a Mini Going Mery Model. He Erased the whole Rough Draft, and decided "Imma just Draw Nami being Bad Af instead" 😂

The biggest change is how thick the line work is. There was more variety in line thickness that made it look cleaner. Outlines were thicker, shading was thin. Now it all looks very comparable. It’s been that way since late Dressrosa.
@batutsu338Күн бұрын
I'm sorry, but the messier outline is not the same as errors or lack of consistency in body proportions and looks. The deformation (or the messy look) is likely due to a lack of time rather than a lack of skill. It is not the case that Oda is unable to draw hands or feet. He showed many times how he is more than capable of doing that. It is just that its very difficult to maintain high quality drawings within a demanding weekly schedule. Adding to that, Shueisha is known for pushing its creators to their limits, and it often showes in a form of some rush artwork. But I don't think a bad-drawn hand is a deliberate change in Oda's art style, because I don't think it's intentional, rather, it’s likely an unintentional oversight caused by the pressures of the publishing industry.

personally, i enjoy and embrace the sketchier look mangaka are assuming these days- drawing comics are hard, you know? and if the artist draws some obscure foot wrong or something, it won’t be the end of the world!

i can say, though, i don’t love the messy panels personally

The messy paneling is definitely a negative. But personally I love the new sketchy look. Especially for the eyes, they feel more alive than before. His anatomy and perspective has become so much more accurate too. Specifically egghead and elbaf

Honestly, the evolution of *One Piece*’s art is such a fascinating journey because it reflects how much Oda has grown as an artist while still staying true to the heart of the series. I love how vibrant and detailed the newer arcs look-the colors pop in a way that wasn’t as striking before the time skip. It’s like the world itself has leveled up alongside the story. Imma always have a soft spot for the older, simpler days, but the current art feels like a celebration of how far *One Piece* has come! If I had to choose, I’d say it’s not about ‘better’ or ‘worse’-it’s about different vibes for different times. The evolution keeps things fresh, and honestly, that’s what makes *One Piece* timeless!

I don’t blame Oda for having inconsistencies in his art and being lazy when it comes to drawing hands and feet. Bro is a slave to his passion. He has a little to no free time. He sleeps like three hours a day, constantly writing, planning and drawing this manga. He can take shortcuts all he wants as long as it’s not going to affect the narrative. I hope bro takes more breaks like the recent one we’ve gotten.

@YuktubeIsDaFunniOne10 сағат бұрын
i feel like the new art has less unique proportions and stylisation, pre-timeskip luffy's grin had his mouth cover his face all the way to the edges and the designs overall were sharp and had a certain "perfection" to the way the lines were placed and shape language of the designs, whereas the new style has a lot of empty space between features and softer messy linework which looks like unique and dynamic
@teeboz6237Күн бұрын
I'm not even a huge OP fan but Oda has been pretty consistent. You get drawn in immediately because it's so stylised and unique; you stay for the storytelling. By admission I only ever got to volume 10 but I was never bored. Also, Shaman King is a great example of that style. It's so OTT but also very engaging. Yoh was my favourite character apart from Yusuke from YYH and Kaneda from Akira back then. Old school manga/anime is the best.

One thing I'm glad the Most, is that Oda's Paneling starts to get Better like the Old Times. Not to Small, Not to Messy, and Essay to Follow. The Latest Chapter at Least has the paneling Better.

Hey, you talked about he draws somethings in a rush, but you didn't conciderated that those details are small and nobody will notice untill you zoom in, it's hierarchy, well, if you do so in a painting it occurs as well.

He’s been doing it 30 years. It HAS to be this way. If he put as much work into every panel as he did 20 years ago then it literally would never finish. It’s amazing that Oda has still kept the quality as high all these years later, messy as it may be

Honestly, I think the art quality of one piece has been good and consistent since whole cake but until wano it has definitely decreased probably because it’s you know……. The longest arc in one piece and that would put a strain on any mangaka art quality

I am one that cares more about the art than the paneling. In terms of the art right now, I am not a fan. It doesn't even look bad in a general sense, it's just gotten worse. As a whole, it's definitely gotten more messier since the timeskip but I still find the average art in recent arcs like Whole Cake and Wano to still be good. But since the beginning of Egghead until now, it's been a turning point in my eyes. Instead of only being messy in certain moments, it feels messy all the time. The way limbs or even faces look like they're doodles instead of clearer art is disappointing. Like look at Chopper at 10:02; wtf is that. I can look past at art like that in the past in Wano and Whole Cake when they were fewer and farther in between, but now it's all too common that it's not appealing to look at. Now the art only looks really impressive when it's something big and Oda locks in like with the Loki and Elbaph shot. Those two examples look really good! The worst part about this is that it's not even Oda's fault necessarily. His color spreads still look fantastic. He's an amazing artist. But the weekly grind that Shueisha puts him through has really done some damage since the start of Egghead. I'm just hoping it goes back to how it was pre-Egghead. We're in the final saga, arguably the most exciting and important point in the story, so I don't want to see the crazy shit that's gonna go down looking like how it looks now.
