Lol updates have nothing to do with EW. Those are hardwares and RF radio frequency effects. Once you expose your system to the enemy it becomes less useful. Russia has already has many months of studying to jam himars operational frequencies. They already 50% successful. These will be passed on to China and others. The longer your new system is in use it becomes less effective.

The Chinese military does not care about the Hamas rocket launcher system. Because China's rocket launcher system is more powerful. The launch distance is longer and the power is greater. The Chinese military possesses the world's most powerful drones and anti drone systems. The Ukrainian war highlights the importance of drones, which is precisely what China excels in.

They still care a lot about HIMARS capabilities. Even if their own rocket artillery really is better on most or even all metrics and they have nothing to learn from its tech, they would still be receiving incoming attacks from many HIMARS units in the case of a war. Knowing what as precisely as possible what they can and can't do would make it easier to destroy them and reduce the damage they're able to inflict.

Hey there ENI! Can you share your thoughts on the PrSM 1 & 2 missiles? Would they be effective against the Сhinese navy? Thank you in advance and all the best!
@EurasiaNaval
@EurasiaNaval 2 ай бұрын
The PrSM 1 and 2 are launched by the HIMARS as well, as you probably know. The general countermeasures discussed in this video would apply to the defence of naval ships against HIMARS as well. However, there is the added complication for the HIMARS of how to coordinate the strikes so that a large number of missiles will arrive at the same time against the Chinese naval ships. While naval ships are high value targets, they are usually well defended by either their own systems or other ships. Generally, if we are talking about a generic long-range missile like the PrSM 2, you need a fairly large number to overwhelm ship-borne defences. If HIMARS are dispersed around Taiwan, it may be hard to coordinate their arrivals against a Chinese fleet. If HIMARS launchers are concentrated, they could be potentially more vulnerable to detection and active attacks. These are my thoughts on the matter.

There is zero need to fight a war for Taiwan. China simply needs to militarily continue to develop and build out so that both Taiwan and USA feel properly deterred. I expect drones to drop off tracked vehicle “roll-bots” that hide and passively monitor the surrounding terrain. There are many possible variants of the strategy to rely on many ground based unmanned vehicles including unmanned vehicles planting dense networks of concealed sensors, combination of reconnaissance vehicles and weaponized unmanned vehicles and networks controlled by a few concealed operators embedded with the unmanned vehicles/sensor network. Think 5 operators per company of remote vehicles (20 to 1 ratio) creating a region of control in a square km with hundreds of sensors planted in every direction up to well outside the control strong point. Now consider hundreds of such companies each designed to operate independently for a week if necessary.

Very good video. One point that wasn't brought up was blockade; HIMARS (along with other American missile systems like PATRIOT) would require replacements, ammunition and potentially even crew to come from the United States. Unlike Ukraine, China will be able to quickly secure control of all sea lanes to Taiwan, effectively blockading military aid from getting in. This means that either these systems will have very limited utility and will only be usable in the opening days or weeks of a conflict, or they must stockpile large quantities of American missiles which would provide static targets for the PLA to hit, neutralising much of the advantage HIMARS has in mobility.

@@Gunni1972 not necessarily. Even if the US is not formally part of the war, the missiles that systems like HIMARS and PATRIOT use are only manufactured in the United States. We can see in Ukraine right now just how impactful it can be when you cut off support from the US.

The only thing that might give HIMARS a slight edge is mobility. But if your recon assets proliferated in enemies supply lines, hideouts, you have an opportunity to hit them like the Russians have been in Ukraine. HIMARS is a system with a lot of US propaganda and hadn't have a real impact on Ukraine battles. It toke a couple of weeks to Russia to adapt its SAMs (Buk M2/3, Pantsir S1/2, etc) to effectively down the missiles, and the Russian electronic warfare is second to no one, they jammed the GPS over large areas of Ukrainian territory and leaved the HIMARS unusable. So that the NATO contractors had to attack only civilian targets to use as propaganda. The Lancet Kamikaze drones, Iskander missiles and glide FAB-xxxx bombs destroyed a lot of HIMARS systems, and even precision ammunition such as Krasnopol taken out several of them. China wouldn't have any problem in counter these weapons, because its recon drones are superb and they have a lot of them. With kamikaze drones directed by recon drones, the problem will solve itself very quickly.

The Lancet and Iranian flying lawn mowers was a turning point. China PCL-191 with Beidou is more than a match but crucially China has the industrial capacity to outproduce the US many times over. Russia now lets China fly WZ-7 UAV into the Sea of Japan over Russian territory near the Tumen river for intel sharing. Cos Chinese UAV is infinitely superior to Russian ones and China have strategic UAVs that Russia doesn't have at all. BTW, Ukraine is about 17 times bigger than Taiwan. In addition, Taiwan cannot get supplies from a bordering NATO country that Ukraine does now. Ukraine is bordered by Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and other countries with many rails, highways, air going into Ukraine. Taiwan does not have that. I don't think people realize how fast a Taiwan conflict will end. Possibly days. I think it has not happened because China is worred about Chinese deaths and wants to limit that.

