I believe in the "mad dog theory" of the death penalty. A person so evil and violent that they are a severe hazard to their jailers or of they ever escape they will be absolute mayhem until they are killed would get the death penalty. Otherwise I prefer restitution or jail sentences where they do state work like cleaning along side roads, etc. Three hots and a cot are too much of a reward to many repeat offenders.
@thomashogan91964 жыл бұрын
In the US the Death Penalty offenses once included grand theft and rape, but is now limited to 1st degree (premeditated) murder, usually with some special circumstances like extreme cruelty or murder for hire and it only is used in some States. It also depends on the leadership. Gov. Newsom of California commuted all death penalty cases, even though California reaffirmed the Death penalty in a referendum in 2016. Included in the commutations was "The Tool Box Killer" who got his name as a serial killer who tortured teenage girls to death using hammers, pliers and screw drivers. Under Federal law, Obama was not pursuing executions, but Trump's Dept. of Justice is. However, since a prisoner, once given a death sentence is guaranteed to be heard at every appellate level including the US Supreme Court, a prisoner on Death Row is more likely to die of extreme old age than of lethal injection (unless it is for compassionate euthanasia). My understanding of the Death Penalty in China is that it is carried out within days or weeks, a few months at most, and any appeal to a higher authority is unlikely.

Lion with a knife? Must be Sri Lanka. As for the death penalty, even though I'm a Catholic & the pope has come out firmly against capital punishment, I still believe that it should exist as a punishment for the most heinous crimes (obviously, none of the political crimes that China punishes). I think that some crimes like serial rape & murder are so unspeakable that to let the criminal go on living even in prison would be a slap in the face to victims' families & an injustice to society as a whole. But I agree, the death penalty can assuredly be unjust & exploited by a corrupt & oppressive government to murder innocent people & stifle dissent, which I, of course, absolutely detest. It's a complicated issue.

Great video, guys. Interesting thing to note is that in many ways the absence of death penalty in the east European countries, like Ukraine and Russia - where from time to time support for capital punishment exceeded the opposition - might be attributed to such requirement for the membership in the Council of Europe (Belarus for example is not a council member, because it exercise capital punishment yearly). Also, can I ask do you plan doing videos on the Chinese institutional parties? Obviously these are puppets of the CCP and they are used to make the political system look democratic, but still it's interesting are there any other reasons why the communists allowed other parties to participate in their system. I believe in the death penalty for let's say, a guy who unrepentantly rips the heads off toddlers as a hobby. Letting someone like that walk free is far more evil than killing them, and keeping them locked up at taxpayer expense is an insult to law-abiding people everywhere. People should suffer as their victims did. It isn't about right and wrong, it's about sending a message so that people don't think they can just do whatever awful thing they want and get free room and board. Granted, I don't trust China or most governments to only execute those kinds of people. But I am someone who had a friend raped and murdered by a guy who also tried to kill me because I didn't let him bully me. Hell, he couldn't even stop committing crimes when he was trying to escape to Canada, he got arrested in Canada for breaking into several homes and robbing people. He has no remorse, and thanks to Canada putting pressure on the US NOT to give him the death penalty, he'll be getting out of jail soon, if he isn't out already. @@landdavid3980 Thank You Sir for your Reply. I have to agree that the Death Penalty has shown a Great Deal of Respect for Punishment. In some Countries, I'm from Canada, it almost seems the Criminals have More Rights than the Victims. Yet, sometimes I think, as an example, that a Rapist should lose his "Manhood", if you Abuse It then you Lose it. Thieves, should lose a Small Finger as a Reminder. The public would also see missing finger & understand why. Sure, the person would have "9 more opportunities", but after the other Small Finger on the Other Hand, that THAT would Finally make the person Stop & think Twice (counting the missing fingers), should they have Stolen a second time caught. A Life for a Life, the Severest of Punishment. Drug Dealers, haven't figured out that one yet. However, They Are indeed making a User's Life a Living Hell & losing everything of value. So, maybe a Drug User needs to Pay for the Rehabilitation of the User(s)????, not the Public Tax payer (??). So, in essence, this punishment would be a Financial Impact to the Drug Dealers (??). Guys, I have to disappoint you - the death penalty does _not_ deter criminals, a high probability of getting caught does. So if you get 20 years for murder, but a 100% certainty that you _will_ get those 20 years … you wouldn't kill anybody. If the penalty is death, but the chance for you to get away with it is even only 30%, you'd probably do it. So, contrary to “public opinion”, harsh sentences don't do anything, working law enforcement and judicial systems do. The system employed in most European countries is quite rational.

There is one weird law in China, originally meant to tackle opium dens: If you own or rent the place where OTHERS consume drugs in, you are seriously punished. Not the death penalty, but it will get you several years in prison. And this is quite strictly enforced. So if friends smoke THEIR OWN weed in your hotel room: Boy, you can be in deeeep trouble! And because you never expect that to be illegal you will have admitted everything before you ever see a lawyer.

Serious question! Please answer! What is the legality status of Kratom? The drug that many Malaysians and Thai chew in leaf form.

I think the death penalty is fine -- with a higher standard of proof, sort of like "beyond an UNreasonable doubt." An example: Major Hassan who killed the soldiers at Fort Hood -- death penalty.

Of course, but since China's government is notorious for even covering things up among each other to hide blame both internationally and to cover themselves from their superiors, you can never be sure if a crime was actually real or not

A Scottish Father and son snuggles drugs from Pakistan to China via the train from Tibet to Shanghai. This was about 15-20 years ago now but the British Embassy did help. The son got deported and the father got 15 years instead of execution. And he only served 12 then got deported. Edit: I don’t believe in Capital Punishment at all.

As far as the death penalty goes, I think that life in prison without the possibility of parole is a much worse option for the convicted. Once someone's dead, they're essentially free. But every day they are locked up at night they are reminded that _that_ is their fate, til the very end. Til they expire. I mean, just look at the numbers who commit suicide after being given a whole life sentence. No. Death sentence is easy. Life without parole is a real, proper punishment that lasts, literally, a lifetime. I also think the death penalty is more about vengeance for a lot of people, than a deterrent. In fact it's been proven that the death penalty is not much of a deterrent when you compare homicide rates side by side of countries that do and do not have capital punishment. >

Technically cowardice in battle can get you the death penalty in a lot of western countries, they're just way less likely to actually do it.

“Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behaviour and information processing. They open you up to the possibility that everything you know is wrong.” ― Terence McKenna

I think, there might be one tiny bit of chance to avoid criminal prosecution and death penalty: Don't break the f**king law!! That goes for any country you visit or reside in.
