Those chrome behemoths with dual boilers and E61 groups are just old tech and should just die or go away, get lost, whatever. I got a couple just taking up space in my closet. Adding PID and a few other bells and whistles still does not make these machines relevant in today's expresso world. Now, it's about computers and temperature control and displays. I'm into my fifth year of owning a Decent Espresso machine and it is the cutting edge of espresso technology. Boilers are out, computers are in, that's the future. The new Ninja Luxe Cafe at $500 can probably run circles around any dual boiler machine on the market when we're comparing quality in the cup. What shocks me is nobody has set out to copy Decent Espresso. I suspect the tech is just too difficult to copy effectively at the current Decent Espresso price point. Ninja Luxe Cafe is on the right track and although they may never equal Decent Espresso, I can visualize Ninja coming out with a $2000 machine that gives the Decent some real competition.

Very helpful video! Any lever machines you would recommend? Previously had a Linea Mini and was just too much machine for me. Thanks!!

Yes there's some great lever machines depending on how extreme you want to go. The easiest and most fun for me is the flair 58 electric. It doesn't do milk but I loved the feeling this machine gives you. So smooth! There's the OG La pavoni's which are great or you could go the Profitec Pro 800 however that might be same level as the Mini for you. 🙌

@Rydecoffeecoach8 ай бұрын
Thank you! 🙏 Depending on your budget and preference there are a couple of different grinders I love. Entry level: I like Breville Smart grinder pro and Baratza encore. If you want something a bit nicer and more elegant I would look at the Eureka Mignon Silenzio. My current favourite is the Timemore Sculptor 68s or 78s but that does mean you have to weigh in the beans each time. Does that help?

Just started watch your channel, good stuff :) would like to ask you can a HX make as good espresso as a Dual Boiler ? I was looking at Profitec Pro 400 vs Lelit Elizabeth Espresso (both these machine will fit my counter) , I've read online where people have said HX even with PID is not as good as dual boilerat making espresso, I don't know why I have a Breville Barista Pro and use a Eureka Mignon Facile 50mm and I pull some great shots. Looking to upgrade machine down the road maybe end of this year, leaning towards Pro 400 and keep making great video's :)

One of my issues with the Micra is in North America it only has a one year warranty and that is just unacceptable for such an expensive machine
@Rydecoffeecoach21 күн бұрын
Yeh that's way too short! Don't you guys have a government standard warranty? In Australia we have consumer protection that says "a reasonable amount of time". So for a TV it's like 7 years but for other appliances it might be 2 years. We hardly ever have to buy extended warranties because no company wants to go against the ACCC (consumer right council).
@wiloghby2 күн бұрын
@@Rydecoffeecoach We do not have that in America. We don't believe in consumer protections :)

Sweet! Great video, thanks! You mentioned that maybe the only machine the Decent cannot replicate is a lever. What would someone miss if lever profile is not available, taste wise?
@Rydecoffeecoach8 ай бұрын
There are lever profiles for sure but there's just one thing that separates it from a true lever and that's to do with the speed of how the portafilter fills with water when you open the lever up. Other than that you can pretty much accurately replicate all sorts of levers and other machines. 👌👌

Hi Ryde, I've been keen to purchase a Linea Micra for some time now however I thought it was an either or in relation to adjusting the machines parameters/settings manually or alternatively, through the LM app. If adjustments/settings can only be done through their app, well that knocks it on the head for me. I'm not interested in E61 machines so I am now considering the Rancilio Silvia Pro X. I'm not sure if a later version of the Pro X is due soon in Australia whereby they may improve the drip tray but what's your thoughts overall on the pros & cons of this machine at $3,000 AUD? Also Ryde, you seem to always refer to prices in US Dollars which I understand for your US viewers but it would also be good if you mentioned the AUD as well. That's just some feedback Ryde, not meant as a criticism. Cheers, Stephen.
@Rydecoffeecoach7 ай бұрын
Yes you're right some of the adjustments are either/or through the app. It's mostly the advanced options, so you can still make a great coffee without the app. I still think you'll love the Micra. The Rancilio Pro X is great but it isn't on the same level as the Micra.

Curious to know how a machine like the LM compares to any other machine with flow control (Bianca, Decent, Profitec Drive). Will flow control give you better extraction in the long run? Or does the saturated group and durability of the LM (along with prefusion options), standout enough? Thanks!
@Rydecoffeecoach8 ай бұрын
It's hard to compare. The flow/pressure profiling means you have more control over each shot which really expands the way you can get better extractions from fresh or old coffee, light roasts and such. But if the coffee is standard and has degassed, LM will be as good.

I don't care about price. I dont care about PID, programming, profiles. I care about the dose, time and grinding. What machine should I get?
@Rydecoffeecoach18 күн бұрын
I'm not sure exactly sure what you mean. Timing as in time to heat up? What do you want from the dose? There's no grinder on these machines and I would strongly recommend never buying a grinder built in. Much better to get a separate grinder. Do you want ease of use? Reliability? Speed to make coffee. Ability to grow advanced as your skills improve? Will this be a forever-ish machine or a stepping stone?
@georgk25518 күн бұрын

Regarding La Marzocco, I'm interested to see if or when they update the GS3. No doubt it produces brilliant espresso but its a bit outdated now. Products like the Sanremo You are of better value.

