If possible, go out in the nature, see some greenery. My father passed away last year at a not-so-old age of 70 and I had a hard time because I always thought we had more time. Then when things would get really heavy, I would take out my scooter and just ride 100-200km out with really no destination. Just ride through the rural area, see some greenery, see some people living simple lives. And I would return home with more energy to face the world for some more days.

My husband and I started watching your channel when we started planning our trip out to Colorado and Utah (from New Jersey). My husband has been riding motorcycles and dual sports for 12 years, but I never had before. With only months to go before our trip I made the decision to buy a bike and learn to ride so I can experience Colorado and Utah in the best possible way. Your videos gave me so much hope and inspiration! They made me feel like I could do it; go from never riding before in my life to riding trails that some people never get the chance to. All in about 5 months! And now I’m happy to say that we’re half way through our trip and I’ve just completed the Alpine Loop and many other trails that I never imagined I’d be able to! And it only makes it more amazing that your Colorado/Utah videos happened to come out around the same time as we’re here! My grandfather was the sheriff of Silverton in the latter 40's when it had three mines and three brothels going. And my great-grandfather built the last section of the road from Durango which is where I was born. Awesome Mexican restaurant. Bless Ya!

Overheating red light is a known problem of the CRF300's at high altitude terrains. Next time it happens, turn engine off immediately, then turn ignition on without starting the engine and listen for the fan working. 1. If the fan is working, turn the switch off and let the bike cool down for 15 to 20 minutes. Then re-start the engine and the overheating light should not come back on again. You are good to go. 2. If the fan was not working. Do not re-start the engine anymore. Call a towing truck. Do not keep riding with the overheating light on. High risk of engine damage. Just my two cents... Keep on riding Noraly

An engine getting hot at altitude is not an issue. It's normal. We're just used to oversized coolant systems and the crf has a small engine that is, in this case, already working hard during most of the time. Here looks liek a long climb at "very" high altitudes on rough terrain and she was having to ride in first gear (high engine speed, low airflow). Nothing out of normal for it to overheat. Most vehicles will end up having an issue working in first gear, loaded, for a ong time. But you are right, stop, let it cool down.

13:40 no red light, 14:11 red light. While it's fuel injected, would still check the air filter (esp on carbs), and radiator overflow catch. With out fan assistance, the radiator needs air flow of 20+mph to function properly. Gearing down to 1st, high strain on engine, and reduced speed/air flow, is a trifecta for a hot engine. Never put snow on a hot engine, may cause cracks in metal due to thermal stresses. Consider the water-less coolant, promoted by Jay Leno, it has a better heat transfer coefficient.

Red light is an engine overheating warning light. First gear, high revs, on a hill, over rocks means the engine is working hard with little airflow to cool it. Add in thin air which makes the motor run rich and you have a recipe for one hot engine. At lower altitudes, you wouldn't likely have had an overheating issue though you'll always want to keep an eye on temps when running high revs in first or second gear for long periods of time.

@@maesc2001 That is true, one could also argue that the ambient air temperature is colder the higher you go which is a denser charge. Better for heat exchange, etc. there are a lot more factors but in the end the light was on. 🤷‍♂️

This bike is fuel injected, so the computer will compensate for the altitude. Agree with the thin air cooling though.

Red light, engine overheating. Pull over and figure out why. Fan not working, coolant loss, coolant froze (if not enough antifreeze), etc. Don't keep riding or it's possible to cost an engine and really leave you stranded.

Noraly, the red lights was for too high temperature of your engine, cause you rush engine in first gear long time to uphill! Be careful with that next time, it can brake your engine. Check the coolant level, hear the fan, if it is not started next time, you have to stop your engine to avoid a damage! Wait until the temp will go down, or you may use the snow to cool your radiator (not the engine block!) It is fine for serious mountain conditions, but do not ignore any red lights from your dashboard :) have a save trip!

Yup, had the rally 300 engine get hot in peak summer offroading in france. Just park the bike, turn off engine and leave the contact on. Radiator fan will keep cooling. Enjoy the scenery (or boil a kettle for a cup of coffee like we did. ;-) ) . Toedels!

altitude = lean mixture. running lean at low speed = overheat. Restarting the bike on some model, remaps the jetting fuel map. stopping the engine when you see that kind of light should always be your first and only reflex

That show was a real disappointment. I agree that Noraly produces better video than ANY of their productions including Long Way Round. But Up was terrible. They skipped hundreds and hundreds of miles, they cheated VERY badly on their goal of doing it on electric (seems like they only did maybe a few hundred miles of the route on electric) and heck they covered what seems like a thousand miles riding in a bus. Noraly showed us more of south and central America in a week's episodes than they did that whole production, the videography is better, the interactions with people is better, and things don't seem as rushed. Long Way seems to manufacture problems, which I guess is what reality shows do really.

There is nothing more refreshing than listening to someone speak so eloquently...without dropping 'f-bombs' every 5th word. The beauty in this, is a wider audience...since it can be shared confidently with children. There's an educational quality in all her videos, that children would benefit seeing. In the 90’s I had a boss that took me through all those old ghost towns, Ouray, Silverton, etc in a small stock Ford Ranger truck. Some of those two tracks were beyond scary. Most incredible views I have ever seen! Felt like we exploring another planet.

Red light is coolant temperature, just means that it got the coolant pretty hot with redlining the bike up the pass. As long as it returns to normal temperature at normal RPM it's not an issue.

