I only recently got into the Doors after being a Beatles-fan for a long time. They immediately reminded me of the Beatles, only way darker and with some long instrumental passages. But both bands share a certain magic that it hard to put into words.

Yes, The Doors are very genuine to their own style and although they belong in the rock genre I can never put a label to the type of music they played. Don’t want to. The Stones took inspiration from The Beatles during a few stages of their career. But they did not copy them. The Beatles made nothing that sounds like Exile on Main Street, they made nothing that sounds like jumping jack flash or gimme shelter. Mick inducted the beatles into the hall, and has continuously given them credit. Stop it.

I agree with Morrison, although I think the Beatles music got heavier and psychedelic at times as the band grew, but I can see why he would describe the earlier albums as raw and especially authentic because they stuck to their rock n’ roll roots. Their heaviest songs did come later, though.

These three were actually risk takers and broke ground in their occupations to create works that would last through multiple generations. Drugs were part of the scene. It was mostly naivety in trusting those around them for what they were getting more than long bouts of abuse. As a former addict, had I been travelling the globe trying to get a straight dose regardless of where I copped I'd have died too, and quick. Sometimes it's a bit of fate too. I should have been dead twice, but it wasn't my time apparently. I didn't want to risk a third time. That's been 21.75 years ago today.

Interesting that he saw the first couple albums as being the raw and honest side of them when they were the most manufactured albums they made. It wasn't until about Rubber Soul that they really broke that mold and embraced a more raw and experimental side of themselves, the stuff before that was really just pop music. They lost quite a few fans by changing up their sound in the later albums because they matured as musicians and artists faster than their audience matured.

Didn’t John get like a dozen copies of the doors first album? They said he played it over and over. Maybe the end gave them some ideas for psychedelia…

When the doors debut came out in January 67 Paul McCartney bought up about 100 copy's and handed them out to all of his friends.

I'm curious about the source of this information because I've read many books about Jim and the Doors, and I've never seen a single statement about the Beatles.

The photo of Paul McCartney with the Doors debut LP is phony, a forgery. Paul looks like he did during the Revolver recording sessions in 1966 and the Doors album was released one year later.

Jimmy was a rocker boy, it's understandable he wouldn't like Revolver and Sgt Pepper, he just wants to go out and have a good time

CRP - please dig up what Keith Moon thought of RUSH and Neil Peart! I asked this of "an expert" last year (biographer)... I'm guessing Keith didn't listen to them... just saw the album covers and said "Nope."

And he did all that whilst being off his nut on drugs and alcohol. Your talking about a growth and level of maturity in music knowledge that sadly isn't true. Jim died at 27 years old. Ponder that for a second. A kid really.