LM Linea is the most reliable machine in La Marzocco. In my case I make the slayer mod and prefer the look of the Mini with Slayer functionality in the paddle.
@Rydecoffeecoach8 ай бұрын
I definitely feel like they will do something with the gs3 or a model in between Mini and gs3. It feels like they want to broaden the range of home machines and the Micra is the 'entry' level. The You is a great machine too, I agree. 🙌

Would love a bit of advice guys. I want to upgrade from my Sage barista express. Think I want a dual boiler but only because they seem better on reviews. Home use, I make 2 flat whites every morning and a couple of black americanos as well on weekend. The odd time we have people over so maybe do 4 back to back flat whites. I can use a smart plug for early morning wake up to reduce wait time, but would like a machine with a quicker heat to time. Not as interested in the flow controls, temperature stability etc. I'm going to buy a good grinder and just want to get a decent shot and decent steam in the least amount of time. I've spend lots of time (too much) in rabbit holes looking at all sorts. Profitec 300 and 600 Ranchilio S X Lelit Elizabeth Lelit Bianca Etc etc I know they all have pros/cons. Would like someone just to say this would be best based on my use. Thanks in advance.
@Rydecoffeecoach6 ай бұрын
Is the choice just between those machines you listed? If so, I'm saying Profitec 600 or Lelit Bianca (although it has the flow controller). Rancilio Silvia Pro X is great too but I'm not in love with the overall chassis design compared to the e61s .
@anthonybreslin33866 ай бұрын
@Rydecoffeecoach thanks for getting back to me. I don't have a preference really so would use others. Just want something user friendly so that when I've dialled the grind/shot, I can basically switch on, press a button for the shot and then steam milk quickly. I can use a smart plug for mornings and to heat up faster. Would like to get a machine for £2k or less. Ideally 2k for machine and grinder (looked at the Eureka mignon digital ones).
@anthonybreslin33866 ай бұрын
Forgot to add, I'm not ruling out a Heat exchanger. I just thought DB are the better option. Don't know enough about them both.
@Rydecoffeecoach6 ай бұрын
Yeh ok. You're definitely going to have to get a timer because HX and dual boilers will usually take 15-25 minutes to warm up. But once they are up they are very quick to make coffees. The other question is what aesthetic style do you like? Do you like the steampunk designs of the e61 machines (Profitec 600 & Lelit Bianca) or do you prefer the boxed in group heads like the Rancilio Silvia? I just helped someone buy an ECM Mechanika and they are the Mercedes line from a sister company who makes Profitec. All of these machines will be nice and consistent and much better than the Sage Express. Your grinder is going to be more important if you want full consistency. Get a Eureka Mignon Magnifico or similar and you'll be set.

I think the Micra would have been a solid 9.5/10 if it had another inch between the drip tray and portafilter. That was a strange design decision. It should have been a single boiler, and just for espresso drinkers. They could have cut another $200 off the price.

Best Machine is La Marzocco Linea Mini... easy choice. I had ECM E61 with all the options and honestly LMLM produce best cup of coffee. Why, have best temperature stability (commercial boliers) and construction quality is top of the top.
@fgarced8 ай бұрын
No way Gaggia Classic can produce better espresso than Espresso machine with high precise temperature stability (Sanremo, La Marzocco, Slayer). The Espresso shots is the way that you can control the multiples variables like: water, time, fresh coffee beans, quality grinder, heat (200F in Medium roast) and others. Decent is a espresso machine that use thermal block to heating on demand vs traditional boiler that still having better stability with precise PIV. I had E61 ECM with all the upgrades and believe me La Marzocco produce the same coffee quality as Hi End Coffee Shops that follow all the standards. La Marzocco Linea Mini the Brew boiler literally is on the top of the portafilter, not heat loss when reach to the coffee puck, this is the temperature stability that I mention.

@@Rydecoffeecoach amazing! Thank you for responding ! I care about temperature stability the most but the thing is, I'm mostly torn between an HX machine and a DB one. My day to day is a double shot when I wake, and a double shot when I leave the house for work. Sometimes we have an extra 2 people over and I will make them double shots as well. I just want a machine I can rely on and not have to be worried about temperature. Also I don't use the steamer but like once or twice a month for my wife. Most days, it's just me making 2 double shots about an hour apart from each other. I originally wanted a black machine but I think the classic stainless steel is growing on me. I also care about build and quality. From my research and the companies I like, it seems I am mostly torn between the Rocket Espresso Mozzafiato R, or the R58. I don't care for Lelit, and I want it to be made in Italy with some Italian flare to it. I guess ultimately, I am worried about the reliability of the HX vs the DB when making drinks. Also, I think in about 3-5 years I want to roast my own coffee and I'm not sure how much control I will need to be optimal with flavor, etc. I'll answer any more questions you have! And thanks again!