Noraly, better check the coolant level and top it up if needed. If it is more or less ok, it could be a wise thing to check if the fan starts going when the engine is hot.

Flower boxes that prevent cars from using that space to turn left . The street is very wide so pedestrians need a halfway point that’s protected from tourists not paying attention. It’s very pretty there so people are always looking in other directions .

Got flashbacks to my ride a week ago. I was travelling a mountain pass in the west of Norway, and my battery died. No cell phone signal, not really clothed for 10°C weather, rain and riding alone. Luckily a helpful guy stopped, called for a tow truck and actually came back to tell me they were on their way. It was amazing to see the tow truck to 3 point turns down the mountain, though, and they luckily had a battery that fit and quickly had me on my way. Things usually work out, although not always as planned 😅

I always like to see travelers remind people that there isn't always regular cell phone service everywhere in the US. A lot of the cell phones companies try to convince people 99% of the US has coverage, which isn't close to being true.

Now that you're going to be in areas I've ridden in lots, I have to warn you to beware of deer. Don't ride within an hour of dawn or dusk (or at night, not that you do). The deer are most active in these hours, and they either freeze or run towards you. It's terrifying and can be lethal. I know it sounds crazy, but just trust me lol. Keep an eye out on the sides of roads for them, too.

guy from Colorado here, the weather is strong, it comes hard and goes hard too, so yeah it may rain/snow at some point and probably end after 1 hour its sunny... recommend being aware of weather, and if it gets bad, stop for 1/2 hours, and then keep going

So many things I admire about Itchy Boots. Her sense of adventure, courage, valor, determination and more. One thing I wish she has with her is a Sat Phone. For those remote places where she dares to cross and explore which happen to be inhabitable and so remote. In case of a true emergency, I have seen her deal with adversity with determination and resolve. But one never knows when she'll need help and she'll need communication if she ever needs outside help.

Hallo Itchy Boots, my parents and I moved from The Netherlands in 1960 to California Long Beach area when I was 6. We went back and forth for family and work, moved back 3 times each time only 2 years and got Itchy Boots each time for California. Lived in different area of the US due to aerospace work etc. But just loved California Long Beach, Seal Beach area. We ran across your KZbin channel and have been following you every new video since. For a Dutch gal to drive alone, we are scared for you when your in the mountains to close to the edges. Slow down a hair if the road is that bad. We have been riding big tour bikes throughout the States. We got the sidecar interest going again around 1974. My parents also took their Rialta motorhome from Long Beach California to the City of the North Pole in Alaska. They also did Canada, Florida and Nova Scotia and other trips throughout. But Alaska that was one hell of a trip but a lot of big RV'S did not make it over the bad roads but my parents my dad driving got the rig up there in one peace. Some headlight and windshield damage but she held it together. This was around 1987. Most people don't get to see America like you are seeing it. I almost believe you will move here also. The Netherlands will be to small for you after traveling here. I miss certain things from there like the snackbar but that's about it. So be careful you have a ways to go and take it easy near those edges. All us KZbinrs are glued to your fun and great action full video's. The quality of your video's is also 👌. Watchout for all the fires burning. Not much water to put them out 🙃. Many of the old mining towns are very quaint and scenic. You definitely picked good paths through the mountains to ride. Higher elevations are likely to have more snow. Anxiously anticipating your next video to see how you navigate the snow covered roads. Hoping it all works out for the best.

In the '80's I used to live in Aspen (backpacking Aussie) and we often went to Telluride to get away from the glitz and glamour of Aspen. Apparently the glitz and glamour moved to Telluride and has become what it is today. We did a lot of 4wding on Black bear pass. Telluride also used to have an annual hang gliding competition that I went to. And last fun fact: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid robbed a bank in Telluride. The Rocky mountains are incredible scenic and the stars at night were amazing! Enjoy.

This might be my favorite episode thus far. I could also be a bit jaded since I love riding in Colorado so much (I live in GA). I've never done the unpaved passes so getting to see you go across them is something new for me. Noraly, I wish I was as fearless as you are. Had I seen that red light come on the dash as I approached the pass, I'd probably be staring at it more than the road. I can't wait for the next episode!!

I am glad you got to go through Utah and Colorado they are some of the more beautiful places in the US. But there are many many more because the US is so big. The Serra Nevada mountains are also very amazing. Be safe and have your bikes coolant and fans check to make sure every thing is working correctly.

My grandmother used to teach in a one room schoolhouse in Telluride. It has gotten much bigger since the last time I was there, as they now have events year round and it is very popular with vacationers. Most memorable of my trips was taking a jeep tour over Pearl Pass from Aspen to Telluride and breaking down just above the town, the tour company had to fly us back from Telluride to Aspen and the scenery was breathtaking each way. Safe travels and watch out for the deer.

We rode the Durango to Silverton RR on May 25, and the snow in the mountains looked much as in this video. We drove from Limon (eastern) CO to Durango on the 24th & went through a snowstorm going through La Veta & Wolf Creek Passes. I'm looking forward to seeing your next video to see how you made it through Corkscrew Pass. Gorgeous scenery in that area! Safe riding & happy adventures!

"There's enough other people out there that you won't be stranded". That's debatable. And being stranded out there could be life threatening. In the late afternoon probably not anyone out there with night coming and with it freezing temps. That's same jacket she was wearing in tropical Mexico............You really need to plan on being self sufficient in these situations and not rely on someone bailing you out. I hope she has a plan B, and a plan C.
