Hey Paul here is a suggestion that will give you back a little space around the air compressor when you re-install it. Loose the air filter on the compressor and run a hose from the compressor intake to the intake on the engine just below the engine air filter. That way 1 filter does both jobs for you. SIDE NOTE: that is exactly how the compressors on heavy trucks are set up, so it will work for you too.

Paul, you just might want to watch PROJECT FARM's youtube channel when he did a test of filters. It may explain why you had so much dirt in your air intake! K&N was not very good at keeping particles out. It flows better, but allows a lot more particles thru.
@JimYeats
@JimYeats 2 жыл бұрын
But if you use a K&N filter you can then put a K&N sticker on your vehicle, which in turn gives you 10 added horsies.

@@JimYeats I shudder to think of the damage I was doing to my bikes back in the 70's. Although I used the oil to coat the filters and cleaned them often. I had to pull the head on my Kawasaki Z1 due to a broken exhaust stud and the cylinders still had the cross hatching at 22K miles and I rode that bike HARD, so I thought back then that they were great filters. Maybe all that cleaning and oiling were beneficial. All I use today are paper pleated ones.

Just an idea, how about making a shield under that air sucker? It can even work in conjunction with a louvered hood. Maybe a sheet metal box that surrounds it and is open on top to mate to the hood with the louvers when its closed. A couple simple brackets to secure it in place This will get rid of the hot air coming up from the header and allow the louvers to fill the box with cooler air, which equals more power and a happier 408!! Anyway, great job on the engine selection, the Trickflow heads are wicked nice and teamed up with that Holley system is gonna have loads of ponies and be great on the rocks. Thanks for the great entertainment! ✌

I use it under my vehicles to catch fluids and I also use it in the back seat on the floor of my F150 so I don’t mess up the carpeting when transporting anything that would leak. Go to Home Depot and get yourself a washing machine drip pan and save on cleanup time. The kids will love you for it!

You really need an oiled foam filter or at least an oiled foam pre filter for your engine in dusty conditions. Filters like k&n are horrible for dusty conditions at least in my experience and the oil is really important even on your standard k&n, if they aren't oiled they won't catch dust. Edit: I figured I'd add a little bit, what I use on my dirt bikes is no toil filter oil and cleaner those get serviced then oiled for every ride. On jeeps and stuff that may not get serviced every use I use maxima air filter oil and their solvent cleaner. I use uni foam filters with a pre filter sock on the jeep in dusty stuff then a standard k&n style with a pre filter sock in non dusty conditions.

Not a fan of the whole "torque to yield" concept. I was working on my Neon ACR, replacing the water pump, and head gasket (oil leak). Got the new head bolts (torque to yield) and ended up snapping a head bolt (new bolt). I was able to get the broken piece out without removing all of new head bolts. I ended up re-using one of the old bolt. I calculated an actual torque number and used that number. Never had a problem with that motor until I ran it out of oil ten years later. Totally my fault. God bless and stay well.

Hey Paul, don’t feel bad. You are not alone. My car needs a new computer as well. It’s already been 3 weeks waiting on the part. Nice job on the new motor. Sounds sweet! Really looking forward to seeing it out on the trails.

All the work and thought you put into the FJ. There's got to be a spot where you can put that air filter that's not right above the Hedders. Or where it's going to suck the most amount of dirty air. In its current location it is getting the worst possible air. There is got to be a spot where the air filter can get some cooler cleaner air. You could almost put it anywhere. My personal suggestion. I love the f j and it's an awesome build. Put some thought into that are cleaner find yourself some cool clean air. You can put it anywhere.✌❤🙂

With the lack of space a snorkel becomes a good option. It's not just for water crossing. Cleaner air up there as well. Not a KN fan, like Paul found out, when you find the intake getting dusted the motor is as well.

@@offroad6309 that's correct. He took the air intake off dump the dirt out. This new engine going to do the same thing if it doesn't find some clean air. In a month or two we will be hearing this engine got a dead cylinder valve seats and rings wore out.

Took a break from work to watch this. Now I'm logged out, laptop closed, heading for the garage. Thanks for the motivation to ignore work and go play.
Well.......This Really Sucks!
