Bonnie Tyler is a Welsh singer who is known for her distinctive husky voice. "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" is her biggest hit in 1983. She had other hits such as "It's A Heartache", "Lost In France", "More Than A Lover", "Holding Out For A Hero", "Bitterblue" etc.

This song was an absolute monster. It was number one in so many countries simultaneously including the US.

STAN, My favorite Reactor: Bonnie Tyler has such a distinctive voice; but a voice that can draw you in, like a flower invites the bees, to taste the nectar.

Well since no one has mentioned it yet, I'll throw it out there, the song is actually about vampires in love. Now that you know, give it another listen and or pull up the lyrics, the song takes on a whole new meaning.

Bonnie's distinctive rasp is actually coincidence of vocal damage..m She is very strong person. She actually sound very different live now, kind of more like metal voice type and that's actually great because it swings studio versions of her songs to different and interesting places

Bonnie Tyler and Meat Loaf's careers were largely made by songwriter Jim Steinman. Meat was always jealous that Bonnie got this song instead of him. It would be hard to hear a bad song by Bonnie, her insanely good voice makes any song jaw-dropping. Sample these: Lost in France, It's a Heartache, Wild Love, Sometimes When We Touch, Have You Ever Seen the Rain?, Faster Than The Speed of Night, Ravishing, Loving You's A Dirty Job But Somebody's Got To Do It, Rebel Without A Clue, Before This Night is Through, Streets of Little Italy, Save Up All Your Tears, Bitterblue, Before We Get Any Closer, Making Love (Out of Nothing at All), Given It All, Bridge Over Troubled Water, It's Over, It's In The Back of My Mind, Wings, I Won't Look Back, Little Superstar, All I Ever Wanted, You Try, When the Lights Go Down, Tire Tracks and Broken Hearts, Vergiss Es, and Holding Out for A Hero. Yup, that's the greatest mix tape ever right there!!

This song was written by Jim Steinman who wrote all of the songs on Meatloaf's debut album. He also wrote her song Looking for a Hero. He also wrote Air Supply's Making Love out of Nothing at All. I love this song.

You're so perceptive: Tyler sang in same exact 6-yr pocket (late '78-'83) that Meatloaf starred in. U r 1 of the realest reviewers. Thank u.

The video is a dream sequence, but the song written by Jim Steinman (who is Meatloaf’s longtime collaborator) was in the point of view of a person who recently became a vampire. This is corroborated in many print interviews with Jim Steinman. Also, Jim said he wrote this song with Bonnie Tyler in mind, and he always meant for Bonnie to sing it, which proved Meatloaf was incorrect in his story about he was supposed to record the song.

The reason you're getting that Meatloaf vibe is because Jim Stainman, who wrote a lot of Meatloafs stuff wrote this song, and finished it for Bonnie Tyler. I don't know if he did any production work involved with the video, but I know one of his guys did the "Turn around, bright eyes" background vocals.

If you liked that, you should listen to the full 7 minute version of the song. That version is missing a few lyrics. Granted Jim Stainman wrote a lot of epics and could pick the best person to sing it, normally Meatloaf, but Bonnie Tyler got this one and Celene Dion got "It's All Coming Back to Me Now"

Song Suggestions: Faster Than the Speed of Night, Have you ever Seen the Rain, Holding Out for a Hero. Those 3 are good, not her more popular songs outside of Holding out for a Hero though, which was in Footloose and a few other movies.

Amazing video as always my awesome friend! You are so talented Life With Stan! Keep up the amazing work! And I'm not going to regret saying this but I prefer the Glee version of this song a lot more than the original because it is so much better than Bonnie Tyler's! Any Glee fan would agree!

Well done Stan yup it's another hit of the genius writer and producer Jim Steinman it was absolutely huge when it came out... And the male voice you hear in the song?? Is ... Jim Steinman himself.. rip jim... Her first big hit was lost in France.... My favourite of Bonnie's tho is making love out of nothing at all... And her duet with Todd rundgren loving yous a dirty job (but somebody's gotta do it) Love bonnie and love Jim

Incorrect, the vocalist accompanying Bonnie is Rory Dodd. Jim did do the original demo with her though I believe.

Liked your enthusiastic reaction to this 80s masterpiece and video. As others have said, Jim Steinman was the man behind the song. He was known for his dramatic epic music by Bonnie Tyler and Meat Loaf. He was also behind another dramatic masterpiece from that era taken from the movie Streets of Fire, a song called "Tonight Is What It Means To Be Young". If you never heard (of) it, it is well worth listening to, it's awesome -> kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZjEeZxtft-cfqs

Good reaction. I've seen a lot of great songs ruined by weird videos and this was one of them. But no matter how cheesy the video, you can't take away from Bonnie Tyler's vocal. It was awesome, in spite of the video. JMO

I love this song. With that being said, what in the hell did that video mean??? Didn't make sense to me.

The video is typical '80s bonkers, and shouldn't be taken literally, more an interpretation of her emotions. This is actually a shortened version of the song, there is a second verse but the full performance was too long for radio play-time so had to be cut down.