HIMARS is a glorified MLRS at the end of the day, the name is implied, it’s a rocket, not a missile system, it’s greatly outclassed in comparison to the many DF offerings. To itself, it’s a hell of a system, though contrasted to many DF-HGV systems, it’s irrelevant. This is a good presentation. but it has two errors. First, it suggests that the 'PrSM' missile would be needed to strike China's mainland. That is incorrect. While Ukrainian troops have mostly been supplied with the shorter range GMLRS missile (up to ~70 kilometers) for use in HIMARS, they have also received some ATACM missiles. The ATACM missiles come in a couple variants, with the longer range one reaching 300 kilometers. That is enough to reach into and past China's coastline without PrSM. Second, it stated the PrSM missile has a 300 kilometer range. That is also incorrect. The PrSM missile's range supposedly STARTS at 500 kilometers, with longer range ones in design. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MGM-140_ATACMS en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Precision_Strike_Missile

The U.S. military-industrial complex has raised the prices of U.S. military weapons to unaffordable prices. This is because China's latest weapons are easy to use and cheap, and will not be able to compete in the long run. Excellent video. My only point of contention is over how survivable HIMARS would be in Taiwan relative to Ukraine. Yes, Taiwan is geographically smaller, but this doesn't matter much since the range of HIMARS limits its area of operations in Ukraine. Furthermore, Taiwan is far more densely populated, forested, and road covered than Ukraine. A HIMARS could hide anywhere, even a civilian garage. If they base it inside a city, it would almost impossible to spot. HIMARS, unlike tanks, are difficult to distinguish from a normal truck for aerial spotters. They only give the position away once they fire off their payload, then any IR sensor can pick them up.

HIMARS were super effective at the start of the invasion when it was just about moving large columns of people in to make camp. For China, these types of guided Missle launchers, however, will be much more important since they can be deployed on islands against ships. It is thus very crucial for China to expand every island they have to a self-sufficient base, speeding down any attempts to move in ships. Of course, vice versa enemy forces will try the same.

@Teochewtuahang Of course they do, but these things are much cheaper than a ship, and let's say an Arleigh Burke destroyer fends of 1 or 2 salvos. Then they depleted their ammunition so much that they need to go back. The chances of destroying a ship are low, especially if in a convoy, but even a few of these are enough to cause temporary sea denial. Especially the US will have major difficulties that far away from home, and every missle will cause them to keep distance. Destroying HIMARS in the field. Russia DID NOT USE AIR assets to destroy the HIMARS radar and launch systems because of Ukraine's air defense systems. Instead they used missiles, drones, and artillery for ground components and air defense missiles (like S300, S400), and electronic warfare to down missiles. Sending in aircraft until Taiwan's air defense systems have been neutralized is risky and will sustain higher loses. Russia neutralized Ukraine's air defense with their hypersonic missiles and some with drones. They have destroyed most of Ukraine's air defense and now have air supremacy. Thry have replaced many missile attacks with inexpensive GLIDE BOMBS, 500, 1000, 1500, and soon 3000 KG's, dropped in "stand back" upwards of 60-80 KM away. China should consider following Russia's lead and also use glide bombs.
@Gunni1972

WHY? bringing airplanes into taiwanese patriot range is an expensive mistake. Just intercept the missiles with SAM systems, (use short range, the missiles come at you anyway, and short range missiles are cheaper to rearm, or replace). Then shoot back with your own long range rocket artillery. It's not like China has none. In this case, it is basically still a skirmish, and not a full blown Assault. Air supremacy is only necessary, if you want to destroy the whole Military at once. If China takes out long range Missiles, Taiwan orders new ones from USA and USA is happy. And China wants everybody to be a happy family. Right? Small skirmishes are ok, but no big guns. Right? Same agreement Russia has with USA. You just get a "Test population" for weapons training. Ofc, these agreements are NEVER "binding" for USA because "exceptionalism".

It should be pointed out that having a qualitative and quantitative advantage does not guarantee air superiority, much less air dominance. That has been demonstrated in Ukraine, where Ukraine's sir defence has effectively denied Russia access to Ukrainian air space. I suspect that will be the case over Taiwan. And much like Russia, I do not believe the PLAAF has trained for SEAD. Taiwan can deploy HIMARS on the reverse slope. Granted, China may try to deploy small drones, but the local side typically has the advantage in EW, effectively jamming the communication and control of the small drones. Another is the speed one can establish a kill chain. Essentially, the time it takes to detect and track a target, put together a strike package and launching the attack. Russia has not been doing so well. Taking hours to respond to anything other than artillery support. Because China would need to launch a strike from the mainland or a ship. It is not so easy to strike at a HIMARS. Not saying it can't be done, just that it isn't easy and I have not seen anything showing China even training in tying ISR with counter battery missions.
