I always dressed like my supervisor, and when she moved on, I got her job! (She was much more qualified than I was, but she gave me such excellent training in our field or science and engineering, if not deliberately in office style). My career went continuously from strength to strength, and in addition to my always hard and painstaking work, I credit her for my success. What an amazing lady, I’ll always be grateful. Like her, I always helped other young woman starting out in our male-dominated field. It’s hard to think of any area that isn’t worth emulating her in.

This is great advice. I’m an inked 50 year old and I had the ink 30+ years ago. In my twenties I had to navigate corporate America back when it was still pretty shocking. I used tricks similar to yours. I always thought and still think it’s fun to dress up for the office and add some whimsical and unique touches.
