This is pretty disingenuous in the fact that he doesn't mention the genealogies in Matthew chapter one and Luke chapter 3. Obviously Jesus chose every word carefully. He describes himself as "Son of God" 76 times and "Son of Man" (not "son of A man"!) 80 times. They mean different things, quite clearly. And do not forget that a major part of the Good News is that WE can become children of God by being "born again/born of the Spirit/born of God" (John 1:12-13 & 3:5-10). That's why Jesus is called the "first fruits" several times, the "forerunner" (Hebrews 6:20) and our "brother" (Hebrews 2:11) whereas God is ALWAYS referred to as "father". It concerns me greatly that the warnings repeated 3 times in the following passages below are routinely ignored or else read completely wrongly. He says the antichrist spirit denies that JESUS came in the flesh (flesh = SARX in Greek: very much worth a word study in its own). Please, everyone. Read Scripture (especially the New Testament) for yourself anstop relying on men and outsourcing your understanding to them. In John 14:26 & 16:13, Jesus says that the Holy Spirit will be our teacher and guide and unless you are living in unrepentant sin, he WILL BE! "Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world" (1st John 4:2-3) "For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist" (2 John v.7)

There is a reason why Jesus always said 'son of man' in the 3rd person as in THE 'son of man'... because the son of man is not a person as much as it is a thing, a 'spiritual door' that is the gateway to a relationship with the Father - a door that can only br opened by faith, and open and shut ONLY by each person themselves - each posseing those keys... and what they open no one can shut and what they shut no one can open. Son man is NOT always a complimentary term... see Numbers 23:19. For an example of the spirit opening the door - see Ezekiel 2... it is the spirit that enters him and sets him on his feet, that he could hear the Lord speaking.

Dr. Habermas, great answer! The reason they continually sought to stone, and kill Jesus, and finally crucified Him, was His claiming to be the Son of God, God come in the flesh. And, Son of Man was exactly that in scripture. And they knew the scriptures speaking of the Son of Man was not speaking of only a human man, but the Messiah, in Daniel 7. Good word, brother!

But how does the OT scriptural usage of "Son of man" ( e.g. Ezekiel, Isaiah, Daniel), square with Jesus' usage of the term regarding himself?
@dbruh9362 жыл бұрын
When Christ calls himself the Son of Man in Mark 14, he is making direct reference to Daniel 7, in which Daniel sees "one like the Son of Man, coming on the clouds of heaven) to whom is given an everlasting kingdom and authority. The Jews of the second temple understood this figure to be divine, so that specific usage of Son of Man is VERY different than when it's used of mere prophets. Not to mention that the same chapter heavily implies that this Son of Man will sit down on a throne next to the Ancient of Days.

We should remind ourselves that the word MAN in Hebrew is Adam. Ben Adam = son of man. So when we read "son of man" remember that it is Son of Adam. So who is Adam? Adam was a being, distinct from all other animals because he (they) was made in the image and likeness of God, so he is like God, but clearly not God himself. Acts 17:31 “Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.” Jesus, the faithful witness, states in the scriptures -that he is a man: “but now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did.” John 8:40 He also said: “Jesus said, "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Consider what the apostle Peter states in Acts 2. “Men of Israel, listen to this message: Jesus of Nazareth was a man certified by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs, which God did among you through Him, as you yourselves know. He was delivered up by God’s set plan and foreknowledge, and you, by the hands of the lawless, put Him to death by nailing Him to the cross. But God raised Him from the dead, releasing Him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for Him to be held in its clutches. God has raised this Jesus to life, to which we are all witnesses. Exalted then, to the right hand of God, He has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear.” God is immortal and cannot die. Note: This teaching and understanding are not of this church. The designation, "son of man" (Numbers 23:19), is a designation filled with peril. Every man potentially participates as a "son of man." We participate as a "son of man" when we take up the role of father to our children. It is then we impress on the world through our children the beliefs, teachings, and commandments by which they are to live and possibly have life. David prevailed as a son of man to his son Solomon (Proverbs 4:3-4). Every minister participates as a "son of man" when they impress on their congregations, whether synagogues, mosques, or churches what they envision as the beliefs, teachings and commandments by which they are to live. But whether the spirits we impress on our respective "congregations" attend to them having life? It is a different matter altogether. What's so perilous about this designation, "son of man" is that it serves as a spiritual "weigh station." It's a "spiritual weigh station" in that, the LORD weighs what we teach as fathers and ministers to our respective "congregations" as to whether what we've taught is of Him. If we teach what is of the LORD, then we deliver our respective congregations to the LORD. And thereby we ascend in the earth as a "son of God." However, if what we teach is in opposition to the LORD. Then we descend in the earth and in the eyes of the LORD as a Son of Belial (1Samuel 2:12). Jesus uses the designation (Matthew 16:13) to impress on his disciples that they too emerge as sons of man when they live out the cause for which He calls them. Within the KJV, the author appropriately capitalizes the designation (Matthew 16:13 KJV). Given the beliefs, teachings, and commandments Jesus impresses on his disciples are revelations that expound on the truths of Moses, the scribes, and the prophets. Be mindful, however. This bears no relationship to what you receive from this church as doctrine, orthodoxy, or any teaching taught by the church fathers.

The Son of Man is also a messianic title or claim. The figure in Daniel to whom all authority is given is the messiah. But this figure appears before the person of God and is given the authority to accomplish the will of YHWH. He is NOT YHWH. He is not God. Rather, he is the anointed of God. Being a divine figure in the Second temple period is not the same as being God.

The Son of man is who we think we are as bodies. "That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." We are here on earth to see our way past that to Sons of God. Jesus is the Wayshower. He is with us always for us to make the transition. We do so in our minds, transforming the carnal mind into the Christ mind. It is done so through metanoia, which Jesus focused his ministry upon, forgiveness and repentance.

You didn't get any of that from the context of scripture. That is a metaphysical cult's misrepresentation of the Biblical context of scripture and Who Jesus is. Nowhere does the Bible teach such. Jesus did not come to show us a way, but to Himself be The Way. Jesus said of Himself: "I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father except by Me." John 14:6. "This is the record; that God has given to us eternal life and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; and he that has NOT the Son of God HAS NOT LIFE." 1 John 5:11-12. So by shedding His sinless blood on the cross, taking your punishment for sin, satisfying the wrath of God for your sin, and defeating sin, satan, death, hell & the grave for you....that by repenting of sin and receiving Him alone, you may have forgiveness of sin and Life Eternal! You defeat those things which have you defeated by receiving Him Who defeated them for you! In your place! This is the GOOD NEWS, the Gospel! Jesus is your only hope. He alone is Saviour. That is why they crucified Him. So, read the Bible in context. It has no secret underlying meanings, it plainly says who Jesus said He is and what He came to do. Lord bless you as you do, and I pray you will call on Him to save. "Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Romans 10:13.
